A few years ago, Blizzard Entertainment had already cemented itself as a gaming powerhouse. World of Warcraft defined the MMO genre, peaking at just over 12 million subscribers. Starcraft II was a successful launch in 2010, catching the wave as eSports expanded from Starcraft-loving Korea to the rest of the world. Diablo III launched with some issues, but it was still a best-seller and Blizzard was committed to making it as much a critical success as a financial one.
