DeeJ Hey, Bungie Community. I hope you had a nice weekend. We noticed that you noticed that we already have plans for upcoming content packs in Destiny.
Rightttt ¬_¬ wish gaming was like before. Ever since online got introduced it made it easier for the consumers to get screwed
Exactly. Gone are the days when you could buy a game and get the WHOLE game. I should've expected Activision to screw up Destiny somehow...
Yeah, like buying Perfect Dark or Donkey Kong 64 and getting the whole game ¬_¬. Like Shenmue not needing the "memory card" to keep playing past first disc. Yeah, this is totally new. The only difference is digital now.
I remember the first game (that I can recall anyway) that had DLC on consoles. SOCOM 2. You needed that big ass HDD you screwed on the back of your PS2 and the map packs were $5 each (came with OPM). Not only was the DLC 1/3 of the price, the game also shipped with 22 maps. 22!!! That's what you call justified DLC. Not this garbage.
It's a fucking MMO. Seriously ... this shit is gated for a reason. They could have just as easily charged everyone a monthly fee and kept everything off the disc and released it when they wanted. Instead they load the art assets and other static locations on the disc since it's all part of the world they've created, while they continue to work on the content itself.
@thekhurg You absolutely hit it on the head! I don't see why people have such a hard time understanding that.
Wow, I never thought of it that way. It is true though, games used to be complete and full of value before online. Made DLC easier to distribute. Sucks, because online play is one of my favorite additions to gaming, now I am in a love hate relationship with it lol.
I completely agree. The consoles too! Always have to update the consoles instead of just releasing and calling it a day. I think in more ways it's good for the consoles. As for the games, I don't like it one bit. I miss the days when a full game was released chuck full of secrets and unlockables for completing things in-game as opposed to buying as DLC. The industry keeps wanting us to stay online and connected so they can keep taking our money. I'm very skeptical of a lot of games nowadays that's for sure. Next up... The Divison (because it's online only)
I refuse to buy online only games. I refuse to let the like of MS and Activision to take advantage of me. I will only get the PC versions as long as they wont charge extra. The day games are only playable online is the day I will lay my controller to rest, forever.
Online has been around for decades & wasn't a problem at all until COD & Activision got involved in the console space. Console gamers accepted it & called PC gamers cry babies for for making such a fuss. ...and here we are now with Activision still trying to test how far they can push console gamers & get away with it.
Seriously they should release the dlc for free or at least give us a new planet for free?
ya I hate online multiplayer and instant updates, that really sucks...... o.0
I think its acti, not bungie. But i do know someone is sticking it so far up our arses we wont be sitting for months. Smh Lmfao bungie the grass isnt always greener. I bet you looking back at ms like uh oh. Dumb arses. They seem so new to the industry. Who in the hell is running the buisness side of the operations? Yes ms owns halo, but atleast it wasnt your soul. We all know activision is pulling all your srtings from behind the curtain. They get the check you look stupid. Out of the frying pan into the fire i guess.
And yet we know one of the expansions deals with the Queen, which means that scene that was shown a year ago with her brother on Earth is from the expansion. Even though that scene was part of a gameplay demo of Destiny itself, not the DLC. Pretty clear that a bunch of content was cut out to make these expansions, which is exactly why the game feels so empty and short. There's no content because 2/3rds of the game was cut out for paid expansions. I think Destiny is a good game, but it's nowhere near the quality standard that Bungie has maintained in the past. Activision was the worst thing that happened to them.
Actually that scene was more than likely cut from the final game. If you actually watch the scene you will see the awoken guy talking about how things are done out in the wild on earth. When in the final game he is the right hand of the Awoken Queen. Having him on earth in that scene now would make no sense.
Of course it would make sense. You're not being creative enough. Any time you add content to a game, it doesn't have to be in chronological order. We may or may not ever know what was happening during that scene, but it could have been before the story starts or after the ending, or even something in between that just wasn't included in the main story for whatever reason.
Whatever you say Bungie You're part of Activision now, your souls belong to them.
Still far better then EA, plus I got the pass with my game. So I won't need to buy each dlc.
how about this, both are bad.... Activision and EA alike.....
No, because EA sell broken game with microtrans and dlc. Some, not even close. Plus its a good thing Bungie left Microsoft, they be stuff making Halo games. Just like Rare stuck making Kinect games.
they just both bad period. lets not just leave EA as the worst company, both are terrible. They both close out studios to their benefit, they milk their games with DLC like crazy, they both wanted DRM to happen, i can go on and on. the only difference is, EA does it in the open as if they dont give a crap what we think, until they start losing $$$
Difference is with EA though, if you salvage through the wreckage of the games they've ruined you can usually find a few which are still playable. Activision however...well every game they make is just poor quality
almost as bad as MS.
