The Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta outputs at 60 frames per second and a 720p resolution, developer 343 has confirmed.
Between the missing 1080p mention at the reveal and their recent comments about framerate over resolution it is obvious this wouldn't be 1080p but 720p is pretty disappointing even for the beta. Makes me fear a 792p or something stupid final resolution
disappointing from a beta a year a way? get facking real.
there's is no way they will let it out the gate at 720p. MS will force a settings drop to get it up to 792p if anything. MS cannot afford to let any AAA games be in 720p. They may as well have just called the system the Xbox720.
I think the main game will be 720p60fps for mp too. But they probably want a rock solid 60fps and I think that in this instance that is probably the correct way to go. I do hope they can pull off 1080p60fps, but I don't think an unstable frame rate is worth the sacrifice in this case. The mp needs to be butter smooth and if this is what it takes then so be it.
@cleft5 From the article, "So, for the beta, we're going to be coming out at 720p and 60fps. That's not the final resolution for the game. You can imagine as we go through the remainder of the project we'll be focused on polishing the visual look of the game. You can expect it will look amazing when it comes out."
900p @ 60 fps confirmed.
The game looks lethal even at 720p. Cant wait to see the final product!
My bet is that final resolution will be closer to 900p or maybe what COD:AW has. key notes from the article, "For the beta, at this point we're totally focused on gameplay," he said. "We're midway through development. We're balancing and tuning the gameplay systems. All of the polish and optimisation graphically is stuff that typically comes towards the end of the production cycle. "So, for the beta, we're going to be coming out at 720p and 60fps. That's not the final resolution for the game. You can imagine as we go through the remainder of the project we'll be focused on polishing the visual look of the game. You can expect it will look amazing when it comes out."
Its a good decision. They want to hone the gameplay at the framerate its going to be played at. The resolution doesnt matter at this stage. No point balancing how everything feels when playing at 30fps when the final product is going to be 60.
It's just a shame that things have gotten so bad on here that devs can't even release a beta 1 year ahead of release with a "place holder" resolution without everyone claiming the final game will be 480i/30fps with 2D sprites. /s
Man I rally wish people like @Walker would go away and take there trolling with them. At this point its useless to be 1080p because the code is not final. This is an early build tweaking, adding, optimizing. Work in progress far from finished build.
“Man I rally wish people like @Walker would go away and take there trolling with them.” Lol. I feel your pain bro.
If you think it's useless to be at 1080p a year before release then you have no idea how software development works. They most certainly tried running it at 1080p but it didn't run good enoigh.
I'm pretty sure they're not focused on the res yet this early. @Bloodborn "They most certainly tried running it at 1080p but it didn't run good enoigh." What!? Show me proof please. I want the truth to what your sayin. I swear some of yall people man...
Exactly! not just that but also developers typically use low res textures and compressed sound files etc for a beta/alpha to keep the file size as small as possible so that more people can easily download it and try it and help them with feed back and server load stats etc. The way i look at it, for me a rock solid 60fps should always be the priority! They may even make the single player native 1080p at a solid 30fps with visual candy maxed out and then for multi player make it 60fps at 720p or whatever in between. Or possibly make it a dynamic resolution like cod or halo 2 anniversary! The bottom line is halo 4 at native 1080p 60fps looks amazing and runs like grease! So since more then anyone it will be the halo guys who push the xbox one and know all the little tricks to get the max out of it like with sony and naughty dog. I am confident that the game will look awesome and still have 60fps single player and multi player. I wish more developers would prioritise frame rate over everything else like resolution but ot game play obviously. I just hope by forcing 60fps we dont end up with another titanfall situation where the game constantly tears and has lots of frame rate drops! this would ruin the experience of the game. I would rather a locked 30 or locked 60 not a fluctuating frame rate! especially for a shooter. Time will tell, so far i am loving what i have seen so far, the game looks awesome all the while running like silk and i love the new mechanics, the boosting etc i think it will freshen up the game. After playing titanfall sine launch and now playing advanced warfare i just love the movement systems. And halo will be a better game because of it, i hated not being able to sprint etc.
The game is a year away almost. I imagine it will change quite a bit.
Just watch how great the game will look. Lately 1080p on some games hasn't been looking too great. Resogun could be 1080p. That doesn't mean it has great graphics. It doesn't. 720p on Halo 5 will look better than COD at 1080p. Plus now I have a PC that'll blow both consoles away so resolution isn't a major concern for me. Show me a great looking game with great gameplay. Also one more thing the Halo games included in the Master Chief Collection are at 1080p 60fps and still won't look as good as Halo 5.
You have obviously not played resogun.
