Comic books have become a big business — or rather, comic book properties have. Marvel movies like Guardians, Iron Man, and The Avengers have made their fortune by being flashy, fast-paced, and most of all fun. Last year's Man of Steel offered a remarkably grim take on Superman, and publicity stills of the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman featuring a morose Caped Crusader and an uncharacteristically bleak take on Wonder Woman have left comic fans scratching their heads. Where's the fun, they wonder?
