The Playstation TV Could Be Sony’s Next Big Console

MegaJon28 writes "Sony is working with a unique situation, they have the possibility to have two profitable home consoles out in the same generation. The PS4 is already showing a profit for the company, mostly due to a high volume of sales and positive reviews from consumers. The Playstation TV is an interesting device since it will be catering to both the PS4 audience and the budget minded audience as well. On top of everything, the Playstation TV appears to be cheap for Sony to produce since it’s mostly a Vita motherboard without the very expensive screen. The PS TV will be releasing in the U.S. on October 14."

Does anyone know if PSNOW will be available for PSTV at launch?

megajon1542d ago

The fact sheet sent to us is sort of vague when it comes to PS Now for the PS TV. All it says is when it is rolled out in Europe we will have it available. Not sure if this is just directed towards Europe's PS TVs or if that means that the launch will happen everywhere after Europe is in.

I take it that means PSNOW wont be available for people in the US at launch.

Sony did mention VITA/PSTV having an open beta later in the year. Not sure if that coincides with the October launch date.

This is correct. I am actually expecting it around the same time as their TV service launches. Probably November of December.

They need to work on patching some handled only games to be compatible with the pstv

Eonjay1541d ago

The actually have but, they say you need to make sure you download the newest update for those respective titles.

Here is the list of compatible software. Some titles like Gravity Rush are missing however.

There's still a few issues I have with this, at for the start;
The fact it needs to be hard wired to do PS4 remote play kind of sucks.
The fact its only using the DS3 right, prefer the DS4 way more
I completely dislike the UI as it's built for a touchscreen.
Speaking of touchscreen games that I would love to play that utilize the touchscreen like Gravity Rush, Uncharted, and Tearaway you currently can't play is a huge bummer.
If it sells well, hey great, but it just seems like a great idea with poor execution.

@megajon perfect thanks! That would awesome to use if they add in Tearaway or Gravity Rush with I would love to play on the big screen.

The DS4 is actually compatible with the PS TV as well!

Also I see no reason to buy any of the alternatives since this box seems to do everything the others do and a lot more. Sony just needs to put it in front of consumers as a do everything box that's dirt cheap.

Also, no need to be hardwired to remote play Ps4. PS US blog clarified that a hardwired connection is optimal but you can still remote play via wifi.

Technically Sony will have 3 consoles out and one portable. The PS3 is still around. The PS4 and Vita TV are the new home consoles and the Vita is... well it arounds as well.

I think PlayStation TV is pretty much fail proof in the US with the $99 pricetag. Its a great streaming device for Netflix and it also plays hundreds of games. I really am looking forward to this. Its a great idea for Christmas. It can be a younger siblings first console. And its perfect for travel.

Also, this micro console is destined to become legend in the hacking community.

Well I haven't been watched TV in a long time but since the PSTV is launching soon, shouldn't Sony be advertising it? That's one of the factors of whether it'll succeed or not. I simply want one for playing my Vita games on my TV.

That's Sony's biggest problem and IMO the main reason their struggling in the industry. It's not the products themselves, they just under advertise everything they make. All accept for PS4 and look at how good that turned out. I've yet to see an Xperia Z3 or Bravia advertisement, but Apple and Samsung are all over the place. Even LG and HTC are doing a much better job at marketing. Sony needs to step their marketing game up seriously because that's whats hurting them.
