Evil Within Isn’t So Scary After All

The Evil Within appeared to be a promising survival horror title. It’s not a bad game as a whole, but it fails to scare players in a memorable way that’ll make it an all time classic.

This game is what i expected, and is very old school. Love it.

It's what I expected too.. Weak cross-gen graphics, bad FOV, horrible letterbox bars on the screen at all times, mediocre gameplay, a typical lame nightmare storyline with zero to no replay value.. Released unfinished running at 22 fps (average) pre-patched, which I'm sure sucks for those who do not have an internet connection and cannot patch it to a steady 30fps.

I'm not saying it's completely horrible, but lets face it with only 14 chapters in a game which the chapters are much shorter then Shadow Warrior (which is only a $39.99 game) and has 17 chapters, The Evil Within should have been $29.99 at most.

I wouldn't even label this game as "survival horror". It's more of a spooky action adventure game, similar to re4. Ammo can be found in almost every room, I've never had an issue running out of ammo.

Only on Chapter 3 but so far the gameplay feels a little awkward (to me) and I'm really not a fan of the camera. Other than that it seems good so far, a bit confused about the story at the moment but I guess I'll just have to continue playing to find out what's going on.

It's more bizarre and gory than scary, but I pretty much loved all of it.

It is ABSOLUTELY not scary. Making popcorn makes people more scared than it.

Resident Evil games were never scary either though. I love Resident Evil and I love Evil Within too

It was sadly a pretty big letdown for me. I haven't been interested enough to pick it back up. I've put 6-8 hours into it and it's just... meh

Really all I'm getting out of it is "Look at me. Remember RE4? Aren't I like RE4? Love me like RE4!"

I'll finish it eventually, but I'm rather disappointed.

While I enjoyed The Evil Within, I agree that it reminded me of a watered-down version of RE4 to the point where I found myself wanting to play RE4 again instead of continuing the game. When the chainsaw guy showed up at the start, I was like "seriously?"

I just wanted too play a good game and that's what I got. I dumped over 18 hours game time and died 110 times and it was worth every penny.

I was wondering the same thing because it doesn't make any sense at all, if people think the monsters they see in Evil Within are new or different all they have to do is play RE4 and they'll see many similarities in that game right away.

I understand why it got good reviews. But I don't understand how it got so many 9/10s and 10/10s. The graphics are average, the gameplay can be clunky at times, the frame-rate kept dropping, and the story is pretty nonsensical even after you finish the game.

Better games than The Evil Within have gotten far worse reviews in the past.

Evil Within was a really bad disappointment, not even close to being a survival horror game......If you want a true survival horror experience that's scary and fills you with panic, fear, making your heart beat 100x a min, having you on the edge of your seat and your sweating bullets to stay alive....

Look no further than Alien Isolation, a REAL survival horror game.

Great game, not scary though. If you want genuine fear, get ALIEN ISOLATION, amazing!
