With the recent news of the the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3DS remake, I compiled a list of five reasons why this is the best game in the franchise.
Cant wait, I love them all, those Zelda games nmm
For me ocarina of time will always be my favourite
Me too, but I still loved MM just about as much. They're kind of like the Godfather Part I and II of the gaming world.
To me, the original Legend of Zelda is the best in the series. Because it's the only one I've played.
You have been missing a lot certainly.
I wouldn't say it's the best, but it's my favorite.
Followed very very closely by LTTP.
Yeah except its not. In fact its one of the worst.
Yeah except its just opinion. It's my favorite, from both a gameplay standpoint and world standpoint. It had the most varied gameplay with the masks, and the depressing themes are some of the most memorable in the series. And the side quests were so much better than other zelda games. The stories were interesting (and often depressing) but they also had great rewards at the end, usually a mask or at least a heart piece. Personally, I loved the time system. Nothing like it in any other game. And honestly, I find MM to be WAY better than Ocarina, all just my opinion though.
OoT left a major impression simply because it was the first 3D Zelda. MM has always had a special place because it was so bleak.
Very true but I'm still excited for the remake. Hated this game as a kid and still don't like it but I will replay it either way.
...You're going to buy and play a game that you know you don't like... What???
I like Majora's Mask but the game is very different from most Zelda games. I'll take Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.
Because you aren't old enough to have played any of the older ones and it's your version of nostalgia...end of article.
I've played every zelda game:)
Oh...well excuse me then...no nostalgia glasses here http://www.ign.com/articles...
I love Majora's Mask, but I still enjoy A Link to the Past and the original the most. That's not nostalgia, either. I didn't play A Link to the Past until like five years ago. Haha.
I'm right there with you. I liked Majora's Mask and all but I still say Link to the Past is a masterpiece in the Zelda franchise, followed by the original.
I never liked this game. I tried it multiple times back in the day but it was just so boring and tedious... Seriously, people say that Zelda II is the black sheep but to me, Majora's Mask is the one and only black sheep of the series. Wouldn't touch that game again not even with a 10 foot pole.
Majora's Mask was a cash in for Nintendo before the N64 went out the door. They tooled together most of the graphics from Ocarina of Time, threw in a hacked together storyline emphasizing the masks (which the Japanese went wild for in OoT), and BAM! Instant cash cow, with minimal effort.
I was hoping they were going to release this after the little easter egg in Link Between Worlds. I haven't played this one so I'm looking forward to playing it. Just my opinion but 2d Zelda > 3d Zelda
Hmm. Would you include Windwaker as a 2D zelda? Granted, it's not like a side-scroller, or top-down style, but it certainly have some artistic element of 2D games.
I always felt it was. Loved the darker tone, the world was great and I actually really enjoyed the time mechanic; being that it successfully created the tension that the story warranted. It did a lot to mix up the formula to boot.
Nothing beats Ocarina of Time IMO!
I hated Majora's mask because it was so frustrating and boring I stopped playing it. I always wondered why MM and the later Zelda games weren't as good as Ocarina of Time and I found out that it's because OOT was the only Zelda game where Shigeru Miyamoto was the director, producer, lead designer, and lead writer. Eiji Aonuma was the lead guy in the rest of the Zelda games and Miyamoto was just one of the producers in Majora's Mask, Twilight princess, and The wind waker. I'd love to play another Zelda game created by Miyamoto.
I love Majora's Mask. But everyone always says it was a horrible game and was stressful as hell, saying that they couldn't even finish a dungeon in the time limit. I proceed to ask "Did you play the song of reverse time?" And I always get the response: "What is that? What does it do?" This happens every single time I talk to someone who disliked Majora's Mask.
Even with that it still made the game annoying as hell and made for a lot of back tracking. It had a good concept but the time management was very poorly handled.
Not really. Time management was significantly better than games such as the Atelier games, Lightning Returns, and Persona where if you miss something that only happens on a specific day, or you miss a deadline, you have to restart the entire game to be able to do it. In Majora's, if you miss something that only happens on a specific day, or you miss a deadline, just play the song of time and try again. It is a significantly better system. It wasn't annoying at all, and didn't require a lot of backtracking either. Spend the first set of 3 days getting the Deku mask off. Spend the next set of 3 days getting to the Southern Swamp temple, activate the owl statue, then song of time. Spend the third set of 3 days completing the Southern Swamp temple. Play the song of time. And so on. You can't blame the game for your inability to manage time efficiently.
It's not an "inalbility" Lightning Returns for example rewarded you for doing missions by delaying time. You didn't have to worry about restarting having to run all the way back and then again. You progressed, completed, than the next/same day if you did enough just warp to a close spot and you're off again. Your list allow shows how annoying the management was, how it made you impede your progress to start again and have to run all the way back to where you came from when you played the song. Do a tiny bit, play the song, tiny bit play the song. It was a annoying and made the game one of the worst zelda games ranking down with the worst like Twilight Princess and Zelda 2. They're all fun games but this was annoying.
Well...taste is entirely subjective. and my favorite LoZ is Link Between Worlds it did everything with such perfection IMO