They may decide to add in 1 or 2 more enemies so technically it is not finished yet.
You guys do realize that most companies work on aspects of DLC while they are creating the main of the game? (not saying that it is in this one, cause it seems 80% was already done here) but if you look at 343/previous Halos you can see they had a bunch of DLC done (or near) ahead of the release date as well.
Oh that'd be perfectly understandable if a game in production for 5 years didn't have the anemic amount of content Destiny has. The Halo games have PLENTY of content in them to merit anything else being DLC. Destiny on the other hand feels like it's a DLCs worth of a game marked at full price
Maybe because Destiny is more of a MMO then a FPS? Did you ever thing of that fireseed? Look at WoW, its nothing but dlc and it works.
You're seriously trying to say that a halo game had more content than all of destiny? Riiiight
@Omega Destiny is NOT an MMO, 26 people per sever is not qualifying enough of an MMO. Besides in each WoW expansion theirs YEARS worth of content. In Destiny you will literally be retreading the same 21 missions over and over again. And WoW works because even if the missions are somewhat samey each one has an interesting and in-depth story explained as to why you're doing it. In Destiny each and every single one of the 21 missions has little to no story to it. (More Below.) @Average Yeah. Yeah I am. On top of Halos already impressive pedigree for MP the SP has a deep and engaing story. I could get into the little details but here's how I'll summarize it for ya. The length of each games cinematics. Halo 1: https://www.youtube.com/wat... 56:51 Halo 2: http://youtu.be/UrIrI4FJZ0A 56:19 Halo 3: https://www.youtube.com/wat... 51:02 Halo 3 ODST: https://www.youtube.com/wat... 48:19 Halo: Reach: https://www.youtube.com/wat... 1:02:31 Halo 4: https://www.youtube.com/wat... https://www.youtube.com/wat... 2:36:13 Destiny: https://www.youtube.com/wat... 29:15 Now I'm not saying that just because a game has more cut scenes makes it neccesarily better. But ffs Destiny cut it down to the bare bone. And outside of cutscenes we all know well enough Dinklebot really doesn't have anything worth while to say about the story. So in terms of content... yeah Halo blows Destiny out of the water.
Destiny having some DLC doesn't bother me. Having content LOCKED AWAY ON THE DISK does bother me. It's like they cut out parts of the game just to sell for extra money. This explains why we still can't go into Kings Watch or Jovian Complex though -.-
Let's just hope it's free content (as unlikely as that is, due to the fact they didn't say it's going to be added)
But that content on the disc may not, or even probably isn't finished. It isn't uncommon at all for the groundwork to be laid out. It's only when someone stumbles upon said content that everyone gets up in arms.
If its on the disk they could have finished it for release, bull excuse. The game wasn't made in a few months. It was obviously left out for DLC
Sure they could have. And delayed the game 3-4 months.
So the rumor of having no new planets is true? Ouch...
I wasn't even expecting new planets, at least not in Destiny 1. That would require making an entirely new "open" world. I also didn't expect content to be removed for DLC though:/
You will probably get the experience Bungie really wanted their players to have in the sequel. Having the games cross platform was a mistake because Bungie tried to make each experience the same.
I look at having more planets as a good thing, no question. Even if the game shipped with more planets, how could getting more be a bad thing.
I absolutely love Destiny, though that's not to say I don't have my share of complaints. IDK what Bungie were thinking. They showed us one footage with the Queen's Brother on Earth, then took it out - leaving ONLY ONE other scene in which he even speaks. WOw.
How do they expect this game to last 10 years when it got boring in like a few days. I hope these dumb weekly events isn't their idea of supporting the game for 10 years.
Destiny 1 isn't gonna last for 10 years man. Use your head. There's obviously gonna be sequels during that timeframe. Hopefully Activision doesn't get even more greedy and make it into a yearly franchise like COD
Dumb weekly events? Once again, an ignorant statement by someone who doesn't understand mmorpg style gameplay.
To be fair, they are dumb. I'm talking about the PvP aspect. Using game modes as "content"? Really? They leave the BEST game mode out (salvage) just to have it as an event, and release the game barebones with only TDM variants. From the people that made Halo 2, they release the game with 4 PvP game modes...just...lol The weekly PvE stuff is typical, and lazy tbh. Have a story mission / strike a week that gives materials / strange coins. No imagination. The raid was great however. Literally the BEST PvE experience the game has.
That was all probably the free content from base game. Much like you get in all mmo's
Bungie shove your excuses were the sun don't shine. no one will buy your overpriced DLC as most people will have traded or are planning to trade it in. thats the key to DLC. the game has to be fun in the first place but Destiny is a turd.
