Resolution Gate, Does it Still Matter?

“You never know just how you look through other people’s eyes.” is a lyric from one of my favorite songs from the 90’s, but a thought popped into my head while listening to this long lost song from my childhood. Could this be the deciding factor in the thing gamers have called resolution gate? Will people form an opinion based on their own thoughts before even giving the other system a chance?

the PS4 sales say hi and 1080p is more than 900p so yeah it does matter, consoles are same price and PS4 still outselling it people want the best console, not the weaker one.

So I take it.you owned the original Xbox and not the ps2 and you have a 2k gaming pc

rdgneoz33465d ago

The PS2 came out a while before the xbox (original), and it had a huge library of games and series from the previous gen. Xbox was the first try by MS at the market and wasn't as established as the PlayStation brand.

This time they both came out at the same time. Only differences are the hardware (both use the same architecture / easy to program for). Hell, the Wii U had a year head start and because of hardware (which in turn is turning away some devs - no Far Cry 4, Arkham Knight, etc), it's having to compete for 2nd place.

Overall, people like good bang for their buck. And at the start, the $100 cheaper console also had better graphics. And the same company didn't try to screw over it's customers (always online, no used, "want an offline console, go get a 360", etc) .

the ps2 had a huge library compared to xbox, now that 3rd party publishers release almost every game on both ps4 and xone, the major differences between the 2 are power and exclusives.. so yes, specs are one of the deciding factors for the informed customer this gen, when buying a console.

''The original xbox''...the one that sold like 30mil only?...ahhhh...ok;)

geddesmond3465d ago

Yeah how many exclusives did the PS2 have that could be only found on the PS2?? Some of those exclusives are still popular today even though they have gone multiplat. Todays gaming isn't bringing dozens of third party exclusives to the X1 to cancel out the lower power.

Dude, most people have no idea if games run at different resolutions. If you think the average console owner is counting pixels then you are in for a treat.

MasterCornholio3465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

I believe that having a good performance is better than having a higher resolution. However if a platform can have both then I dont see a problem with it.

If system A runs a game in 1080P at a rock solid 30FPS while system B runs the game in the same framerate at a lower resolution I would choose the game on system A because its better.

MasterCornholio

I Simply agree.

OB1Biker3465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

Yea I think most people dont even follow gaming news regularly but it still allows Sony to advertise their console as more 'powerful' and that people are bound to notice

ainTgoTTime2bleed3465d ago

If you think the average tv owner is not counting pixels then you're in for a treat...lol...yeah, people go to stores and say: nah i don't care if it's 720p or 1080p...../s

agree when X360 was around with the better multiplatforms ..even whole sites have been created that made comparisons for the multiplatform games (only when they were better on X360)...now all say the resolution doesnt matter ...it matters and it matters a lot i dont want buy an underpowered console to play crappy COD and halo

And what side did Sony fanboys take? Did you forget about all the claims about Cell?

When 360 games outperformed PS3 games, according to Playstation fans, it was the lazy developers' fault (Rockstar must be so lazy) and there were no noticeable differences. No credit was given to 360 for outperforming the PS3. You guys couldn't even accept that it was possible and when it happened it was a mistake.

Yeah, okay. All I see are double standards on both sides.

In the end, minor differences do not break or ruin your enjoyment of a game. It didn't last generation and it won't this generation. Did it stop you buying GTA or any of the other games that performed worse on PS3? I sure hope not. It's so petty.

donthate3465d ago

I thought having games that work is more important than counting pixels.

You may have 1080p at 30fps on DriveClub, but the online was pure crap for weeks.

I think PS4 owners should demand better platform than resolution in my humble opinion.

I just lol remembering the people like more commercial while reading Cervantes comment

gangsta_red3464d ago

Interesting that nobody cared about 1080p when PC "elitists" kept coming into articles all last gen!

Then it was all about the games!

But once again, the flip flopping and back tracking has continued, noooow it's important, now it's the end all be all of any conversation.

Nobody complained about resolution when they were playing their PS3 exclusive games! Not one sony fan on this site even noticed or cared.

Now all of a sudden resolution equals high performance and a must and everyone can suddenly notice the differences. Hilarity!

I thought people were finally accepting the numbers, but then ubisoft had to come out and start the whole thing all over again.

Spenok3465d ago

It is a noticeable difference. However most people don't even know there IS a difference. Also, if you don't have to two side by side you wouldn't be able to see it anyways. So in my opinion no, it shouldn't matter. Though, if a system can support a resolution, you should NOT hold it back in favor of parity. Take full advantage of what each system is capable of. Period.

Robearboy3465d ago

It never has mattered, the visual difference between the 2 consoles are like the last generation, very marginal and all gamers should embrace the great new games we are all privileged to play, the sad fact of life is that it's human nature to compare the size of our penis' and to argue about anything and everything

matters bc it generates hits for websites.
