Bungie to address Destiny's Iron Banner controversy: 'Power Matters, but so does skill'

GameZone: "When Bungie announced The Iron Banner for Destiny, they emphasized "gear means everything." After all, the week-long event is said to be the "true" Crucible test as it removes the automatic balancing that's normally in place. In theory, the Legendary and Exotic weapons and gear you've farmed for should make a difference, giving you an advantage over those who wield only Rares. For many, though, that doesn't seem to be the case."

lol, IKR

Here I have all this gear, almost maxed level and my weapons fully upgrade and I am getting beaten by low level characters with very common gear. I thought Iron Banner was gonna be a Cluster F filled with OP, high level, and hard to get gear, when all you really needed was a fresh starter character.

FullmetalRoyale3485d ago

Well, learn to shoot better.

ChronoJoe3485d ago (Edited 3485d ago )

Get good then?

You still have an advantage, yet you're still getting wrecked by low levels? Give up or get good, no need to cry about it.

Nitrowolf23485d ago (Edited 3485d ago )

It has nothing to do with that, it's why even have bother with preparing and grinding for gear, when the default stuff is basically the same. It kind of defeats the purpose, no one is asking to have god mode, they are asking for the gear to actually matter. And don't say it does, there's plenty of proof on you tube saying otherwise

Iron banner is basically clash, just as combined arms is. Meaning they aren't any different than the non event modes, if anything almost pointless aside from the rnd gear

SINISTERGENESIS3485d ago

Don't worry about the idiots below they obviously didn't get the point you were making , btw I agree what's the point of maxing high level gear to accommodate this specific mode if people that get low level gear and have the same effect

DarthZoolu3485d ago

I can tell the difference. People dropped fast in Crucible, and are dropping faster in I.B. I also kicked guys around on my lower lvl hunter, but that's from skill not just gear. Skill beats all in every game.

the guy in the video got constant head-shots avoids fire and moves with back-up teammates, he should put his lvl30 gear on and do another video .

N311V3485d ago

My exact thoughts. He had very good aim and was backed up the whole time. I'm not great in the crucible and heading into Iron Banner with level 24 gear hasn't made me much better.

Baka-akaB3485d ago (Edited 3485d ago )

I waiting for the part where it's a bad thing that others can still compete with you , and more skills being required .

For weeks people have been hiding being the excuse that the people beating them in pvp just had better gear instead of skills ... and now with everything unbridled and people still killing uber geared players , it's the reverse complaint ?

I get that the mode is supposed to make exotic shine further ... and they do . Never meant it wouldnt require some skills and that we'd be unkillable

Lawboy23485d ago

I think some of you guys are missing the whole point of what iron banner was suppose to be...it was supposed to be a very unbalanced game mode which is why we were told to grind so hard because the loot and gear would be useful...but instead u have lvl 4 (no mater how good) raping everyone...and it's confusing

--Onilink--3485d ago

i find that whole video that sparked the controversy complete BS. If you look closely, not only is he 90% of the time with someone else next to him, but that other player has a freaking VEX MYTHOCLAST.

No wonder everyone dies so quickly.... You can even see in the later parts that a rocket launcher to a campers face doesnt kill him

Baka-akaB3485d ago

And you are just missing the part where we disagree about you having no advantage or not enough of those . So you aint godly ... you still got far better chances than the "have not".

Let's not pretend those videos present the picture you depict

Lawboy23485d ago

What do you make of this video

https://m.youtube.com/watch...

He shows the same damage occurs with same weapon on a lvl 27 and a lvl 19...can u explain this

Jozinho3485d ago

You can be dealing the same numbers on all enemies, but some will drop quicker. Crit numbers don't have to change.

joab7773485d ago

It's not just that. There's no real incentive to do it.

But the problem w making this a weekly event is that everyone will want to do it. Then, if level 29 is OP, so many will bitch that they can't participate.

Either it has to be a mode, not an event, or they need to match levels.