Not true. At all. Good try tho.
lol wow bungie kinda blew it with this game never played the game but was expecting universal praise from everyone I guess Naughty Dog is the last of the super designers can't wait for uncharted 4
They cut off content from the main game and put it as DLC I don't care what people say.
Not into PVP so don't think ill ever give destiny a go.
So Bungie showed off bits and pieces from future DLC... and that proves what? They have areas already mapped out (referencing the sneak peek) and that means...? I feel sorry for those that cannot enjoy the game for what it is. Wasn't this story supposed to be spread out over many discs? I don't believe the expansions are done. I'm really not sure what people expect these days, this is not a drive-thru experience. Anymore, every new AAA game up to bat gets railroaded, or there's an attempt at it.
Not finished, care to explain those 2 leaked location videos?
When WoW came out in 2004, there where about 4 areas in the game which were inaccessible, Mount Hyjal, Twilight Highlands, Uldum and Blasted Lands. They rolled out when their expansion hit, during that time, those areas were still in the game, as placeholders for future expansions. Still as off today, there's a piece of land inaccessible, right at the top of Western Plaguelands.
Did people really expect them to start working on the expansion once the games were on shelves? This is fairly common practice for MMO games. No need to rage people please think of the children
Whatever im sick of this game already. Its a fucking single player game, because everyone solos, and nobody wants to talk, there's no matchmaking for weeklys, dailys, raid. What a gret social experience this turned out to be
Play with friends or make some. Seriously though.
He has a point about matchmaking though. Strikes has matchmaking, why can't weekly / daily? Raid requires dedicated people, and would be extremely frustrating trying that with bluedots.
It's very funny they are talking expansion packs when the game itself is not even finished. Maybe they should have put mor story in the actual game. I finished the story and thought I was only halfway into it.
I believe the expansions are supplemental to continuing the story. Don't think it's an add-on to the "finished" product. Expansions in this respect continue the progression of Destiny without having to mass produce a disc regularly.
milk it or not im still enjoying the game, i agree the story is very short but at least there committed for the long term even if it is dlc's i hate clocking a game in a week then theres nothing to do on there
DLC & Season Passes are contributing to gamings downfall because it's always very extremely minimal that the content is diverse enough from the game, to even warrant the purchase!
The absolute number one thing that pisses me off about games today is when they deliberately leave out parts of the game so they can sell it later by unlocking it from the disc. Just saying. Off Topic: I know this is a little "out there" but does anyone have any credit card credentials I may use? Obviously from an old one you cancelled or something haha. Just want to redeem my month worth of PS Plus.
Gen 6 is truly the last great moment in gaming. All the extra content was unlocked by beating certain modes, if not the story. Not with your debit card.
Can we at least wait until we actually get some gameplay of these supposed glitched into areas ? It could be a place holder it might not I'm leaning toward it probably not being a placeholder but I'm not going gungho "NO YOUR A LIE " level like most people are now. If the content that comes out does use the areas that have been glitched into then yea go to town but right now were basically running on rumors and hurt feelings from previous companies. Its not that difficult to implement a button onto a UI and doesn't necessarily point to said content being present.Honestly could of been implemented during one of the recent updates. Possibly leftover code that happened to slip through the conditions that block it from being shown/ select-able.
Hey the game was nowhere near finished either, didn't stop them from putting it out right?
Its sad to see what bungie has become now that there with activision definetely liked them more when they were with microsoft
I love how upset some of the people are getting over this. It makes sense to me that DLC would be in-development before the finished game is out. If it isn't, then it wouldn't tie into the story. It has to be planned out if you want it to seem like it fits. If they waited until after the game was complete to add in DLC, then they'd be re-writing the story. There will be little tells in the current missions and cutscenes that will be brought back up in the DLC missions. That's just how good storytelling works (whether you believe Destiny has a good story or not). Files on a disc doesn't mean there is finished content. For all anyone knows, it could just be the locations that get added to the map and the descriptions for the missions. The actual spot on the map that you select would link to the DLC install files rather than files installed from the disc (or on the disc). Essentially, I'm saying that these could just simply be shortcuts that call the files that will be completed and released later.
I wonder why the area in the Cosmodrome that people managed to glitch into looks so very much finished then...
I remember when gamers enjoyed games and gaming, now it seems most "gamers" are anti-gamers in sheep's clothing.
Most of you seem to forget gaming companies are out to make money. Like every other business, that's all and DLC is a good way for them to do that. And I think it is a far better option for us than say charging subscription fees which they could do, since running servers for online games isn't free.
