Hardcore Gamer: eBay has today confirmed to us some troubling numbers.
That just pisses me off.
I saw this yesterday. Just for the hell of it I looked on eBay and there were like 400+ for sale. All of them around $1500 - $2200. There's no way I'd pay that much. I hope all these people get stuck with them. You have people out there complaining about the price of consoles as it is and not wanting to pay MSRP, then these people selling them for 5 times the price. It's not justified IMO just because it's a single seller instead of a huge company. Rare or not, it's too bad there's no way to control this (other than not buy and make them sit on their purchase). I would've loved to get one of these at MSRP but I don't have the money right now. Nor do I want to take out a loan for one of these inflated ones either
They'd get more for them if they sat on them for another few years. I imagine these will sell for around $4-5K by the end of the generation. Collector's like this sort of limited stuff, and this one is truly limited and a special edition that commemorates a pretty major part of gaming. In 10 years they'll probably go for $8-10K, but will likely cap out around that, since there aren't many people that would spend more than that, even in the collector's arena.
Clearly there is a huge demand for this. I hope Sony will do another batch.
does anyone actually have one in their hands or is this just a case of selling it on the promise they pre-ordered one? when i tried to buy one it was a pre-order for a future date.
I'd think that if someone actually did sit on their purchase for 8 or so years then that would be a bit different than buying up all the stock and selling right away (like the very next day). I can understand collectors' mentality. Being a collector and being a scalper though are 2 different things. I also hope that they do this again. I think it would be amazing if they came out with a mass production schedule for these therefore making these insanely priced PS4s not worth it :)
what was the original price on them? $400/500?
this is Sony's fault for making it a limited edition. fools like these taking advantage. if these were mass produced no chance anyone would pay that much.
Sadly I'm the one that bought one of these...
How much did you pay?
Based on what i see you would be looking at over $1500
Haha I'm just joking you guys. That's crazy no way!!!!
You are sad.
I wanted to buy it, but I never found out where to buy it until it was too late.
Honestly if I got one of these as a collector and then I saw I can get $20,000+ for it on ebay I would have to consider selling it.
But what's the price of your soul?
Yeah. I can say its sad that so many of these have been ebayed but at the same time, if I had one, I would definitely think about it... That's a lot of money for what is at the end of the day, just a PlayStation 4. EDIT - for perspective, there is a "Buy it now" one on Ebay UK for £3,850. PS4 costs around £300 I believe... That's quite a mark up lol
I wouldn't even need to think about it, if I can get 1000%+ ROI it would be up there before I even got home with it. It's just a console after all.
Same here. It's a great collector's piece, and I'd love to have one, but 20K is a lot of money. I could take half and buy a bunch of other really awesome collectibles and still be happy, then use the other half to pay down my bills.:) I probably wouldn't resell it for $1-1.5K though.
Really upset about this as I tried to legitimately get one for myself but was unable to get through the checkout process.
I found out how to get one right now and way cheaper too. Grab a PlayStation and put it on top of your PlayStation 4 then smoke some reafer and wait a few minutes... and now you have a way cheaper 20th anniversary edition PS4. This is what I did and it worked! I will also say this version of the PS4 finally plays PS1 classics and it's so awesome.
It would be cool if they eventually release a grey PS4 that anyone can buy. I don't see why they couldn't considering they normally release their consoles in several colors. But this is not a good purchase for anyone except collectors.
Troubling numbers? lol those are some smart people. I wish it was more organized and I got one.
How is that scalpers always seem to be able to buy things that no one else can?
I wonder the same thing. People with "no lives"?! Idk...
Im sure you were trying to get one at the same time a scalper was . So 2 people doing the same thing but only 1 wants to double or triple his money and he has "No Life"? Just because one person was smart enough to find an opportunity to make money doesn't make them a no life . In that case every successful person has no life I would take that $15K-$20K they made on it over a PLaystation 4, and you would too dont even lie
complete total BS!!! we the real fans got shafted out of it. Damn trolls
Wish I could have gotten one to put it on ebay. I'm sorry, but I could use the extra money for bills and buy a regular PS4 sometime down the road since I just got my Xbox One to hold me over a while.
Sucks. I'd actually want to use mine rather than trying to make a profit. Guess I'll stick with black.
Sony should of just sold these, they would of sold like hotcakes.
They did, where do you think resellers got them? Sure some might have received the consoles as a perk of being in the media or an employee of Sony or a Sony partner, but I suspect most are people that were lucky enough to hop on the units sold through Sony's online store.
I think he meant actually keep it around, not just a limited edition.
Yeah, this is why stuff like this should just be invite only to select customers. Even games or sales at stores. Otherwise redneck central see's it and since they don't have jobs they can sit there all day and night to get it just to flip it on Ebay.....
It's not just rednecks that don't have jobs... There is a lot people living off welfare that are very far removed from being a redneck, lol.
I'm not saying that, I personally just lost my job and have been looking for work, but I'm also not standing in line at the Apple store to buy the next iPhone. There are people that make a living off ripping people off like this. Their sole purpose is to stand in line for something hot, or some sale like Black Friday, just so they can go sell it for triple the price.
I really wish I grabbed one of these and had a "Charity Auction" for 1 million USD. I'm so sad I couldn't grab one.
And there are complete stupid shits who tore open the package with their teeth, beyond any repair.
Hey a man would do it if he had one. One of the easiest way to make $1,000+ especially for a poor college student.
