Dev On PS4 And Xbox One: Neither Platform Was 'Easier' To Achieve 1080p And 60fps

Only a handful of AAA games have achieved that standard on current gen consoles and given that a modern PC can run most games at the highest standard available, it's no doubt frustrating that year old consoles are not able to achieve the same.

Not to discredit or bash, but this game "Roundabout" doesnt seem all that demanding. This conversation is only meaningful when we are dealing with AAA games that employ most or all of the bells and whistles. Also, this web site is exceedingly difficult to navigate given the ads, especially from a tablet.

ShinMaster1181d ago (Edited 1181d ago )

Most of the time we see an article that claims that there's no difference between Xbox One and PS4 when it comes to development and performance, we find out that the comment was made by developers of smaller games that aren't very demanding.

Gamer19821180d ago

Why is it only indie devs make statements like this?? I'll tell you why because indie games are not graphical heavy in 99% of cases so they have a lot more room to play with unlike AAA games which need to squeeze every bit of hardware each console has. Thats when devs notice the real differences between consoles. An indie dev will never really see the power differences if there game only uses a 1/4 of the consoles power.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1181d ago

For every developer that says that both consoles are capable of the same things, there are 5 who say that the PS4 is the easiest console to develop games for.

gangsta_red1181d ago

Then there will be 5 N4G posters who will yell "parity" when Xbox One achieves 1080p.

FriedGoat1181d ago (Edited 1181d ago )

If the devs haven't cut anything from the xbox one version and it's the same resolution then the PS4 is not being used to it's full potential.

You should know this by now.

CaptainObvious8781181d ago

And they would be right to do so.

gangsta_red1181d ago

Then take a look at these articles and CTRL + F parity and look at how many people yell or bring it up when Xbox One achieves 1080p.

And I didn't even include the obvious AC:U article.

I could find more but you get the picture.

"Then there will be 5 N4G posters who will yell "parity" when Xbox One achieves 1080p."

"Then there will be 5 N4G posters who will yell "parity" when Xbox One achieves 1080p."

There should be a lot more than 5 who say something as obvious as that. If both achieve 1080p, the PS4 version should have some added bells and whistles. Lighting, frame rate, etc. The more powerful console will have things like that if the devs truly take advantage of that power.

freshslicepizza1181d ago (Edited 1181d ago )

numbers mean very little at the end of the day because the consumer only cares about the final product. all last generation we were told by sony how much more powerful the ps3 was but did that really matter? a small percentage actually showed that power because it was a pain in the ass to work on. the ps2 was also a pain but everyone learned quick because that was the system to sell your game on and again the consumer cared very little the xbox was a better system going by numbers.

moving forward to the ps4 and the product clearly shows the system to be better most of the time. thats because not only is the system better on a technical level overall but also easy to work on. meaning the consumer is already aware through the product that its better. most dont care about numbers, they care about tangible things, the actual games.

this game is not pushing the hardware, which is why achieving 1080p and 60 frames was easy. so from his point of view he's correct.

We're going to hear more from the minority now, because Microsoft is back to being the media darling, and part of that is to claim the Xbox One is as powerful as PS4. I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing articles claiming every game looks better on Xbox One. People are so predictable.

strangeaeon1181d ago

Yes, people are indeed that predictable.Your comment is sort of ironic however.

BX811181d ago

Media darling? Dont be mad bro. Ms is back where they deserve to be. They put in the work making things right when they messed up. Just like sony played the course and reaped around 15million consoles sold. Lets fault sony and ms for doing right /s.

GameLover561181d ago

Cry me a river Sony fan seriously tell it like is not the way you assume

Lust4fartdust1181d ago (Edited 1181d ago )

I cannot believe people really make that big of deal over the resolution, did u know that twitch on ps4 broadcasts at a lower resolution then Xbox one, 540p on ps4 and 720p on Xbox one, but let me guess, that don't matter and ur right it don't matter just like 1080p vs 900p don't matter. PS3 was more powerful then Xbox 360 did that matter last gen. No it didn't but once again u Sony fanboys are more concerned with these silly things. It's like when a 8 yr old says "oh yeah, well my dad can kick ur dads butt". Lol. I guarantee 99% of people cannot tell the difference between 900p or 1080p. While u joksters are trying to get around psn issues at "full 1080p", I'll be playing on Xbox live at "900p".

Foehammer1181d ago

Well said

and so true

Great to see the developers succeed; the tools continue to improve.

and sadly, it's bitter pill for some to swallow as we can all see from the hate spammers above.

ShwankyShpanky1181d ago

Twitch streams from PS4 have had a 720p option since FW 1.7 (March).

And I wouldn't say it "don't matter," but I would definitely say the stream resolution matters a lot less than the live gaming resolution.

Also: "lol" @ "psn always broken / xbl flawless!" implication.

pivotplease1180d ago

As a PS fan I agree with you. The multiplat discrepancies are only a big deal if all you play are multiplats and even then are minor differences. The true differences will be notable when Uncharted 4 releases. Even Uncharted 3 and TLoU graphically exceed 90% of what we've seen this gen. I guess in the scenario you've given Uncharted 4 would be my dad and Halo 5 would be yours. Weird.

Calling it now. Halo has better MP and Uncharted has better single player and graphics. I wonder if U4 will have MP actually...
