It could be one of the best games available on PlayStation 4, but is that enough to prompt a hefty sales spike? Does the game have enough pull?
Only time will tell
Any exclusive game can be a system seller, it's only a matter of how many people will be motivated to buy that console for any particular game. In other words, any exclusive game will likely help sell a console to somebody. It's just a question of how many any particular game will help sell. We won't know until the game is released and we see how much of a boost PS4 sales receive.
Truth. I can see this selling SOME systems, but nothing major. Obviously the Xbone has Dark Souls fans. And some will buy a PS4 so they can play this game. As will some who just haven't jumped into next get yet. However, I don't expect to see it increase numbers like God of War, Gran Turismo, or Uncharted would. But hey, who knows.
I see this selling more bundles in japan than anywhere else, but this will easily add to the line up of great games. Remember Demin's Souls came first and shook the gaming world. DARK SOULS got more people in. Now Sony is sort of roping those fans back with this exclusive, for one I think look pretty epic.
I definetly think so
I think it will move consoles in Japan, which is very important.
I see a ridiculous amount of comments saying waiting for bloodborne to get a ps4 so i think it will sell systems.
A man thinks so. There's been significant press for it and a lot of people have said they're waiting. Sony would be wise to continue its bundling trend come February.
Every exclusive has the potential to be a system seller to someone.
Yeah, that's what I thought as well. If a certain game is really interesting to you and it's only on one particular platform then that game might contribute to you buying that system. Even pretty mediocre games are likely system sellers to somebody. The only question is how many consoles will a particular game help sell.
It's one of my most anticipated ps4 games. That and mgs5 and FF15. Those three games alone will make 2015 one of the best years in gaming in recent years. Not to mention Zelda U and halo 5. Our poor wallets won't know what hit them :(
it won't be a major system seller, luckily the PS4 does not seem to need one
Exactly my thought
It can always sell faster, right? Besides every new game brings in a new group of people to the system. Right now, that hardcore Souls player is not there yet. They're probably still on their PS3's or X360's spilling blood in Dark Souls 3.
I think it will be a huge system seller and bringing a lot of people to the genre. Also just imagine the marketing if its done well
With Dark Souls 2 at or near 2 million in sales you have to consider the install base for PS3 and Xbox 360 which combined is around 165 million. The sales are pretty small. This style of hardcore game is still fairly niche but getting bigger. It'll definitely be a good game and the people that are into it will surely love it but I cant see it pushing a lot of system sales.
believe it or not, the souls community and beyond want this. the neogaf thread when it was first leaked got like 1.5 million in a few days, and everyone in the thread was screaming XD
I know that the majority of my friends list are getting on this. Think it'll be much bigger than people think. The graphics alone are stunning, which is what happens when games for PS4 aren't held back.
I don't think it'll pull Destiny numbers or anything but should still move a few consoles.
Reading around the interwebs, the souls games and the like have a decent following and a lot of folks will be looking for a soulesque game for current gen. In this cause, yes it could be a system seller. The alternative would be Lords of the Fallen for Xbox One and PS4.
It will have its cult following but the true system seller is Uncharted 4 for PS4 next year. Having said that, I can't wait for this game to come out.
I don't think it will set the world on fire (like GT7, God of War, Uncharted) would....but I'm sure it will move some units. I think Little Big Planet 3 could push more....with men convicing girlfriends and wives: "this is for us!"
It will sell. Not the last of us numbers but it will surely sell quite well. Played the alpha yesterday btw. Holy smokes what a game. Cant wait :-D
Let's just say it adds another 100,000 to overall sales for the month it comes out.
I think Bloodborne will ultimately be system-selling quality, but probably won't be a system seller. Gamers these days don't really like to go for the difficulty FromSoft throws down. Unfortunately, I think it's going to end up like the others being a niche title. Then again, this one is getting more attention than any of the Souls titles ever did in terms of hype and maybe even marketing. I think if gamers were all about painful difficulty, it would be, but I think those of us who do thrive on this are in the minority.