This was one hilarious comment. So butthurt by this news that you didn't even know how to respond, you got all confused and started dismissing everything as unimportant. You went to hyping the game's graphics, then dismissing 1080p as beneficial to picture quality and then citing a PS4 arcade game as evidence (when all but 4 PS4 games ever released run at 1080p, and just about all of them look amazing doing it), then you dismiss the entire situation as no concern because you now have a PC (which you won't be able to play Halo 5 on)... Then part ways with one last reminder that a remake of games RELEASED ON THE ORIGINAL XBOX won't look as good at 1080p as a game designed exclusively for one next gen console at 720p...
I want to see you when the order, unchsrted and bloodborne comes out. Plus resogun is 1080p, tells you do not have a ps4. So please stick to you master race of pc, leave the console to the big boys
Halo 5 will release at 900p and 60fps if i had to have a bet on it.
I can realistically see the final build hitting 1080p 60 frames to be honest. By the time Halo gets the SDK's with all the brand new goodies that come with it I can see 1080p 60 frames for the final build.
60 fps, I'm happy with that!
The Destiny beta was 720p on Xbox a few months from release... The game ended up 1080p. I think an inhouse studio with a year left to develop will do better than 792p... Get real.
Go away, Walker. Like, for good. Forever and ever. Nobody will miss you here. Well, that's probably a false statement. Sony fanboys/trolls might. Real gamers won't.
I said that Halo 5 would be the next the next Microsoft lie. Remember, at E3 2013 Microsoft claimed that Halo 5 would be 1080p 60fps. Looks like their lie is being exposed
still a year away from the game. If they can manage to get mostly 1080p, 60fps, 2 separate engines, 110 MP maps, etc on 1 disc, I'm sure they can manage 1080p at 60fps on Halo 5. It's 343 we are talking about, not Ubisoft lol
Quote : still a year away from the game. If they can manage to get mostly 1080p, 60fps, 2 separate engines It's pseudo 1080p, not true 1080p. They use eSRAM ( new engine ) + DDR3 ( old engine ) combination in H2. DDR3 bandwidth can swallow original H2 engine. It is not graphical demanding. Textures and effects are simple. Damn, engine is from first Xbox. Quote : "etc on 1 disc" What about 20GB patch? Full digital is 60GB. @HaydenJameSmith Quote : "...Well resolution usually is finalized at the end of development of a game, so I'm not worried... were almost a year away from it's release so it's safe to say that it doesn't matter what the Beta is running at. Looks Awesome to me so far anyway..." What's up on MrX blog? Don't play "nice guy" here. Can i hope for 720p in Halo 5 in final build just like you hoped for 720p in AC : Unity or COD : AW on PS4??? http://i.imgur.com/qVz5Qw1....
It is going to be 1080p/60fps which MS confirmed even at first E3 of the XO.What is your point? Why do you hate XO that much?
Is that enough? http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...
imt558 - So, you went from an annoying full-on sony troll, to a slightly less annoying stealth troll that tries to downplay the positives and bring up any negative issues on xbox game, while yet giving the games JUST ENOUGH praise to not be marked as trolling? Your comment history is interesting. Why do you hang out in all these xbox articles???? Well...at least you lost the second bubble. That's a good start.
Well to be fair they didn't work on these aspects of the Halo:MCC collection "1080p, 60fps, 2 separate engines" - "All four games – developed as a collaboration between 343 Industries (user interface, online infrastructure, etc.), Saber Interactive (Halo 2 Anniversary campaign), and Certain Affinity (multiplayer) will ship on a single, $60 Blu-ray disc; the individual games will not be available as separate digital downloads. " http://uk.ign.com/articles/... "Yes! We’re working on Halo 3 and Halo 4 with 343 Industries as part of the Master Chief Collection. No! We can’t say much more than that. All enquiries regarding Halo: MCC should be directed to 343, we are very excited to be part of a great project and hope you understand our position in remaining silent on our involvement." - http://www.ruffiangames.com...
Well not too surprised. It's a beta with the game at least 7m+ out. 60fps, no talk about res at the announcement. Still as long as the framerate is steady and runs well at 60fps like they are saying is more important which it is in an FPS thern all is good.
They already said its launching November 2015 so its a year out at the minute
Gameplay comes first especially this early in development which is normal. You get that right then you optimize it to the metal. It's already 60fps. So far it does look really good.
Well resolution usually is finalized at the end of development of a game, so I'm not worried... were almost a year away from it's release so it's safe to say that it doesn't matter what the Beta is running at. Looks Awesome to me so far anyway...
Final game will be 1080
Totally. All they'll have to do is literally double the number of pixels on the screen. /s
Well that's a shame but thankfully its just the beta with the final game still a year or so out. Anyways the game looks pretty damn good so far and the gameplay looks fantastic as well. I don't have a XB1 as of now but I'll wait for this baby to be bundled next year. I will say this though, we better play as MC more than the rumor going around...
60fps is the important part, even if it stays at 720p at least the game will play solidly.
