I think one of the biggest surprising games is actually Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. It was announced at E3 2014. People did not expect a Captain Toad game at all. What made it so surprising is just how good and polished it is. 3d world came out only year ago and there is already an amazing Toad game with tons of content out right now. I liked it how at the end you find out it was a prequel to 3d world. It was a neat little touch. An underestimated title just like the character you play as.

Did you seriously just spoil the end of a game that came out TODAY?

Come on, man, you should have some common sense. D:<

Oh... oops. Not many people on this site play Nintendo games so I just put out a cool reason for the game. Though it is nothing super spoiler like. It was just a neat touch finding out how the captain got to where Mario was at.

Shadows of Mordor and Alien certainly were welcome surprises. A lot of licensed games turn out to be typical cash ins but both of these did the franchises proud and did it in a very original fashion.

Alien in particular could have turned into another disappointment for Aliens fans, after the shameful way Gearbox treated it. But Creative Assemblies, a developer known more for RTS games schooled Gearbox on how to do it and in incredible fashion.

Both Monolith and Creative Assembies should be applauded for making these excellent games. And I hope they both get the accolades they deserve in the many GOTY awards that sites will be giving.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a fantasy game. That word—fantasy—is a sort of shorthand, with a bunch of connotations. The word suggests to us that this game has dragons, and elves, and magic. There will be knights, monsters, and probably an evil witch or two.
