Has 2014 Really Been That Bad? (A Year in Review)‏

2014 has had its issues but Brash Games would argue that the positives comfortably outweigh the negatives, and with so many fantastic games to play over Christmas, it seems absurd to write off 2014 as a disappointment.

No !! Why do people keep saying that? Its definitely with the most disappointing overhyped games but other than that , it was fine.

I think they believe that if they repeat it enough times it becomes true.

This is the mantra of the delusional.

So far this has been a great year for gaming. I think what they mean is that a few of the AAA games haven't lived up to expectations or have had broken launches. That doesn't mean all of the games this year have had those problems.

It's like they can't see the forest for the trees.

And my opinion is based on owning only one of the three consoles. I can look at the other two and say, "That game looks great and it is well received by gamers."

What about Mario Kart 8 and Smash?

Totally agree. There have been a couple of stinkers, but while there has been little in the way on revolutionary gaming, there has been a huge amount of very solid releases.

There was a lot of disappointment this year, but those that didn't disappoint were absolute gold. Smash, Bayonetta 2, Infamous Second Son, Sunset Overdrive, lots to love. Don't let bad third-party publishers sour your year. :)

Yeah, there have been a decent amount of great games.
Heck, indies have really been knocking it out of the park recently.
We should keep in mind that the big-budgets aren't always the end-alls of entertainment; the little guys make some damned decent games, too, and if we open our minds to them then we're sure to find a whole lot more to enjoy beyond what we're used to.[On that note, give Shovel Knight a try, guys!]

Having said that, though...
I think we've been too soft on AAA third parties and their multiplats, recently, personally.
There have been too many instances where they've screwed up games recently, but because of one reason or another [usually because of the system that said games arrive on aren't necessarily the ones getting the worst versions of multiplats, as an often-held excuse, but there's many reasons], we somehow give them a pass and say it's not a problem, even going so far as to justify them.

It's just my opinion, but I feel there should be treatment parity across all consoles, from third parties.
Not in things that can't be helped, like graphics, since system capabilities differ.
But there really shouldn't ever be an excuse to not include all the same modes, content, release dates and optimization work for any and all versions of a game that third parties make available across multiple platforms.

I think it's time we, as consumers, started saying "No" to bad ports, instead of passing them off because of the reasons like the complaints coming from owners of systems we may not care about.
