A small example of the PlayStation 4 accessed remotely via the Sony Xperia. In this video: Sony PlayStation 4 on FW 2.00, Sony Xperia Z3v using Remote Play app, Dual Shock 4 and The Last of Us Remastered.
Do you know if this is also available for Z2 owners?
I'm getting the Z3 for this!
Not yet but it was confirmed to be coming to the Z2 and other android phones later. Its probably gonna be a Z3 timed exclusive feature but it is coming.
Cheers mate. I had heard rumour that earlier Z devices would get support, but wasn't sure if it was just speculation. Great to hear it's definitely coming. I'm patient ;-)
That's awesome I hope they bring it to iPhone too I know they chances are slim but if MS do it then surely they will have to also do it
If that does happen, it won't be any time soon. This is the sort of feature that sells phones. Septic (^ up there - where he always is..) is getting a Xperia Z3 because of this and so am I. I think they'll use the feature to help sell the (already great!) Z3, since it's come out relatively soon after the last iteration. Once the sales slow, they'll maybe bring it to other Sony phones and then - maybe - to other makes. But as you said, only if their arm is forced by other partnerships and only if MS haven't insisted on exclusivity in their usual inimitable 'style'. That's a lot of ifs, buts and maybes! :)
I never argued the phones quality at all I don't really care about phones but as I have a unlimited 3G internet and unlimited texts with 500 minutes for £26 a month on an iPhone 5 I kinda wanna keep my iPhone // also about the MS comment I wasn't trying to downplay sonys achievement (trophy! I'm sorry XD) but seriously doing this on a phone is amazing I just said MS cause they were talking about bringing their remote play alternative to pc browsers and tablets so I assumed MS would try to one up Sony by adding other brands products to their supported list that would in turn persuade Sony to do the same. I really don't care about Sony or MS I just care about what I can do with products I own *Editted to add the stuff after the //*
I was about to upgrade from my xperia z to the z3 until I read it was planned to bring remote play to the xperia range. It should be awesome on my z2 tablet. Going to hang fire now and upgrade to the rumoured xperia z4 smartphone.
When it says the Xperia range, I believe they mean the Z3 range, since it's definitely been confirmed that this will work on the Z3, the Z3 Compact and the Z3 tablet.
@G20WLY Im pretty certain I read that the z1 sand z2 phone and tablet will be able to access RP when Sony update them to Android 4.4.4 kit kat early next year. Sorry but can't find the link.
You could well be right mate, but I reckon they'll use this as an extra incentive to get sales for the new Z3 range. Once the sales slow down, I expect they'll bring it to the older Xperia models. We can but hope!
I just have one question. Why would I do that? Moving away from my beautiful big Full HD screen to this small, onerous on the eyes, 720p experience. Does Remote play works outside of the house or what is the point of this? Is this for the people, who can not go the toilet, without ever putting down the controller? Most of the ppl would take that as a innovation, which we do not need.
@rakentaja Nah good for the bed bro, after the missus finally falls asleep but hates you not being around even though she is asleep, this is the bomb if you don't have a Vita. Otherwise, I have a Vita and this is pointless unless you are desperate for a full PS4 controller experience, which in that case means to me Sony need to get the controller hook up from PS4 to Vita as an option if required
The point? No1 point will be 'choice' and the rest I leave for you to figure out I am trying it out as we speak (z3 phone and soon to be z3 tablet) I do get dc sometimes, not sure if it's just me or anyone experience the samething
Two things. I find the controls of the Vita at times to be cumbersome for Remote Play (no actual L2/R2/Touch Pad), this uses an actual DS4. Secondly and perhaps most importantly, it's available via any wi-fi connection. I may not use it three feet from my 46" Bravia, but I will when at a freind or relatives home or school/work break, cafe, etc.
For the gamers who said they would buy a phone with remote play or vita capabilities day1 here your chance now. Oh wait they won't support it again
