With a larger map for players to explore in Dragon Age: Inquisition, the game offers many new opportunities to fight the apex predators of Thedas in a variety of environments as the large scale of the title provides plenty of places for dragons to attack. Discussing how these legendary beasts are encountered within the series’ newest entry, Dragon Age: Inquisition producer Cameron Lee recently spoke out about how the create spawn system of Inquisition will populate dragons into the world.
Since dragons are so important to the game’s lore, BioWare wanted to make sure that battling these massive creatures was one of the most challenging obstacles that players will face. As dragons themselves are so gigantic in scale, the developer wanted to control the location where these fights would take place to ensure that there is enough room and that players are able to employ the proper tactics in order to survive.
As a result, all dragons will be found in predefined, static locations. Players will never encounter randomly spawning dragons. As Lee explained how the dragons are found within the game he said, “That may have cheapened the experience a little bit,” but BioWare decided it was better to be able to personally craft and control these epic encounters. This control will produce better, more memorable fights rather than leaving the system up to random spawns that wouldn’t allow the developer the opportunity to properly design the battle.
