Will Bethesda Bring Skyrim to Xbox One and PS4?

Christopher Buffa (Prima Games): It was inevitable that a handful of publishers would release Xbox 360 and PS3 games on the newest consoles. What we didn’t expect was the high level of quality across the board. Both Metro Redux and Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition outpace their predecessors, while Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 for Xbox One and PS4 looks so incredible it demands everyone’s attention, even if they played it last year. This trend should continue into 2015, with the popular Saints Row 4: Re-Elected + Gat out of Hell slated to arrive on January 20th. Indeed, what is old is new again.

The influx of quality reboots resulted in an ongoing discussion around the office concerning The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and a potential re-release on Microsoft and Sony’s machines.

No. Probably not. Bethesda wouldn't be able to compete with the already existing PC mods out there, and it'd still be locked down. So ... why?

Buff10441107d ago

Do you think it would be a big seller among these audiences, though?

decrypt1107d ago

Funny thing is, why are console gamers so hyped for older games to get re-released?

How many games do they intend to rebuy this gen lol, dont they understand it wont work again the next gen? So its kinda catch 22 situation. You cant make a library on consoles period.

And this is how console gaming is supposed to be cheap with users rebuying games over and over on their 400usd boxes lol.

user55757081107d ago

i would hope not...skyrim in 900p? no thanks

breakpad1107d ago

i hope not ..better to make another elder scrolls ...but i dont think buggy mods can compete with the creators of the engine itself ..they just need to work more

ShinoBro1107d ago

Are you kidding me? The community bug fix patches (mods) are what make that game playable.

Aleithian1107d ago

I disagree. I would buy a next-gen Skyrim (or Fallout 3) on release day, and plenty others would too.

Muzikguy1107d ago (Edited 1107d ago )

I would probably buy a skyrim game for the PS4. It would be nice if it supported mods, but the game is awesome without mods too. I have it on the computer and just stopped playing one day when I started getting too many console games

2pacalypsenow1107d ago (Edited 1107d ago )

cuz most people dont buy games cuz how they look compared to pc and to mod them?

spacedelete1107d ago

what has that got to do with it getting ported and remastered ? most of the best games ever have been created so whats the point in new games ? theres your answer to your lame logic.

Antifan1107d ago (Edited 1107d ago )

I remember when you guys said the same thing about GTA5 lol. Bethesda just trademarked Fallout ultimate collection a few days ago. So who is getting this collection? Current-gen consoles, duh. What else would it be? If Bethesda is open to a Fallout PS4/Xbone port, then they're REALLY open to a Elder Scrolls collection for PS4/Xbone.

_LarZen_1107d ago

Bethesda wouldn't have to compete with the PC version and mods. But against last gen consoles. Console gamers don't care about PC and what is going on there.

I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Same goes for all the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games.

memots1107d ago

modding? You mean that fapping material those 40 years hold virgin are creating?

Its a sad thing to watch. As if Skyrim world all the women would be wearing high heels and stiletto boots

Cuzzo631106d ago

I thought this pertained to the consoles... what does the pc mods have to do with the CONSOLES!... I thought consoles were the bigger market?.... So why this comment

I wouldn't buy it again unless they added mods

Buff10441107d ago

Did Bethesda do its own mods, or has that been largely community driven?

Irishguy951107d ago

Mods are only community driven, generally creating a superior game than the original. In every way(I do mean every way)

-Foxtrot1107d ago

I don't see why they can't bring the Nexus to consoles. Just let people download from there, it's not going to kill them

Bethesda need something like that to get people to buy next gen versions.

If they can open mods up to consoles then more developers will bring mod support to their future games

Pandamobile1107d ago

Bethesda's not going to do that. They don't own Nexus, nor would they want to pony up the effort needed in order to get a working (legal) mod portal on consoles.

If you want to mod your games, your gonna have to do it on PC, where you have control over your game files and folders.

vega2751107d ago

@ pandamobile

" if you want to mod your games, your gonna have to do it on PC"

That is the very reason why I bought it for PC when it released. There is no incentive for me to buy it again for X1 or PS4.

Vegamyster1107d ago (Edited 1107d ago )

The Nexus mod is designed for Windows, not custom OS's also like Pandamobile said.

-Foxtrot1107d ago

Cant they just make something LIKE the Nexus

An app for consoles

tack1291107d ago

Umm, will Microsoft and Sony allow it? It's a big legal hurdle to even pull off.

If you really want a next-gen Skyrim, you're better off just buying it on PC and install mods on it.

lemoncake1107d ago

If they took the best mods and added them then it would be an instant buy.

madmonkey011107d ago

more likely to do oblivion i would say. but they are probably too bust with a new fallout and new ES to worry about porting an old game just yet.

BitbyDeath1107d ago

Don't see the point, i'm sure most who wanted to play it already have as it didn't release at the end of lastgen.
