Game Idealist compares the features of the PlayStation Silver Wired Stereo Headset and PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset.
I did a lot of searching through various forums and internet pages. I have a Logitech G430 wired headset that does virtual 7.1 surround sound that actually worked on my PS4 via a USB dongle. Problem was, while the cable is in fact quite long (~12 feet) it just doesn't quite reach to my chair I like to sit in, plus I never liked being tethered to the console (tethered to the controller is another thing, as I can still get up and move around). So I finally decided that I would look into a wireless headset. After much searching, I decided I was either going to go for something like the Astro A50's / Skullcandy PLYR1's or the Wireless Gold headset. I ended up going for the latter as I happened to have a $100 gift card to a local electronics store. I had heard reports about the A50's or PLYR 1's being amazing and the best things money could buy (minus a custom setup), however the $200 and $300 price tags were a lot to consider... I fired up the Gold's, not expecting very much and what can I say? wow, I was impressed. I played Destiny with them and I heard sounds I didn't even know existed. And I game on a full surround sound setup so my sound is usually quite good. The headset is super comfortable, and the fact that the mic is hidden is a wicked bonus should I ever want to wear these out in public to listen to music with. All in all I am super happy with my Gold's and I would recommend them to anyone. At that price point, it's hard to beat.
Yeah that's the small but crucial detail people always want to overlook when comparing is the price. For $100 its pretty much impossible to find better unless through some major sale/discount. Everyone likes to breeze over price like "oh but if you just pay $75 dollors more you can get these better ones"
i had a code to get £50 off a £100 spend at a catalogue in uk. i bought shadow of mordor and the gold headset. headset was £85 and game was £45 but obviously i had the £50 off code so i only actually paid £80 for both which was amazing bargain. but im so happy with my gold headset i would of been happy paying full price
I had the pulse Edition Headset and they were too Heavy for me and there was not enough foam over the head to make them comfortable. I wanted to buy another headset but didn't want to dish out another 150$+. I found a discount at bestbuy at 59$ for the gold headset. I would recommend them to everyone, great sound, great batterie life and they are way more comfortable than my Pulse.
Do you wear glasses by any chance? I do and the only thing stopping me from buying a headset is the fact that I feel it might be uncomfortable while wearing glasses.
I wear glasses and use the gold headset and its perfectly comfortable, I don't notice I'm wearing the glasses, like when I'm not wearing the headset. :)
I own this headset also and think it's really good. I used to own astro a40's but was disappointed and found them very uncomfortable.
WHen do these come out? The Silver one's.. Been waiting on these for awhile now.
Amazon says Nov. 1st (U.S.)
Bought the Gold wireless yesterday. I love them. But the ps app for the headphones don't have an setting for driving games? only shooters and then last og us and infamous ect. what about driveclub?
I am sure more settings will release as the games come along. Driveclub has enough to worry about with their servers don't you think? A proper headset mode is probably at the bottom of their To-Do list.. ;)
Your right. Forgot about the problems for a moment. works ok for me :)
Gravity_DoGG - The Racing setting won't be released until futher notice. xD Had to, but man I want to give DriveClub a go. Might be able to try it out via SharePlay though. Awesome feature.
So, where do you connect these? Is there just an option on the PS3/PS4 to produce a simulated surround sound through 2ch stereo on the 3.5mm ? You can pick up the Golds for $80 usually online... and once in a while you'll have deals bringing them sub-$70. I'm considering forgoing the simulated surround sound for a better audio quality... I'm considering something cheaper like the acclaimed bang-for-buck JVC HA-AX700 studio headphones..
Oh nevermind, 3.5mm is just option, so it uses USB just like the dongle for the Gold for VSS.
yep, it's got a USB dongle, but the nice thing is, you don't have to connect an optical audio cable around to the back of the system like some of the other wireless headsets on the market. Doing so is hideous to look at (why Sony didn't include rear USB ports is beyond frustrating. This headset at least keeps the console clean looking with a small USB stick in the front. The 3.5mm cable is for when you want to connect to your Vita or your phone / ipod.
Just like everyone else, bought the gold edition back in April and boy did it make a difference.....Before I was using my PS Vita ear-set and although I must admit they did sound good, I needed to go wireless due the fact that when I walked around the house; the [email protected] cord would get caught on doors. Or if I took a quick break in the kitchen and sat the controller down; I would forget that they were still plugged up an yank both my controller and the vita wired headphones straight to my hard floors. I cant afford to wast money so I got a deal through Gamestop best bang for the buck and my favorite feature is that they actually have specific sound software for big game titles, cant beat that...Highly recommended!!!!
The price is right on the gold wireless. I picked them up when they dropped to 69 on Amazon, I couldn't pass them up for that price, even though I already had the Steel Series H Wireless. The only "bad" thing about the gold wireless is they don't go very loud...they get loud enough, but if you like the sound cranked when gaming, you probably won't be satisfied. They are fine for my tastes though. I also wish you didn't have to connect them to the console via usb every time you want to change sound profiles...but for the price I really can't complain that much about it.
