Can't wait, only a week left! :D

This whole 'day 1 patch' thing nowadays is basically just the dreaded 'Day 1 online DRM' everyone was so mad about last year.

Not very happy about it. They shouldn't be releasing games that NEED a day 1 patch, because clearly that just means they sell you a broken product (on purpose?) that needs to fixed as soon as you put it in your machine.

That might be OK now when we're all online and all these servers are obviously up, but what about 20 years from now!? And yes, 20 years from now there will still be people playing 'old classics', just like they do now, and they want to play them on the original machines.

20 years from now hopefully you still have the patch installed and don't have to worry about it,

Day one patches usually contain fixes that are made from when the game has gone gold, up until the time of release. Devs can't work on the game after it's gone gold, so they work on fixes until the game is released, and then release those fixes as a day one patch.

It's not a matter of saying "oh, screw it, we'll fix that later in the day one patch". Companies have strict timelines to meet. Cut them some slack and show a little understanding. ;)

Completely agreed! Once a game has gone gold, would you rather the company just stop working on it, and not release the patch? Sure, it would be nice if every bug, and every update came with the game when it shipped, but that's just not realistic.

We now have the ability to patch games after they have shipped, to make them even better. Why not use it.

Now, I'm not saying that there aren't developers that use this to the disadvantage of the gamer (releasing a broken game because we can just fix it later). But I don't think its fair to jump to conclusion with every developer that if they use a day 1 patch, their game must be broken!.

It takes like 2 mins to download and install, and makes your game better, get over it. You should be happy they released it. We are not entitled to many of these updates, but act like we are. Many companies choose to support their product after it sells. All we are entitled to is what we buy.

I preordered this yesterday when picking up MCC, these remasters add life to old games... fantastic fillers till the new Elder Scrolls or Fallout....

I think you are right. They sell you a game, but as soon as you put it in the system, you need an update. The only good thing is, if you bought a physical copy, you can still sell it.

I own PS3 digital but I couldn't help to buy it again! It's gonna be awesome!!

ManiacMansion1129d ago

This is getting facking ridiculous with the DAY1 patches.

Anyway.. great game!

jrshankill1129d ago (Edited 1129d ago )

I agree. COD, Halo and now GTA. I am sure there are others too. What happened to testing games?!

Looks like we do need our consoles online after all. Heaven forbid we don't and we get sold a broken game.

ManiacMansion1129d ago

Unity, Lords of the Fallen, Dragon Age.. nearly ALL GAMES.

Hell, last gen you had to wait WEEKS and you needed much luck to get a beta key to test some games and nowadays everybody can test it and at the end the games come bugged with issues, lmao

Audiggity1128d ago

What?! Do you have any idea what goes into the game development process?

The day 1 patches/future patches are not high priority elements typically picked up by QA/testers. I'd bet $1,000 that you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference from a patched vs. non-patched game.

These aren't broken games... smh... these are responsible developers supporting their products.

People need to stop whining about every little thing.

Audiggity1128d ago

What is the big deal? It's a patch, to make the game run better... would you prefer them to skip the patches and spend an extra year making sure the game is bug free? Or to have the occasional 2 minute delay to have a dynamically updated game.

Everyone is so butt-hurt from a Day 1 patch, it's not a big deal at all.

FullmetalRoyale1129d ago

I was hoping there would be some enhanced character creation. Hopefully this means I can make my guy blonde, along with a beard that matches, as opposed to being forced to be clean shaven.

Next gen!

Lol

This and Dragon Age on the same day... Woo boy.

pompombrum1129d ago

Next gen character creator!! This was so badly needed.. hopefully this time around we won't end up with all our characters either looking identical or like the RDR protagonist.
