Netflix Streaming Numbers Down on Game Consoles.

While video game consoles are still reportedly the most common method of streaming Netflix on their TVs, the systems are utilized much less to watch movies and TV shows compared to the past couple of years.

According to a new study by market research company GfK, people are using Smart TVs and plug-in devices (Chromecast, Apple TV, etc.) to access Netflix more and more, which is most likely leading to a decrease in usage on game consoles. For instance, only 43 percent of people stream Netflix through their game consoles this year, which is down 5 percent compared to last year and 20 percent since 2011.

for me personally, i did not care for the time it took for newer content to be made available to stream. it was bad enough that studios made the service have to wait 28 days after new releases hit the shelves before netflix could allow you to rent them but their amount of new online content was just feeling more and more restricted.

I have not been a member of netflix for almost a year now. i keep getting the emails asking me to come back but i have found that I just didnt use it enough as much as i did when it first started. I just....lost interest.

the netflix numbers are down bc we actually have new games to play all the time!!

JoGam1384d ago

Not just that, but people are sharing accounts.

Yeah I think it's mainly those two reasons alone.
1. Lack/ delayed content on Netflix
2. People gaming more :-) cause I sure as hell didn't get a ps4 to watch Netflix.

It's the content just old tv shows actually think I'm dropping Netflix just not worth it anymore. Have Amazon prime for the shipping and the shows they both have are comparable.

Not to mention that there are other streaming services now. Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, WWE Network, Redbox, HBO Go, Crunchyroll, etc. There's a lot of competition that Netflix has to contend with (I do a good bit on Hulu), and thus, you have to figure in the competition taking some of that pie.

This is funny since MS used Netflix as a reason why they moved toward the entertainment side originally w xbone, saying that ppl streamed Netflix more than doing anything else.

They were a step behind, not understanding that tech and entertainment move very fast, while gamers just want the best gaming machine they can get. They will figure out how to watch their movies etc.

So people are using their gaming consoles to play games? What an idea.

43% is still huge when you consider that Netflix is on anything with a screen.

They only looked at Netflix - Overall consoles blow other devices away when it comes to streaming. Maybe if Netflix rotated their movies out more then more people would be watching. I've turned mine off until the next season of house of cards

I think it's more that there are a lot more options on what device to use to watch these things. Just because the percentages are down doesn't mean that less people are actually using their gaming devices to stream, just that more people are now watching on some other smart device.
