With its touch controls and capability to display information on one screen and action on the other, the dual-screened console seemed like the perfect home for the RTS genre – something that Castle Conqueror proved quite well. Now, over three years into the 3DS’s lifespan, the aforementioned genre is still shockingly unrepresented on the family of portable consoles. Rather than opening up a gateway for the genre, Castle Conqueror instead paved the way for four sequels of its own which, according to this site’s reviews, were all pretty great. In a not-so-shocking turn of events, the original Castle Conqueror game is back, this time in the form of a 3DS eShop remake titled Castle Conqueror EX."

"RTS games have always been interesting to me, so I decided to try out Castle Conqueror EX. Assembling armies, invading enemies, obtaining loot- good times! Circle Entertainment’s latest installment in the series promises a title that is easy to learn, but is tough to master, which appealed to me the most. And in the end, I felt that the game accomplished this goal. But the repetitive nature of the game, requiring constant grinding in order to advance further, leads to a title that can be quite tedious at times."
The game you're being given here is an updated version of its DSiWare predecessor, Castle Conqueror, but this is not one of those lazy, unmotivated updates. For instance every hero’s abilities as well as all of the items have been totally redesigned. Enemies are more challenging this time around, AI is greater, and even the levels are redone.
"CIRCLE Entertainment’s latest title, Castle Conquerors EX, for the 3DS eShop was teased in August as the sixth release in the real-time strategy series, with plenty of improvements promised over the DSiWare original.
Now, the prolific digital developer has revealed Castle Conqueror EX is invading the North American 3DS eShop later this week on 23rd October, for US$3.99. A European release is also on its way, with the game currently undergoing the classification phase."
