The Co-op Podcast #101: Will Gran Turismo 7 Do What DriveClub Didn’t?

Gary Swaby of The Koalition writes:

With Forza being the go-to driving experience for gamers who take their driving seriously, Sony has struggled to keep up with the consistency of the series. They used to run the sim-racer genre with Gran Turismo, but the long development cycles helped dip things in Forza‘s favor. When we first saw DriveClub back in February 2013, we all thought Sony would have a brand new racing experience for their platform that could potentially top rival games in the genre.

However, with DriveClub‘s controversial launch issues the game has gained a negative stigma. A new Gran Turismo is heavily rumored to be launching on the PS4 within the next two years. Will Gran Turismo 7 be the racer that the Playstation platform needs? We debate it on the show.

As long as it isn't released with a broken online then Gran Turismo will instantly be more successful than Driveclub.

this part is really funny

"With Forza being the go-to driving experience for gamers who take their driving seriously, Sony has struggled to keep up with the consistency of the series."

GT5 alone have sold around the same amount of copies of the whole Forza franchise COMBINED, how is Forza suddenly the "go-to" game between the 2?

must be an Xbox only gamer.

While I've loved the Forza series, I have noticed Xbox owners aren't too fond of racing games as they are first person shooters, so it'll probably never get the same sales and recognition as the Gran Turismo series, which is sad because it's an undeniably fantastic series and I love it just as much as I do Gran Turismo.

gt7 will do everything driveclub should have done and more - 6 already does that now. i just hope they fix the engines so they don't sound like hair dryers.

If they make it sound close to Drive Club, I'm game. Love Gran Turismo!

driveclub did get the sounds very right, will certainly give it that.

The sin Driveclub did was to advertised the online part as the main attraction and that is why it failed miserably, if the developers focus on a more SP experience it would be an instant success, I mean the game had/has everything the visuals(holy damn the visuals), the cars, and also the unique tracks, and controls too. But damn they went on every showcase to talk about club this club that and in second term the visuals.

I really don't know why this online thinking is taking over in our games, they don't realize in the long term it will just screw this game industry, why in hell they just go back years back and see what this game industry was forge in ?, this game industry is what it is now cause, awesome single experiences or what ? N64 PS1, PS2, NES, SNES, gameboy, Saturn, Dreamcast had online element as the main attraction ? HELL FREAKING NO!!!!

When you go to the theater, what exactly are you aiming for ? chat with the person on your side ? lol NO!, is to be immerse into a possible rich story and interesting characters simple as that!!

Online is great addition to our games, but for the good sake of this game industry it must stay as an element just that! and NOT as the main attraction.
