Blizzard Is Sure That World Of Warcraft Will Last Another 10 Years

Game Lead Designer Ion Hazzikostas believes the game will keep going and there will be the 20th anniversary. "Yes, without a question. I can't tell you exactly what our 20th anniversary celebration event is going to be–maybe new content which hasn't been created–but I can tell you there's going to be one," Hazzikostas told PC Gamer in an interview.

It's a Blizzard game so yeah it's certainly possible. The only ones that could kill the game really are Blizzard themselves but even then there are unofficial servers to play on

World of Warcraft 2 won't happen until the technology to make it MUCH better is available to a majority of people.

So maybe like 6-10 years from now, they might release a new one that would unseat this game and finally get players to move on.

* If they did it now, it would look better but not like " OMG THIS IS AMAZING" type of better.

It needs to have the same impact that the original WoW had, so the longer they wait, the bigger and greater the game can be for everyone.

Yeah, I was pretty amazed when I checked out my time played on my main character to see that I had a total play time of over 4 months... That's 4 months of my life on there, with that single character... Considering I have like 8 more that are fairly high level... Pretty crazy.

I am at 243 days 6 hours 7 minutes and 4 seconds, I just logged in to do /played to find out lol. Thats just on one character though, I have another 4 lvl 90s I didnt wanna check them its depressing.

I barely have 1/4 of that into Battlefield 3. And in it's time span was 2 years... we need better lives.

My total playtime was around 860 days or more, you can count that if you like. :P

I started around April 17th to sometime in February 2011. Cataclysm wasn't exactly exciting.

If Everquest can still be running and releasing xpacs (last released in Oct 2013 and another rumored soon to be released), I'm pretty sure that WoW will last for however long as Blizzard wants it to.

Blizzard just released Hearthstone which has been a huge success an stole a lot of card game players from Magic. And is set to become an esport.

They also got a moba in the works which I'm not into mobas. And Diablo is a beast no other action rpg comes close.

I'm sorry mate you should think before you type. There's a reason Blizzard entertainment has the best mmo out after 10 years still the king.

Blizzard isn't moving out from their safe zone, is what he meant i think. They're still focusing on the same franchises. They haven't actually created anything new from scratch, other than Titan which sounded like a complete failure if the comparisons were true.

They just updated the character models and each expansion blizzard ups the graphics requirements.

It can last but I wonder if they will keep the severs up when they see a sharp decline. They have some stiff competition and alot of people have moved on.

Stiff competition from who? Wildstar failed. Elder scrolls online failed. And Everquest next is free to play so I don't think it's got anything to worry bout thus far.

I've tried many mmos but keep returning to WoW. Cause gameplay wise it's unbeaten. There's been plenty with better graphics tho. guild wars 2 comes to mind.

Everything you said is subjective. Seriously there is no reason for you to even reply and Wow is free to play itself now so its not important by your own logic. By the way there are far more mmo's than the the four you listed, its one of the most popular genres in pc gamming. The fact you think that short list is all there is out there is laughable.

Gameplay wise, the classes have taken a sharp decline in skill use and uniqueness. It's homogenisation across the board, and keeping it as simple as possible.

Its more ridiculous that you think i would attempt to list every MMO in the industry. Im aware that there is many, I grew up on Realm Online and Ultima Online long before WoW ever existed.

Also WoW is not free to play, do your research. Playing for free up tp level 20 when the cap is 90 is not what ANYONE would consider as free to play. Thats pratically just a demo of the game.

Point is I was listing what people considered Recent Competition for WoW which all have failed and look to be going free to play very soon like SWTOR did.

10 more years seems to be a bad thing for them, unless they completely turn things around. Their patching schedule needs a boost, considering they lost 30% subs with one expansion.

Either way, they've completely turned me off with the current class designs, due to simplifying it even more.
