Assassin's Creed Unity Xbox One hands-on: Co-op is here and it is spectacular - Examiner

The Assassin's Creed series is one that has seen six full console releases since it originally debuted back in 2007 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It's a world that many, many gamers hold close to their hearts; and one that has allowed us to take many different trips through history in a manner unlike any we've seen before.

This year is particularly unique for the Assassin's Creed franchise because we have two of them releasing on the same day, Assassin's Creed Unity and Assassin's Creed Rogue. The former is the one in which we recently had the chance to go hands-on with via the Xbox One.

We keep complaining about resolutions when the graphics are actually the best of 2014...I think it outperforms Ryse.

Not played an Assassins Creed game since the first one but this one is really seems really interesting. Keeping an eye on it.

1080p is just a number.

The game still plays at 1080p, but it is using the upscaler to get there. It's the details and texture quality that makes the differance. As texture quality increases, native resolution will decrease which isn't a bad thing. The upscaler was added to the APU on both consoles for a reason. I applaud Ubi for making the game smarter with the AI instead of focusing on looks alone. A smart game is much more immersive than a pretty one.

Upscaled 1080p is not 1080p native. It upscales 900p to 1080p, which isn't as sharp or less blurry compared to native. It isn't just a number. You're a casual and an unintelligent fellow f you think resolution doesn't matter.

Death1413d ago

Then I am a casual and unintelligent person. I'm ok with that. If you can get more texture detail and higher resolution, that is fantastic. If resources are limited and I have to choose I will pick more detailed textures that are upscaled to a higher resolution every day. The quality of the textures are much more noticable than native resolution. Upscalers in game consoles are not the same as upscalers in your DVD player. They don't just stretch the picture by duplicating pixels, they can intelligently fill in the missing pixels to create a higher resolution image.

Both GT on the PS3 and Driveclub are 1080p games. Do they look the same to you? I can see a noticable differance and it's obviously not the resolution. It's the quality of the textures.

Exactly. The graphics are absolutely astonishing, even at 900p.

starchild1413d ago

I agree. I keep saying Ryse on PC will be have the best graphics of any game when it comes out, but I suspect that it won't be for very long. I think AC Unity will probably be the best looking game this year. The detail, scale and density is unparalleled.

Of course it's the Xbox One version. Now all that parity talk and debates-avoiding makes sense doesn't it..

It'd be kinda tough to market the game for a certain console when there's a superior version coming on the other competing console..

"Of course it's the Xbox One version"

Huh? If I'm not mistaken, MICROSOFT showcased gameplay live at E3. I actually think it was the first game shown off at their E3 2014 conference. I think all the footage we've been shown of this game thus far, has always been the Xbox one version. I could be mistaken though, but I do remember seeing the co-op gameplay during Microsofts E3 conference.
