Pen and paper RPG’s are literally the backbone of any video game RPG. Period. So when they make the jump to the video game screen, it can be a big thing.
The Dark Eye universe has a newish addition: Skilltree Saga. The game purports to focus on character development and is named after a fundamental part of a video game character's structure. Unfortunately, players expecting to get a rich Dark eye experience, will find themselves unsheltered by this skill tree.
Carl Williams writes, "Turn based role playing games are not all that common on Android and iOS. Sure, we get them from time to time but they are usually mixed with some kind of weird collectible card game mechanic. Personally, I prefer straight turn based role playing games that are similar to what we saw back in the early 90’s. Skilltree Saga is similar to those classics I remember, but there is plenty of new stuff to keep fans interested. Headup Games have added in a bit of “rogue-like” mechanics to the Skilltree Saga proceedings- a welcome addition if you ask me. Your mileage may vary though."
SteamFirst: There have been a few games I have played that involved developing a skill tree and level grinding as a way to advance the story and reach new areas. The makers of Skilltree Saga saw other games that had these elements, and decided to cut out all the unnecessary fat like an immersive plot and world exploration and make a game that is nothing but playing with a skill tree and level grinding.
