People Won't Use Amiibos as Intended

CCC Says: "I'm concerned about Nintendo's Amiibos. I know, it's premature to be thinking about them. They haven't even been released yet, and major game support for these NFC figures won't even kick into gear until 2015. Still, there's something nagging at me, based on my extensive experience with the Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and Pokémon Rumble U toys. I don't think people will use Amiibos as intended.

What? Wait, no! I didn't mean it like that! Minds out of the gutter!

I believe Amiibos aren't going to end up being as essential, impressive, and revolutionary as Nintendo may lead us to believe. I think that, instead, people are going to pick these up as a novelty item to put on display. They'll grab their favorite, iconic characters, because this is going to be one of the first times such quality toys will be released worldwide."

I will use Amiibos to fight against the figures of Skylanders and Disney Infinity.

Totally different games dude. I think Nintendo is pretty much expecting this it'll still make them tons of money regardless if people use these figurines for what they were intended. ;)

i am really much into gimmicks like this, especially because amiibo is a hybrid game/toy which will appeal more to the young audience.
i dont think SSB is a game for kids cause the fanbase is 20+ years old.

I wonder when Sony will follow suit..

Nintendo created Amiibo so they can make money. They will sell probably around a million total by the end of the fiscal year, which if you assume they cost $4-5 to make at $12 sell price around 8 million in the bank. Then when you consider Nintendo will sell more overtime and increase the value of their games it gets even better.

These are high quality figurines, at least in detail, many will buy them for looks because they do look great. With Smash Bros people will have their favorite character, will buy a figurine, and with that purchase Nintendo can help facilitate their business.

Whether you buy them for looks, functionality, or both, Nintendo wins. I believe full and well Nintendo knows what they're doing, this is all intended (or else their figurines would look average).

Try less than a dollar for actual material/production/packing/sh ipping costs/Tax (China). Maybe add $1.50/unit for R&D/Design/Advertising costs.

Bhuahahaha1083d ago

yup most will put it on their display cabinet
same thing as ive seen people do this(youtube) to infinity and skylander

FarEastOrient1082d ago

I don't even have the infinity game, but I do have the statues

doesn't matter. If it make Nintendo money.

Provided they give me a compelling reason to use them I will. Can you battle just one of your Amiibos on screen or can you have each one fill a spot? If they take up all three match spaces these can put up better fights than plain CPU opponents. In that case it would be worth training them.
