Final Fantasy VIII: Final Fantasy III Connection Theory

In our harrowing journey to understand Final Fantasy VIII we’ve already broken down all of the elements of the story, theorized over whether Squall is dead from the end of the first disk onwards, and debated the possibility of Rinoa becoming Ultimecia in the future. Well, there is yet another Final Fantasy VIII theory that we haven’t discussed yet: that Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy VIII take place in the same world. The knee-jerk response to such a suggestion might be to immediately write this theory off, but there is something to this.

You're trying too hard. Take the story at face value. Problem solved. If you don't get it, it's not the game's fault. The story makes perfect sense (even if a moment or two are "too convenient").