I loved Demon's Souls as much as anyone, and all the difficulty talk in the previews made me want it that much more. I secured that collector's edition as soon as possible. That said, I'm really surprised to see all this hype for Bloodborne. The Souls games have never been huge titles. They have a very strong community, and they are great games, and Bloodborne definitely looks to continue that trend, but I never would think to call it a system seller. If it happens, great news for them, From Software deserves it. I'm just really caught off guard by all the biggest hit of 2015 or best PS4 game or best next gen display thus far articles, especially with Uncharted also realsing next year. Oh well, I know I'll be playing it in a few months anyway. Hope there's a theme for it.
Since Dark Souls it became relatively mainstream.
Really the game can sell itself (And it is doing that well). but, I hate over-hyping... People really need to stop doing this kind of stuff...
Obviously it will boost PS4 sales worldwide. Bloodborne is the 1st next gen game in Souls family. People who love Demon's / Dark Souls surely will get a PS4 just to play Bloodborne. Also, so far Sony spent a lot of of marketing for Bloodborne. Just look at how huge Bloodborne booth in TGS. I'm sure some newcomer will pick PS4 because they interested to play Bloodborne.
I don't know man. Most people I know (a few withstanding) already have PlayStation 4's in anticipation of Bloodborne. I'm not sure how many it'll sell. Boost, sure, but I don't think it's going to do Destiny numbers.
"Most people I know" Well most people YOU knew. In my side, i had friends that saving up their money to buy a PS4 when Bloodborne released. "but I don't think it's going to do Destiny numbers" I never said Bloodborne will do Destiny numbers and we don't need Sherlock Holmes to find that are we? I mean, we all knew which one is more popular / sell better between FPS who got 500 million budget and action-RPG that only target hardcore gamers.
@ Inception Take it easy, that wasn't meant to be taken offensively. When I say "most people I know", I'm speaking in terms of statistical inference, meaning in my experience, I was hoping to give an accurate portrayal of Bloodborne as a system seller based on a sample of my associates. I still think I'm right though since the Souls games barely put a dent in the install bases of the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360 (though it did do >1 million with combined territories). I also think you mistook my statement of it doing Destiny numbers literally when it was, in fact, hyperbolic. Come on, I'm actually very reasonable. The odds of an exclusive doing multiplatform numbers are practically nonexistent and I'm very well aware of that. That was just me saying "I don't think it'll be a big hit and crazy success that every PlayStation gamer will know about and buy into the hype".
souls games arent very popular. Most casuals will stay away given the games are hard. only way it sells is if people like the horror look of it. edit: last time I looked souls series hasn't passed 5 million off 3 games
Well, it remains to be seen how widespread the marketing will be. Will NA, EU, and Japan get some kind of marketing push? Will all regions receive a bundle like Destiny (Pushed 300k bundled consoles in Sept in NA alone). The game has a nice sized market. It's just up to Sony to make us want it.
it is for me
All I know is that at the very least one PS4 will be bought the day this game comes out.
For sure it will but not to the level of more accessible franchise such COD or the like. THis hardcore game after all and you'd better prepare for it coz you gonna die more than often.
Personally if Bloodborne turns out to be brilliant as I suspect it will be then I will have to buy a PS4, I don't have a choice in the matter, Dark Souls 1 was that good. I have no other reason to buy the console though so part of me hopes it ends up crap, only part of me though!
Demon's Souls is my #1 favorite game of all time. After the alpha for Bloodborne, I'm not sold on it being as good, yet. I like Demon's Souls for a lot of reasons, I mean, a game doesn't become someone's all-time favorite for no reason! Bloodborne is similar in a lot of ways, but at the heart of the matter is that it's a different game. Dark Souls WAS Demon's Souls. Essentially, I mean. Mechanically, gameplay-wise, there is no difference. Dark Souls is to Demon's Souls as GTA Vice City was to GTA III. They are obviously the same thing, even if they aren't set in the same place or have the same characters or back story, you know what I mean? The "technically different" IP doesn't make a difference, because at their hearts and souls they are one and the same kind of experience, while Bloodborne is not, and frankly, I'd prefer another game in the exact mold of Demon's Souls, and Bloodborne ISN'T that, BUT it is still a game I look very much forward to and can't wait to try the full version!
I would have bought any system it was released on just to play it. Luckily it's on Ps4 and have been a happy day 1 owner so no need to spend cash on another system is really don't want.
