Geeks At Large Metal Gear Solid 4 Review

Well, one of the biggest gaming releases of this year recently came out… no I'm not talking about Grand Theft Auto IV, it's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots! This game is of course made out of the master mind of Hideo Kojima, and is available right now for the Playstation 3. 9.8/10

How the hell do you discern between a 9.5 a 9.8 or a 9.3 out of an subjective opinion!

Clintos, unfortunately no fanboy will agree with you because they need the extra .01 to say that their system got the better version. Like the reviewer really knows what those extra tenths of a point means.

All that a review should do is say whether or not the game is worth renting, buying, avoiding, or is a must own cant miss title. The 5 point system is perfect for that.

someone should really time what's the total on cutscenes, because i keep hearing that there's more cutscenes than gameplay
and i know i played more than watch... out of 26 hrs that took me to beat the game it felt somewhere between 7-8 hrs of cutscenes, that left me with 18hrs of game play, i don't think that too bad..

I would say including the Epilogue theres about 9hours of cutscenes.

However if you rush through the game and shoot more than sneak it will make up half the game.

It all depends on how you play the game

I love the fact I am close to beating the game shooting away, with really no unlockables.... now I read about all the easter eggs/unlockables and I can replay with a total new sneaky style. I think this is awsome.

I watched more than play. I know that. And you can beat the game in under 5 hours (this is how you get certain emblems, I saw a pic of one person beating it in under 4)

The cut scenes in acts 4 & 5 are sooo long. I loved every minute though.

This is one of those games where the amount of gameplay is decided by how you play. There is so much you can do and different ways you can get through each area that it is ridiculous.

I watched the bluray disk that came with the limited edition last night. It is actually very entertaining and confirms that there is about 8 to 9 hours of cutscenes.

It took me exactly 26 hours and 15 minutes to complete so that would be about 17 to 18 hours of gameplay, which is two, sometimes, three times more than most games this gen. This game totally rocks!! i am going to play again on hardest level and sneak my as* everywhere and get the eastereggs. WooHooo!

PS Who else thinks that the final boss was freaking epic!!!??

Towards the end of the fight I couldn't tell what was cutscene and what wasn't so I just stood there not punching until I realized i had to press the button!!! Just Epic!

Did anyone else try and change your controler from 1 to 2 when you played screaming mantis and octacon came on saying you can't do that anymore. That was f@cking awesome. I was lmao after that. Just such a great game.

Very solid review
I agree with him 100%. The game is near perfect and I agree with him that there could have been either some larger maps for more gameplay, or some shorter cut sceenes. This is a very epic game and am already starting from scratch a 2nd time through to take my time and scour the arenas. A 9.8 is a perfect score for MGS4. Which just goes to prove the point that GTA and Halo3 did not deserve 10's!

You change the typical methods of playing the game by rushing and skipping cutscenes to achieve those end times just like any other game. Its not indicative of the amount of gameplay compared to cutscenes.
