Stephen Colbert interviews Sarkeesian in his usual satiric tone, condemning gamergate as the hate campaign it is.
Man, I lost a hell of a lot of respect for Colbert.
I still have respect for him its just that he doesn't know all the lies she makes. I don't think colbert understands our hobby enough to know better.
Well the show is more about political satire than gaming ethnics. So I expected this to happen. Did anyone honestly think he would've came out in support of gamergate and called her out?
Sorry what did she tear down? When the opportunity arose to give specific examples of games that are sexist she just backed away? Right...
I didn't see any "tearing down". All I saw was Anita struggling to answer basic questions, she couldn't point out 3 games when directly asked. Colbert is whatever, he was trying to question her, but not thoroughly because he doesn't have a clue. The main problem is the whole posse Anita brought along who wouldn't stfu.
you respected him? man.. sorry to hear that.
Tell me about it, this is coming from the dude who said this. http://static.fjcdn.com/pic... So I would have honestly thought he would have seen through her agenda.
Well, he did..... satirically.
I still respect him because he has a huge body of impressive work that is worthy of respect. I am disappointed in this interview though. The principals behind GG are what Colbert has made his living off of for over a decade now. He's not prone to shy away from unethical behavior in journalism...hell it's the entire premise of his show. I dunno, maybe he's afraid that if he does address the actual issue's and calls out the feminist on their BS, that it will hurt his new gig with CBS at the start of the year. I'm sure the last thing that CBS wants is a person who is being touted as anti-feminist, and it's only 2 months away for that job to start. If that is the case, then I would lose respect for him, because he's never backed down from any issue because it may bring some controversy his way.
Well this is... Disappointing... As said above, I really like Colbert but lost some respect for him after this.
LOL xD This was hilarious.
Anita Sarkeesian: Profession: Victim Stephen Colbert: Actor - As far as colbert - he doesn't do any sort of investigative work - I was listening to a podcast of him talking about his workday. In order to have more improv moments he doesn't "study" - obviously
Loved this segment.
Since you've been someone I've seen supporting the type of ignorance Sarkeesian promotes, I'm not at all surprised.
Forgive me for supporting the idea of women being treated equally in video games. How silly of me.
Whenever there is a big boobed women, the is always some huge man made of muscle. I just gave you some equality, if you had actually been paying attention over the years you would have noticed it.
Nice! Colbert is the best.
for someone who claims to be an expert on games with misogyny it's funny she couldn't name three
Except for the most generic answer you can get from these people: Grand Theft Auto. lol
If she named three, then the discussion would be about those three games and that's no what the discussion of female portrayal in video games should be about.
I can't believe they disabled the comment section, I wonder why. Lets see how long it takes for them to disable the ratings as well.
What do you expect, they don't want rational thought out people commenting who will make Anita look bad. She has to stay victim or nobody will look her way.
I know, there were so many great comments that refuted almost everything she said and called it how it is. But now all those comments are gone. Some of which had a lot of effort put into them and now no one would be able to see them again.
Did people watch the video, not understand?? Look at his tone....
I watched it. And I kinda get it. lol he was questioning her. but I dont think he knows any better about her lies.
yeah, it kind of looked like he was being his usual, satirical self.
Anita Sarkeesian is a professional CON ARTIST
FWIW- According to people who were at the taping, they taped a much longer segment, and she didn't come off looking so good. But it got edited down.
The full sketch for whoever interested. https://www.youtube.com/wat...
After watching the full video(thx to Rimgul), I don't see how he was any less accommodating to her side of the story. He asked a couple good questions, but when she dodged them, he never followed up or made her answer the actual question. Shame on Colbert for that. It's just not his style, and the whole interview was just to get a few jokes in. She had the nerve to say how GG is reinventing the narrative trying to say they're about ethics in journalism when it's really about misogyny, when that is exactly what the anti-GG side has been doing since day one. On a side note...did they load the audience with SJW? I can't believe his audience would play into the SJW narrative so easily and loudly, when Colbert himself has called out neo-feminism quite a lot on his show.
Am I the only one who thinks Colbert was actually being ironic? Seriously, watch it again. Also she couldn't even name three games, dumb bitch and she kept deflecting every question with the same response pretty much (MUH OPRESSION, MUH WOMEN IN GAMES) and never addressed the question in hand (For example when he asked why she doesn't get games she wants to play be made while he can play the games he wants to play. She had no response other than to randomly blame GamerGate) Colbert actually made a fool of her because he asked really soft questions for the sake of jokes and props which he normally doesn't do and she responded with the same shit every time. This is why you'll never see her in a debate, she can't handle it and she knows it.
I think he was trying to be ironic. I saw every question being softballed so he could follow up with some sort of joke. I don't think Anita came off as impressive in this video, as obviously what she did is what she's been criticized of since the beginning. I guess how well she did depends on what side you sit on. I'm disappointed in the interview because Colbert can actually perform a hard-hitting interview when he wants to. This was just a fluff piece for the sake of laughs IMO. Shame, he would start off as ready to ask the questions that would make her look really foolish and tear apart her arguments, but just didn't follow through.
I don't know about gamer gate, but I doubt it is about women trying to show they are gamers rather telling how game developers are to make games. If a man designer wants his character to be a busty, sexy women so be it. An artist does his best work when he can make what he wants not when he has to worry about being frowned upon or trying to restrict his work to not offend anyone. Same goes for storytellers/writers. As a gamer and someone who is passionate about video games I do not like someone thinking they can come and say sorry you can't do that, I can see some people getting seriously pissed off. As I said I don't know what gamer gate is just giving my two cents after watching the video
Exactly. The thing is, these people that are complaining about the way women look in games fail to notice that men get similar treatment. Look at the characters in gears of war. The look like they are testosterone filled muscle brains built like they could kill you with a single flick of the finger. Maybe i should complain because they are making men out to be oversized, gun loving muscle brains......oh wait, i won't be doing that because i'm not an oversensitive baby looking to push some rubbish agenda that says one sex isn't being treated as fairly as the other.
