Breaking: Witcher 3 delayed to May 19th, 2015

CD Projekt Red has issued the following statement about the delay for The Witcher 3, which will now release on 19th May, 2015:

Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe. The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

godammit thats a big delay.
guess the rumors of troubled development were indeed true
first the downgrade and now this...
what could have happened so suddenly , i mean they even finalized dates for the dlc

but theres nothing i would like more than a finished product. id be way more disappointed if it turned out like unity
glad cdpr is taking time to fix things.there was definitely something wrong with the last trailer
with the order 1886 getting a positive previews, feb is packed so im good.

sadly this situation is highly reminiscent to watchdogs.
the game looks phenomenal at all events , then a trailer showing downgrade is released and bam, delayed.

@JamieSI
DA i is insane just started it and in 20hrs it feels like ive barely scratched the surface,.
the areas are so many and so huge its intimidating

blitz06231098d ago (Edited 1098d ago )

I actually don't mind it. Gives me more time to dedicate to The Order if I get it. Then Bloodborne and Type-0 on March/April then this on May

Palitera1098d ago

They probably saw the s*** storm they were about to fce when they release the 25FPS console version and are worried about it now.

Sheep like to say "delays are great, it helps the product", but the truth is actually the opposite: the need of delays show that the development is troubled and they are not being able to reach even a minimum is what they wanted to.

Trouble ahead.

RealisticGamer1098d ago (Edited 1098d ago )

@Palitera
That statement is very inaccurate, i can quickly list you a bunch of games that were delayed and ended being great.

Team Fortress 2
Half-Life 2
Mafia 2
Alan Wake
L.A. Noire
Red Dead Redemption
Gran Turismo 5
GTA 5
The Last Of Us
Bioshock And Bioshock infinite
Tomb Raider(2013)

They were delayed and reached "a minimum is what they wanted to"

Just a couple of days ago CD Projekt were criticised for downgrading the graphics of the game which they denied - they blamed the trailer upload format.

In light of this and the backlash against Ubishid for their buggy Assassin's Creed 900p Parity, they probably realised they have to make sure the game is finished and that a post-release mega-patch is not acceptable anymore.

I don't mind a wait as long as it means the developers can make sure The Witcher 3 is properly working when launched.

which means The Order will be king on February with big release next to, after The Order comes Bloodborne!
Sad for Witcher fans though

I was looking forward to this game but im glad the ps4 will be getting a nice amount of games first half of 2015. I cant wait for the order 1886, bloodborne and some other games coming to the ps4 early next year.

Letthewookiewin1098d ago

Ya its actually perfect. Have Dragon Age and Farcry to work on till February then The Order and Bloodborne plus a couple choice indies. And I haven't touched The Evil Within yet. Gaming Greatness.

nucky641098d ago (Edited 1098d ago )

it's not all bad - dying light jan. 27........the order feb 16(i think).......bloodborne march 24 and witcher3 in may - this works out better than having all of those games coming out in a 4 week period.

forgot hardline in march....lots of games coming!

dumahim1098d ago

Yeah, I don't mind at all having stuff spread out a bit. Instead of like now I bought 7 games within a 3 week span. Because I have all these other games, I rushed through AC Unity after it pissed me off enough just to be done with it.

medman1098d ago

@nucky64
I had been paying absolutely no attention to Dying Light...until I saw the extended gameplay trailer shown off at the ps experience...I was stunned!! The game had flown completely beneath my radar, but it looks stunning and it looks like alot of fun. And I agree with you...it was a bit ridiculous when Bloodborne, The Witcher, and The Order were all releasing in February. I was going to buy them all anyway, but there is no way I would have found the time to play them all...this way they can all get the full attention they deserve and not be trampling each other.

DARK WITNESS1098d ago

Personally I think it's times like this we really need to make up our minds and decide what kind of gamers we are and what kind of games we want...

This year has been full of games that quite frankly were lackluster, broken piles of "^"^ that were rushed out by dev's/publishers who single and only care was their xmas deadline. Many have been vocal and given them a lot of shit for such practice.

Now on the other side we have a studio who are trying to create what *could be one of the the most, if not the most amazing next gen experience thus far. As a result the game has already been delayed.. and now delayed again.

Are we now going to give them the same shit for not delivering as we give out to those who just rush a game with the mentality that they can just patch it later?

Personally I want a games industry more focused on releasing quality games of the highest standard. If that means more games need to be delayed or even delayed twice. I can live with that.

I just want CD to deliver on the kind of game that will put most other pub/dev's to shame.

starchild1098d ago

Totally agree. Releasing a strong, polished product should be a priority. Meeting release dates is secondary.

DryBoneKoopa851098d ago

I'm upset by the news but you nailed it with your comment Dark.

I think if anything I just wish Devs would wait till they were closer to being finished with game before announcing them. Another amazing game announced way before it's time was Barman Arkham Knight.

I'm cool with delays happening if we're getting a better final product. At the same time though delaying a delayed game even further is a bit silly (IMO).

blockcoc1098d ago

@DryBoneKoopa85 Could not agree more. This time last year i was so excited for so many games. Now its only The Witcher and Bloodborne that i am genuinely excited for.

Magicite1098d ago

delaytrain..choo,choo!
I hope they take their time to polish this gem, erm I mean game!

JimmyDM901098d ago

I bet Ready at Dawn just gave a sigh of relief.

MaxwellBuddha1098d ago

And February 24 is my birthday too! Oh well, it's like Miyamoto-san says:

BallsEye1098d ago

JamieReleases1099d ago

Shame, another delay has hit this hopefully great game. Dragon Age will keep us for now I guess :)

Eldyraen1098d ago

DA:I has kept me busy enough and I've yet to beat the campaign (maybe halfway through and about 45h in) and am still enjoying multilayer as well. I've easily put 90h in so far combined.

I've played it so much I've barely scratched the surface of Farcry 4, haven't started GTA, have yet to complete Halo:MCC campaigns, etc. I'm still rock solid till Dying Light and then February begins a new minispree for Spring releases.

The delay is disappointing but almost welcome in my case.

Eonjay1099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

Been a tough week for CD. But, given the complaints it looks like they have decided to take some time for refinement (Ubisoft, we are looking at you). This pretty much makes The Order the biggest game in February. Also, now the Witcher 3 is going up against Battlefield, Bloodborne, and Final Fantasy Type 0.

Alexious1098d ago

There's still Evolve.

Also Battlefield releases in March and Bloodborne in April. TW3 will release in May, that is if there are no more delays...

Eonjay1098d ago

Edit... I was wrong here. I thought it was March 19... but its May 19. Well that is much further than I realized :(

Alexious1098d ago

Yeah...There are some issues indeed.

stavrami-mk21098d ago

Boooooooooooooooooooo that's depressed me
