During the previous console generation, the industry made a point of adding competitive multiplayer to most of its major titles.
Games that would traditionally have been single-player-only experiences now featured multiplayer modes: Uncharted, Mass Effect, Dead Space, and Assassin's Creed. With the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 hitting the streets last year, at least one publisher is shifting gears. Ubisoft is adding cooperative multiplayer to two of its major titles for 2014, with team play being a big part of another game due in 2015. '
2014 will see Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed Unity add co-op to their respective series for the first time; Far Cry has previously been single-player-only, with co-op restricted to a small separate campaign, and Assassin's Creed has included competitive (but not cooperative) multiplayer since 2010's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
