GamerGate: Women in the $100b video game industry under fire with threats of murder and rape

Whether or not you are a gamer with RSI-riddled thumbs, there is no denying the video game industry is huge.

According to US tech research firm Gartner, the global video game industry is worth over $100 billion but has recently been rocked by a scandal known as GamerGate.

It began in August this year as an allegation of sexual favours for positive game reviews and exploded into an online culture war, sparking debates about journalistic ethics and the role and treatment of women in the video game industry.

The story is too old to be commented.

Yes...because it's just women in the video game industry that this sort of thing happens to

¬¬

Jesus Christ, how many people get treat like shit online, I'm not saying it should happen but because there isn't a firm solution to tackle the problem and make it go away just brush it off and get on with your life.

Not forget male figures on the GamerGate side have had their side of abuse and even stuff sent to them in the mail like a syringe and a knife with a note saying kill yourself. Havant heard anything on that....oh yeah because they didn't want to make a big deal out of it and derail what GG is really about.

""Despite the fact that she was able to refute these allegations, it kind of stirred up quite an online backlash towards her"

But she DID do it, it was proven to be true. Oh and "angry boyfriend", don't make out like he's in the wrong, she slept with FIVE PEOPLE behind his back just to further herself in the industry with a crap game she made...no sorry a crappy game she got two others to code for her. I would be just as ticked off as him

Honestly these sites don't do their research do they.

when you see sites like this its best to write them off. They are super late and did no research beyond skimming through some articles with probably even less research done. For them to still be labeling an entire group of incredibly diverse people as attackers clearly shows that... The anti #gg rarely even sing that same old song anymore.
Its frustrating but I think at this point its best to ignore them and let them come rationale on their own time... Which will probably never happen.. I mean we STILL have major news publications saying that games cause crimes..