900p seem to be the sweet spot for most graphically intensive x1 games. I'd say halo 5 will most likely be 900p.
I agree with you, I mean i'm past the 1080p hope on XBO, im fine with 900p or the dynamic res they used on COD:AW
720p is all I ask for.
that's a very low bar you have there. What's the weather like in 2004?
720p is not a high enough resolution to be able to fully show all of the detail Halo 5 will likely have. Last gen, 720p was fine for the level of drAw distance, character models, and texture quality the consoles were pushing. However, nowadays, the most graphically intensive games running at 720p is a no-no because that resolution simply won't be sharp enough to be able to accurately portray the level of visuals they are going for. The textures may be higher quality, but the 720p resolution make them appear blurrier. Maybe character models gave highly detailed skin and pores, but all that minutia will be lost at 720p. It will be too blurry to see stuff like that.
It's a beta! no way they'll leave it at 720p. It'll be stupid to do that! this game is still in progress, and won't be out till november 2015 if i'm not mistaken. So while ppl making jokes about it need to stop!
Who gives a damn about the resolution? You can aim down the sight on the Assault Rifle. Let me repeat. You can aim down the sight on the Assault Rifle. The sight, on the Assault Rifle. 343 has gone overboard. The Assault Rifle doesn't even have sights, so they made some up. It didn't need to ADS, that's what the Battle Rifle and DMR are for. http://gyazo.com/20e02d5def...
ruining it! A man loves Halo for running AND gunning not waiting around and making a sight take up the screen and having limited sprint instead of a steadily fast character
Damn, your shtick is getting really old... Worse than the Sasuke idiot and his alternate accounts. Unless that's you as well..
https://www.youtube.com/wat... this makes the perfect case for old-school shooters
Because it made SOOOO much more sense that Master Chief. The single most highly trained soldier in the entire UNSC forces. Exclusively fired an assault fire from the hip. Cause if honestly adding a .5 zoom to the assault rifle is the MAKE OR BREAK thing for you... well then theirs really nothing to say.
As long thats it running 60fps i am good.
Just saw the footage on gamespot. Looks very good to me and fast too but not sure how other halo fans will feel. This may feel a little too cod and titanfall for some. I just can't wait to get my hands on the campaign and see where 343 take the series.Very excited for part 5. Now here's hoping my family gets my Xbox one I've been begging for this Christmas so I can get my halo fix with the collection. *fingers crossed*
Gamestop got lay away bruh.
Regardless of the resolution can anyone really truly dispute that it doesn't look really good? I mean with how nice it looks, who the heck care about the resolution? sure having it be 1080p might make it look better than 720p does, but even at 720p it looks quite nice, and it I definitely want to play it after having seen it... So what's the big deal? Seriously.. resolution is just a number telling you the amount of whole pixels being rendered... pixels... that's it! Did some people forget that art direction/style, lightingn shadowsn post processing, and other things like AA and depth of field do a lot to make up image quality as well? The fact that this looks as clean and crisp and awesome as it does at 720p completely shatters all the Sony fans argument that a game can't look good unless it's 1080p. For example Assassin's Creed Unity. Sure, a game can definitely look sharper and more defined by upping resolution, but if rez is all that mattered, then 343 probably would have gone for 1080p and 30fps like all the past Halo titles have been. Grow up a little and don't worry about rez so much guys, it's one factor of many, and by the time Guardians is out, it could very well be a much higer Rez. The beta looks amazing! And... 7 maps! There is no way to better represent the Killer App of the year- for fun, content, and Value than The Master Chief Collection!
This is the second halo 720p game. I'm sure it can be bumped up
Guys it's a beta a year before release. Stop fearing and acting like this is the final build or something. Wasn't there a beta on PS4 recently that was like 800? Evolve I think.
This isn't the 360... When is MS gonna let the Xbox finally grow up?
Probably around the same time when you stop posting idiotic comments.
You don't have a choice on X1, you will get a lower resolution in order for a game to try to run well. By the way, I'm hearing reports that AC Unity on X1 is horrible: "Xbox One version has kinda poor frame rate and so overall just a bit worse if anything "
Yes, this is true. The devs for this are focusing more on gameplay, making sure their users get the best possible experience. So a lot of fine tuning and tweaking will go into this year long BETA. In that year I am sure the final release of game and multiplayer will be a well balanced, extremely fun game and at a higher res as what the BETA was. More devs should have beta's, don't you think? Then maybe other devs who take an extra year for their product, won't have a game that turns out with less features, 30fps and an online that took nearly a month and a half to fix. Just my opinion though... I also heard the PS4 version is running just as bad. I wonder if MS paid to have both the X1 and PS4 versions of AC: Unity gimped? :P
More resolution bullsh*t, this game is still over a year away plus only people that seem to really care about resolution are Sony fanboys maybe they should have bought a PC.
Its obvious now why they didnt name the console Xbox 720.
