Dealspwn: "Happy 20th Birthday, PlayStation. Looking back to the very beginnings of the brand, we take a look at ten of the finest games to grace the PsOne."
Metal Gear Solid at #1. You chose... wisely. Great games there, but credit where it's due, MGS blew my mind when I first played it. Never knew games could include such massive issues, thought-provoking themes and storytelling along with freeform stealth and characters.
Agonised over Symphony of the Night vs MGS.
I would have added C-12 to the list, it was a great game.
Metal Gear Solid is not just one of the best PSOne games ever mande it is the best Metal Gear Solid ever made...
I would have added FF:Tactics and did away with Parappa.
I think Syphon Filter should of been there but which game would it replace?. Such a great game and great list.
I probably would have put the first Ridge Racer on there, since it's iconic of the brand and what drove sales in the first place. If it hadn't been for Ridge the PlayStation may not have made the early ground that it did against the Saturn. It may not be ground breaking by today's standards, or even the other games on the list, but in 1994 it was a revelation and no one had ever experienced anything like it on a home console. Other than that it's a great list and I agree with the choices on there. Also, Wipeout.
MediEvil and The Legend of Dragoon would be in my top 10. I also liked the Spider-Man games on PS1 way better than the one on PS4.
Where the hell is SYPHON FILTER?! I hate those shitty articles that choose the best PS1 games, putting the damn Metal Gear Solid at #1 and forget Syphon Filter as it was nothing.
Syphon Filter was awesome, but come on, can you really suggest that one of the other games should be knocked off to make way for it?
what if i told you the PSOne catered for everybodies tastes. this list is purely their opinion and nothing more. i still own a PSone but could care less about Final Fantasy. tried it, didnt like it (it just wasnt for me. im not saying its a crappy game). i would easily swap out both FF from that list and add syphon filter and legacy of kain: Soul reaver. does it mean im wrong now that a game doesnt agree with this list. dont be so shocked that FF isnt for me, as great of a game it is certain people cant get into certain games. i know some people that couldnt get into half life/uncharted series. doesnt mean they have crap taste in games.
Obviously the PSOne had more than 10 great games therefore not all great games can fit into a top 10 list.
Great list. Would have added legend of dragoon in there somewhere tho. Mgs1 was just on another level I never knew a game could be so unique
I remember when I saw Gran Turismo for the first time and saying to myself "Wow, graphics aren't going to get better than this!" Oh, how stupid past me was. I can't argue with the top spot on the list as it was the first PSOne game I played through, but FFVII holds a very special place in my heart as well. That said, I agree that WipeOut should have found a way on there too.
Grandia, ff9, tomba, spyro rr, ff7, crash team racing, Dino crisis, re3, mgs, SOTN
crash team racing was my fav back in the day :D
My top 3: 1)FFIX 2)MGS 3)FFVII
That's a damn fine top three. That was the great thing about the PSOne, and the PS2 to an even greater degree... you could put twenty people in a room, have them come up with a top three, and they'd all be different, and all be awesome :D
No Twisted Metal II?
Great list, my list is similar but would have had xenogears and suikoden II on it.
My favorites are DIABLO, COMMAND AND CONQUER RED ALERT 2, FINAL FANTASY 7,8 and 9
Spyro should be on this list!!
Crash 3 only an honorable mention? I didn't even bother reading the list after I saw that.
9,but no 8????rofl
Resident Evil and Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis 2 should be on that list as well. Is too many great games on PS One so is hard to fit all into one pot and call that TOP 10.
Agreed. A top 100 is more likely for PS1 huge library. Tons of amazing games from 1st & 3rd party and i'm sure people played at least 20-30 great PS1 games.
Good list. My top 12 in no particular order: Twisted Metal 2 World Tour Destruction Derby Metal Gear Solid FFVII Power Move Pro Wrestling Resident Evil Directors Cut Cool Boarders 3 Crash Bandicoot (2 kinda sucked, 3 was good also) Tomb Raider Suikoden Soviet Strike Castlevania Symphony of the night
Choosing a top ten from PS1 library is veryyyyyy difficult: MGS Gran Turismo Twisted Metal Symphony of the Night Suikoden Wild Arms Xenogears Legend of Dragoon Legend of Legaia Alundra Tales of Destiny / Eternia FF VII-IX FF Tactics Brigandine Syphon Filter Ace Combat Guilty Gear SF Alpha SF EX Soul Edge Front Mission Breath of Fire Resident Evil Dino Crisis Silent Hill Medal of Honor Megaman Legend The Misadventure of Tron Bonne and many more! Even unique games like Parappa the Rapper, Jumping Flash, Vib-Ribbon, or Pepsiman had their own fans. So a top ten from PS1 library is impossible task for me.
What about tomb raider and resident evil?
SO MANY GREAT GAMES on PS1... Still my fave console OF ALL TIME, without question. I really miss many of the great times & games on that machine... Truly groundbreaking console, that made console gaming mainstream in a HUGE way, & revolutionized the industry, as well as introducing a massive audience to 3D gaming... I haven't been blown away by a console as much, before, or since. But I reckon I could almost be, if they started bringing back some of the awesome IP's it had... Crash, Medievil, Bushido Blade, Tobal, Rage Racer, Blasto, Jersey Devil, Burning Road, Motorhead, Syphon Filter, Medal Of Honor, Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8, Driver, Jet Moto, Wipeout, & TOO many others to mention.....then to help, Zipper being reformed to make a PS4 Socom, as well as Lightbox being supported by Sony for a Warhawk sequel, & many, many more. The might of the PS brand, once again seeing the masses of games it once was renowned for....would just be icing on the cake....
