If the Xbox One drops to $299 and the PS4 stays above $350 it may catch up by the end of next year. I really don't see it happening any other way.

EdMcGlone1113d ago

$299 would be really aggressive. I think Microsoft is already going pretty hard by dropping to $350 for the holidays. We'll have to see how that plays out for them this holiday season. In general though I agree staying lower than whatever the PS4 is going for will be necessary to catch up.

xHeavYx1113d ago

The only way someone else can catch up to the PS4 is if Sony does something really, really stupid (and I mean Xbox reveal-like stupid)

Jaqen_Hghar1113d ago

only in the US. Europe is already lost. They were consistently cheaper than PS3 last gen everywhere sometimes by a significant margin ($200) and yet the only place it made a difference as far as leading goes was the US and UK.

tlougotg1113d ago (Edited 1113d ago )

That makes no sense, you really think Sony will let Microsoft keep dropping price and not match a cut if they see their market share losing ground? If Ps4 would stay above 350 it would only be because they are still selling like hotcakes and dont see the need to do so. Off the jump Sony said the Ps4 was profitable so trust meSony is in a position to drop the price when they see fit and just gain little profit or no profit off the hardware and just rely on software profits which they did all last gen with ps3 not being profitable till like its 6th year or so.

Sony...profit??? LOL!!! 😂😂😂

.....soooo I see many are forgetting that PS3 sold more then 360 last gen and was at a higher cost.

MS had the cheaper system....sold less. I don't think anyone is catching up to PS4 this gen. I see it as a done deal right now.

Just based on this would be the 3rd gen in a row Sony outsells MS.

TheWatercooler1113d ago

I seriously doubt it.

I think the wii U will start doing well though. Should come in an easy second.

lelo2play1113d ago (Edited 1113d ago )

I predict the X1 will go for 299€ at E3 2015, probably with a X1 slim, and the PS4 will go for 349€ at E3 2015.

... but no, even if that happens, I don't believe the X1 will catch the PS4. PS4 has most likely won this gen.

Magicite1113d ago

Sega tried and failed, Nintendo tried and failed, MS tried and failed.

ending 30th september:

PS4 13.5 million shipped
xbox one 7.5 million shipped

already 6 million gap. it should be 8 million by the end of year.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1113d ago (Edited 1113d ago )

The gap is on pace to be 9 to 10 million by 01/01/2015

Christopher1113d ago

I'm not sure the gap will widen but remain the same during November/December since MS has dropped their price and offered a free game. After that, hard to tell.

IcicleTrepan1113d ago

honestly think you are grossly underestimating the power of master chief.

Spotie1113d ago

How'd that work out for Microsoft last gen?

I think you overestimate his power.

Kemo_Spear1113d ago

honestly think you are grossly overestimating the power of master chief.

DarkZane1113d ago

Pretty sure most people who wanted the Halo MCC got the X1 already.

Titanfall, the price drop and even that free game in september didn't help the X1.

Safe to say nothing will at this point and the PS4 already won. Microsoft will fight Nintendo for second place.

juaburg911113d ago

Great start with sales, but not stellar exclusives. MS and Ninty are in front of them in that regard, but that will change though

EdMcGlone1113d ago

I agree. As long as Sony doesn't go into a drought they are in good shape to hold the lead.

Eldyraen1113d ago

Which seems unlikely since February is starting next year strong with completely new IPs

This fall is a little light but LBP could shift quite a bit especially for families this Holiday. It is the only real "big" exclusive this Fall but there are a few smaller ones. Sate the kids/family with LBP/Singstar and adults still have older exclusives and third party to keep them busy till February.

Next year, especially around Fall, is when we begin to see true AAA exclusives explode, Uncharted versus Halo in particular--can't wait for both and SO many games next year). A ton of potentially great games will release before then but once those come out the gloves truely come off.

Jaqen_Hghar1113d ago

No they aren't. MS just bunched all theirs into the holiday season to give that illusion. Most of both of their exclusives have been platform exclusives such as MLB, Forza, LBP3, Titanfall, and FF14. Infamous, Killzone, Knack, Driveclub, Forza 5, MCC, TLoU Remastered, and that's just about it for true exclusives as far as disc goes. A man would argue Sony has definitely had the exclusive advantage especially when it comes to the indie department (Resogun) and will soon have the advantage when it comes to free games as they'll be the first to bring AAA games to their free lineup with Injustice.

Software_Lover1113d ago (Edited 1113d ago )

I have Resogun. I think Max Curse of the brotherhood is a better game.

Edit: They are both great games in their own right.

no

No_Limit1113d ago

At this point, who cares. The PS4 will remain on top this generation becuase the PS brand has more following worldwide especially in Japan and Europe. As long as MS and Nintendo continue to do their things like pumping out games and stay competitive, Sony will also be doing the same and we should all be better off. That is why I have a 3 consoles but my PS4 remains my go-to third party AAA system though.

Spenok1113d ago

More or less. There's no way it will catch up unless one, or two things happen. First, MS would have to undercut the PS4 by a huge margin, which wont happen without seeing Sony have a retaliatory drop of their own. And two Sony would have to do something pretty dumb, and I'm talking PS3 launch, Xbone reveal dumb. And honestly, neither of those are likely to happen.
