Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Sells 7.5 Million Units First Week Worldwide

VGChartz Writes: "Yesterday it was reported that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sold 3.72 million units in its first week in the US. Worldwide sales figures are out now and the game has sold 7.51 million units at retail. This is by far the biggest launch of 2014, easily outselling other titles such as Destiny, Titanfall and FIFA 15.

The PlayStation 4 version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was by far the most popular with sales of 3.05 million units. The Xbox One was the second biggest platform with sales of 2.06 million units. Sales for the last generation of consoles has declined for another year. The Xbox 360 version sold 1.22 million units, while the PlayStation 3 version sold 1.09 million units. The PC lagged behind with just 94,480 units sold.

When you compare it with the launch of last year's title, Call of Duty: Ghosts, sales are up year-over-year, as stated by Activision. However, that is only true if you subtract the later launches of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Ghosts sold 7.25 million units worldwide at retail at launch, while if you add in launch sales for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game it sold 8.23 million units."

This is really no surprise. This is by far the best COD in the series. Yes, even better than Call of Duty 4 IMO. What flatters me the most is that they primarily developed the game on PS4 for a change. The sony brand love gave me a reason to finally jump back into the cod scene. I just hated the biased crap we had to deal with last generation. Well done Activision!

Jason_Plays_PC1341d ago

Its not as bad as i was expecting ill give it that, but better than 4? Not for me (imo).

venom061341d ago

first week sales dont mean much of anything as it's pretty much baased on HYPE, Activision PR/Marketing, and IGN fanboying... let's see what those numbers are after 3 months when negative word of mouth and headache causing issues are constantly poppin up on this game.

Dudebro901341d ago

7 million copies doesn't mean anything??

Walker1341d ago

"This is by far the best COD in the series."

LoL, Call of Duty 2 says hi also Call of Duty: Modern Warfare can be in the seccond place

Summons751341d ago

True, after those two the series takes a very very steep fall off a cliff.

Immorals1341d ago

Correction, this is the least bad since black ops. The single player is solid, but the multiplayer is miles away from the experience in 2/4/[email protected], and not in a good way.

raptorjacob1341d ago

You liked world at war multiplayer?

Immorals1341d ago

@raptor it was my favourite. Ww2 has always been a huge interest to me, and I loved the maps, the weapons and the set 3 kill streaks. It wasn't overly complicated either.

NobleRed1341d ago (Edited 1341d ago )

Best Cod in the series?
Worst Netcode maybe

Major....remove your head from Sony's butt before you type.

@Walker Funny.. opinions I guess. But I disagree. Call of Duty 2 was horrible. The best multiplayer games the last 3 gens were:

1. Killzone 1
2. SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs
3. Advanced Warfare
4. Call of Duty 4
5. MAG

xKugo1341d ago (Edited 1341d ago )

I have to put Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in that list just because that game was just so ahead of it's time on so many levels. It's predecessors fail to match up to it in any way gameplay wise(of course they're better graphically). However, outside of that I agree with the majority of your list. Thought KZ2 was better than first one though...

LOGICWINS1341d ago

BC2 and KZ2 were my top 2 MP games of last gen. For this gen, Advanced Warfare is my #1.

SJPFTW1341d ago

You must not play a lot of games then if that is your top 5 in the past 15 or so years.

darren_poolies1341d ago

Guess you never played Halo 3 huh?

Major_Nailson1341d ago

Halo? You've got to be kidding me right? I think Xbox's weakest strength is multiplayer games. There is nothing on the xbox worth playing online in my opinion. I am not a fanboy, I own all 3 consoles.

4Sh0w1341d ago (Edited 1341d ago )

Yeah opinions are great, I hated Killzone 2 so much I didn’t bother with KZ3, its weird cause I lean towards Sci-Fi driven themes, yet KZ doesn't resonate with me. I loved all the Halo games with Halo 2 being my favorite. I don't know exactly what it is but for some reason I'm more of a COD + Halo + Gears type shooter fan, still I'm being completely serious that I've bought most Battlefield and Far Cry games despite not really liking the previous ones, yet I have friends who somehow sway me because they swear the latest one is soooooo good(Not going to happen this time). Try as much as I can, I just end up not playing them for long, BF4 was a good example bought it digital like all my games this gen= its the only game I truly feel like was a waist of my money, I just dont enjoy it, maybe part of it is that I suck at it but I don’t really think that's it since I'm average at COD and Halo also but I'm always coming back more trying to get better and my K.D. ratio is not much different at about even across all 3 games however with BF4 and Far Cry games I always just quit playing it in less than a month. You see every game has its "thing", Halo is just old school Sci-fi universe, big weapons, fluid, balanced gameplay, COD is fast paced twitch shooter, action movie feel, Gears is in your face, tough guy type sports adrenaline like shoooter, while for me KZ and BF4 tend to lean on tech and realism which is fine just imo they don't offer that same gratifying "I'm a badass" feel, Far Cry I just simply dont "get it", if you know what I mean.

This why I can completely understand when some people say they don't like Halo, NO I obviously I don't agree with anyone who thinks it isn't one of the top shooters but because the shooter genre has so many options and the dynamics of gunplay/gameplay although are all just "shooting" stuff its still a very real intangible "feel" that they give you so it's so easy to fall in love with certain "styles" of shooters.

-This is my best guess why Killzone and Far Cry aren't my cup of tea and why Battlefield doesn't hold me for long= all excellent games I just think when I'm playing a shooter the balance between realism and fun needs to lean more on the fun side for me to really enjoy them sort of like if you had to pick would you rather see a really awesome action movie vs a really good movie based on a true story.

DialgaMarine1341d ago

Everyone wants to hate, but Bubs and agree just for MAG. MAG is by far my favorite MP game next to Starhawk. So underrated and amazing.

WeAreLegion1341d ago

While four of those are extremely fun, I don't think Advanced Warfare touches a lot of other games.

I preferred Resistance: Fall of Man and Killzone 2.

Alsybub1341d ago (Edited 1341d ago )

Yup, we all have our own opinions.

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat on PC (not to be confused with the mediocre console game) for me. It was so far ahead of everything else at the time and it was definitely the inspiration for CoD 4. Modern Combat/Modern Warfare sound a little similar, right? Then came 2142 and that was a tad similar (very similar) to Black Ops 2. Anyway, I'm getting off topic.

I know that a lot of people loved Bad Company (me included) but those games were dumbed down in comparison. It wasn't until BF3 came out that there was an equivalent on console.

If I had to think of two more multiplayer games, make a top three, they would probably be Halo 2 and then CoD4.

That's based on how addicted I was to them.

Numbers are probably way off especially for the pc since it doesn't include digital.

Fullbucket1341d ago (Edited 1341d ago )

Most fun I've had with CoD since Blops. Loving the Tac-19. The Sledgehammer variant is the tits.

St0rm_Cr0w1341d ago

A good COD should sell well. A bad COD shouldn't. This is a good COD.

dillhole1341d ago

All CODs sell well. If this was worse than Ghosts then I think COD's big sales glory days would have been numbered.