So sick of this #Gamergate stuff. It just needs to go away.
Then you as a gamer need to stop gaming and go away. This is a way about ethics and conviction. Press away bound developers should not cross the ethics boundary and gamers need to stick to their conviction and not let these individuals get away with this conduct.
I have a right to my own opinion kid. By the way, if you are making a comment at least make sure it makes some grammatical sense next time.
Its sad that you dont support transparency in gaming journalism. Thats the issue here. Anything else is mudslinging by opportunists using twitter trolls to prove a nonexistent issue.
Sorry used my phone and it did some funky auto corrects and I was lazy and didn't proof read. Those aways should either not have been there or just been abouts...sorry. As for your opinion...well you didn't give an opinion you made a statement. All you said was that it needs to go away...you never supported the statement with an opinion so yeah you didnt...leave an opinion. Off your blanket statement I respond in kind with an...actual opinion with supporting points. I was lazy by not proof reading and you were lazy by not even leaving an actual opinion...
no, anita, gamergate is *not* about terrorizing women... jesus christ....
But it has resulted in it.
It's apparent the bigoted, misandrist anti GGs are getting desperate. How many anti GG articles are we going to see trying to push their agenda and proper gander? It's just a pity the mainstream media that's starting to cover this isn't listening to both sides.
Before this video I had never actually heard Anita Sarkeesian speak. With that said, after seeing this, I guess I have no idea what this "fight" is even about anymore. It felt like watching an ex-girlfriend's best friend try to convince a good-but-not-best friend of mine that girls are as tough as boys. And that my ex wont get back with me until I just say it. But I feel its irrelevant to game culture, so I dont say it -or better- I say it sarcastically, and now all the girls at the school are pissed at me and all of my friends. This is all so middle school that I cant even take it seriously, regardless of journalism, feminism, and any other -ism.
That's the problem right there why do Girls even wanna be as tough as boys? You're a girl so enjoy your femininity and make all the boys wanna be with you instead of trying to be tough like a boy and thus start looking like a boy leading to no boys wanting to be caught dead next to you. Sure I'm all for women equality but it comes a time when women need to realize that they are women and instead of trying to be a man they need to be better women. If a girl wants to act like a man then they should get knocked the F out like a man and that will teach them a lesson. Let Troy Palamaluo or Mike Tyson hit them and they will realize they are not men and not meant to endure punishment that doesn't involve a baby. Sure by all means women should be allowed to play sports and have equal rights in the work place but putting women on the same game field as men is where I draw a the line because physically there is a big difference. The girl pitching the little League was cool because of no contact but we all know in 5 years when all those boys begin to grow they all will light her up. Men and women are different and a girl wanting to be tough like boys tells me her priorities as a women are screwed up so therefore trade punches to the face and if she doesn't hit the floor then ok she is tough as a boy lol but then go find you another girlfriend because she is gonna become manly looking lol
I refuse to even address the issue of feminism related to GG. Simply because it isnt related at all. Its very sad that the pro GG campaign has no public figure backing it. These bottomfeeders take trollish comments, insert the related prejudice, and all of a sudden GG is about feminism. Lets not lose sight of the real issue, corrupt journalism. If your pro GG, its up to you to correct the uninformed. Its up to you to keep the movement on track.
I wish Colbert had finished his train of thought when he said "but there are games.. [that have strong female protagonists]" And that he wasn't being completely factious with his entire analysis. But I'm content in believing that at least some of the writers came up with such excellent satire by actually understanding the situation better than more journalists have portrayed it.
"Comments are disabled for this video." Interestly, the only video of Comedy Central with this restriction.
Gamer gate needs to go away and so does this worthless person who has made up a bunch of crap to make a name for her worthless self. More women play Wow The Sims and LOL than men also Gta and COD have large female followings and DotA2 along with Diablo have huge amounts of pro female gamers. I've just listed the biggest games in our industry and every last one has massive amounts of female gamers who are respected awarded and paid just like men. Starcraft has many women gamers who have paying sponsors in its Diamond League and it gets no better than that. Gamers gate is crap. If Anything women who don't play games but use the gaming industry as a jump off to their pron or modeling career are the only females that gamers of both genders hate. Some Chick kicking my butt at Dota2 gets just as much respect as some dude kicking my butt at Dota2.
lmaoooo!! Holy smokes the way dishonesty streams out of her mouth without once breaking character is crazy. The dislikes on the video and the comments section disabled....justice somewhat served.
Colbert is nothing. I'd like to see her talk to Bill Maher and see how she comes out. He seems to have less tolerance for ignorance than Colbert.
I would love to see her and a pro-GG on Real Time. That would be fun regardless of how it turned out. Maher allows his guests to ask questions and makes points for discussion and allows everyone to answer, but will quickly call out BS when it's obvious. He more often than not also knows the talking points on an issue, and he is no fan of neo-feminism or social justice crusades that work the way the SJW have been doing. Sadly though, it would only be entertaining for that section of the program. I doubt Anita would fare well on any other political issue. Might be funny to see her say how the current election results are all because of a patriarchal sexist society though.
What a load of bollocks. Just hearing the audience cheer for her make me want to throw a big shite on her face!
It's funny to see all the pro Gamer Gate people who says it's about "ethics is video game" resort to name calling and other childish remarks about Anita. Honestly don't know why so many of you are surprised to see Colbert ridicule a movement hellbent of harassing anyone that doesn't agree with its views, particularly women.
