Brett Paterson talks the advantages of faster memory bandwidth for reading and decompressing audio data.
now, give me a Movie Player please :D With MKV support, and SRT SUbs
And this is why homebrew is ace. If someone manages to get something like XBMC (will be called Kodi in the near future ) you'd have all them decoders and a full media application. Doubt Sony will bring a big range of decoders to the PS4. But eh you can't have it all.
I got a raspberry Pi and case for about $40, put an XBMC SD card in that, and suddenly it's a media center device that puts both consoles to shame!
@uth11 You know, my plane puts my car to shame because it flies... But my car puts my plane to shame because it is able to drive through small tunels... And my cat put both my car and plane to shame because it "meows"!... And those comparations, as your, are so useful! :) I got myself a raspberry Pi too, which I use as a server and XBMC (well, it can't do both at the same time, sadly... becomes too slow), but I don't think it puts any other device to shame... it's small... and that's it... Welp, even decoding mkv @ 1080p is slow...
That makes sense, maybe later down the line with better compression algorithms the video save function can be upgraded to 1080p from 720p smoothly because of this. Kind of like Ustream and Twitch upgraded their stream compression algorithms.
Totally lame article. Unless you have a 24bit, 192khz DAC - who cares.
An MP3 is an MP3 is an MP3. It's still low quality to a true audiophile.
I agree with software lover on this. I also am heavily involved in music production, and let me say there are very good reasons why DAWs dont make any use of GDDR or GPU compute. Ideally you have dedicated audio hardware of some sort (an audio interface, mixer, DA converter, etc.) Also when I do a mix natively in pro tools, its at 88-192 KHZ (depends on my CPU usage by plug ins) and then rendered down to 44.1KHz CD/Mp3 standard. This is common in all pro studios. The moment you are hearing it as an MP3 the quality of the sound is degraded from its original source which was recorded/sampled at a higher sample rate. software lover is correct, that MP3 is low quality by audiophile (and studio) standards. I can confirm this, as somebody who is very much in the know about music tech.
If they don't know they don't know. I usually record at 96/24 (maybe 32 but that is another debate for another day lol). I used to record at 48/24 but once you go above that you hear so much more audio info in the upper ranges that its hard to go back to anything below 96khz. Not to mention some plugins work better at 96khz. When you bounce down to an MP3 or whatever, so much of that top end is truncated and you are left with a sad face....... of course, the client loves it as long as it makes the speakers bump lol.
"but once you go above that you hear so much more audio info in the upper ranges that its hard to go back to anything below 96khz." ^^ this. It becomes noticable after years of mixing! BTW, your avi makes me think you are a cubase user for some reason! :) On a side note: what do you think of the new roland aira range? I was thinking of getting a system ONE...but there is no AAX support! No love for pro tools users! :(
I was trying themes then my ps4 froze and suddenly turned off should I be worried?
I wouldn't worry about it. I had that issue once yesterday, as well. I'm sure it's just a bug. :)
It seems many are facing this issue after the 2.00 update version, thanks for the reply:)
They should be supporting lossless audio formats like FLAC, ALAC, APE.... I mean even computers 10 years ago could support those formats at high bit rates and 24 bit resolution! In-game music support should have been supported day one, just saying.
How'd I know this was a Gaming Bolt article? :)
I love MP3 support, but like everyone is saying, better audio formats would be nice. Also, Spotify and Google Play Music. Music Unlimited is a fine service, but it doesn't have nearly as much music or as many features as Spotify or Google Play Music. Maybe even a Pandora app! All of that would be great! I lost two bubbles over slamming Music Unlimited once. Lol. But I really want more music options.
+bub for being logical
+1 for shunning music unlimited
but..bu..but... GDDR5 is the samezzz as the DDR3 according to some fanboyzzz.. 5000Mhz is the samezz as the 2300 Mhz <--- Is totally the same look people!!! look !!! this number makezz no difference on the PS4 and xbonez!!! 8 GDDR5 is sooooo Equallzzz to 8 GB DDR3 right right ? :D
Do you feel better now?
Good effort! I also type with my face sometimes, but you're a little better at it.
i bet you get stutter when playing games too
So what this mean is that they guaranty lossless compression of an already loss compression MP3 audio files? Like guaranty you that you wont lose anymore from what you have already lost? Good to know
For the record, I can live with a few downtimes and have the best console on the market. Rather have that than buying an X1.
Aren't tasks unrelated to games handled by the extra processor and dedicated audio chip though? shouldn't even touch the 5gb of ram