This game needs a shot of some serious TLC and quickly. I admit I had a blast with it for the first two weeks. But I haven't touched it since and it seems to be dwindling among people on my friends list as well. The first few weeks I'd easily have 19 out of 20 friends (give or take) on PSN and playing Destiny...now whenever I sign on its closer to 3 or 4 still playing (and 90% of that time I see them in Orbit or the Tower).

This game had SOOO much potential but it seems like Bungie just dropped the ball...and then ran screaming from it. I hope in the coming weeks/months they fix the issues and add the rest of the game back into it. The foundation is solid, they just forgot to put the house on top of it :/

ABizzel13485d ago

Bungie has been super slow about adding new content into the game. After the first week people were already looking for Light Armor to upgrade to higher levels, after Week 2 there were tons of Level 26's - 28's who were simply looking for Ascendent materials to level up. And they've done nothing to keep those players interested which is why most left.

You get tired of doing the same old strikes, bounties, and missions over and over and over, then you had the broken loot system (which is better, but still not compatible with how fast people are running through the content).

It's just a completely unblanaced game when it comes to rewarding the player. People have run through the content, yet rewards are at a supreme minimum for it, which can be a serious turnoff for the majority of gamers. I was in multiple strikes yesterday getting my Vanguard points from 30 to 100. I played a total of 12 matches, and out of all that I only got 2 purple engrams, On turned out to be a Titan Helmet (I'm a Warlock), and the other turned out to be a gun. I was ALWAYS the top scorer in each round, yet several times the worst player ended up getting 4 items to my 2, and one even got an Exotic Gun, Strange Coin, and 2 other items while I got a Titan Glove and a Warlock Bond engram.

That's annoying, and it doesn't make you want to "GRIND" harder to good gear, it makes your anticipation for a new game to save you from grinding for hours.

It has a solid foundation, but if Destiny 2 ever comes out it needs some serious work, and at least 10x the content DAY 1.

DigitalHope3485d ago

I agree about running the content with little reward. Been through VoG 3 times and have one weapon to show for it. Always get shards and energy. FML

KwietStorm_BLM3485d ago

How do you know most players left?

martinezjesus19933485d ago

Isnt that what happens with most games tho? This gen I saw it happen with Watchdogs, Diablo 3, Infamous, and Titanfall. The last 3 being very good games. Most of the people on my friends list are still playing this though and its a month in. I personally dont see myself stop playing this anytime soon, and i believe my friends are on the same page with me, that includes friends that had stopped gaming for a while because they had become "resposible adults" xD Destiny got me back my gaming budies!

Baka-akaB3485d ago (Edited 3485d ago )

Nah it's not the same . For starters those games are usually "complete" already . They arent sold with the promise of more regularly added content . Right now , even if you play leisurely once every moon , you've accessed most of the content , save the raid and some timed "events"

We are now past the honeymoon and launch period . And while i appreciate there were/are technical issues to fix first ... it's time to deliver on the content , mmo or not .

They can't seriously expect people to patiently wait december for the first paid dlc for better new content . And if they do , as much as i like the game , they are in for a rude awakening

itisallaboutps3485d ago

If bungie was a person i would have slapped it 20 times across the face for every common sense mistake they made.

Its like they hype everything but they are too lazy to code it that way or just stupid.

You know that map on skirmish the glass something. Why not give us that map on a 6v6 deathmatch it would be chaotic and super fun. But nope bungie wants a bunch of super mature people playing their game in a super perfectly world of theirs

DigitalHope3485d ago

I'm level 28 with decent gear and I run positive KDR all day long. I have not been smoked by lower level characters unless I'm up against 2 or more. The only time I seem to lose a game is when my team is filled with lower levels or I'm up against the Vex Mythoclast (saw a guy score 11k with it).

Being a high level character doesn't mean you get a pass.

They are right. Gear matters, but skill matters more. If your getting stomped by lower level characters in IB maybe the IB isn't for you.

Noba3485d ago

Even the regular playlist skill doesn't really matter. AR are super op and anyone can run around with a shotgun.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter331d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell331d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig331d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast331d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g331d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka331d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai482d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface481d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard479d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
