After years of tweaking, perfecting and pushing, Steam has broken another in a long list of milestones.
Does Dr. Evil own Steam?
Last time I checked it was Gabe Newel. Congrats Steam.
Right, Dr Evil.
Proud to be one of 'em! :) Steam isn't perfect but it's hands down the best gaming client on PC IMO.
Oh yeah, and not just because Origin is a barren, broken wasteland of crap. Steam actually works, and works well.
Origin does some things right. Like returning a game if you're not satisfied with it. Steam's return process is simply a Joke.
It certainly trumps all other PC services.
Not surprised really it is the best gaming option out there.
Agree to disagree. It is best for Indies and third party but it has no exclusives.
Yeah. PS3 has higher rated exclusives than the PC has in all of pc's lifetime. http://www.metacritic.com/b... http://www.metacritic.com/b... If you add the whole playstation platform into the picture, then it annihilates the whole pc exclusive lineup. Playstation Race > PC Masterlol? Race PC Fanboys: But we have more exclusives!! lol
That's not true in the slightest. It's not something that can even be said to be a matter of opinion, it's blatantly and demonstrably not true. The PC gets tons of exclusives. More than any other platform in fact. Some people have taken the time to tally up all the exclusives each platform has received each year and the PC has come out on top. If I have time I'll look for links. But to get an idea of this, simply pick up any issue of GameInformer and count up the number of exclusives shown for each platform in reviews and previews and you will see that the PC usually has by far the most. And Game Infromer is far from being a PC-centered magazine. This gives you just a bit of an idea of how many exclusives the PC gets.
@starchild more exclusives does not equal to more higher quality exclusives something that the Playstation dominates in When was the last time you had an exclusive that was better than The Last of Us? Uncharted 2? Red Dead Redemption? Metal Gear Solid 4? Little Big Planet? It's okay I can wait @Vegamyster Your comparison of ONE year does not represent too much since many developers have switched to making PS4 games. If you take scores of the PS3 lifetime in comparison to the same amount of years of PC. Games rated at 95 or better for PS3 vs PC is 4:0 and one of those 90 or above scores for PC is a Warcraft expansion which doesn't even count as a full game And yours list is complete bull**** because there is only one title listed in the metacritic that was 90 or above from last year and that was DoTA 2!
@XiYakushijuAkeginuXi Arguing which exclusives are better is pointless because it comes down to personal taste, my favorite genre is RTS which is non-existent on consoles. Critics are not the be all end all but since you want to play that game, lets look at last year. http://i.imgur.com/tP8RudM.... "When was the last time you had an exclusive that was better than The Last of Us? Uncharted 2? Red Dead Redemption? Metal Gear Solid 4? Little Big Planet? It's okay I can wait" Again, comes down to taste but here's a good batch. https://www.youtube.com/wat... https://www.youtube.com/wat... https://www.youtube.com/wat... https://www.youtube.com/wat...
@Vegamyster Lmao your list is hilarious. Personal taste does matter of course, but OVERALL the population would agree that The Last of Us 95 Uncharted 2 96 Red Dead Redemption 95 Metal Gear Solid 4 94 Little Big Planet 95 via Metacritic is no match for ANY of the games you mentioned yet you also show me either CGI footage or trailers made by the company to make it seem like it is a better game. Red Alert 3 82 Starcraft II 93 Divinity Original Sin 87 Company of Heroes II 80 via metacritic Yet the above list that you mentioned isn't even correct when you actually look at the source of which it claims to get its information from
@XiYakushijuAkeginuXi It's called replay value and that's a big reason which is why Metacritic is pointless, the most popular games on Twitch is primarily PC exclusives or 3rd party games on PC. Do you honestly believe GTA 4 & 5 are the best 3rd party games last gen because they have a 98/97? http://i.imgur.com/M81uKnJ.... "Yet the above list that you mentioned isn't even correct when you actually look at the source of which it claims to get its information from " The list that comes directly from Metacritic? Lol. http://www.metacritic.com/f... You think opinion = fact, Metacritic is just a collection of reviewers opinions so it doesn't matter how high or low something is rated. Personal taste is all that matters, not numbers.
I liked the part where the one guy posted YouTube videos to a bunch of RTS games and pretended it was a genre that matters to most gamers. I'll stick with my console exclusives and efficiency.
Why exactly are we talking about Playstation games in a thread about Steam having 100 million users? Why can't people be happy the PC is doing well and leave it at that? I never heard of a contest where all contestants can actually have the best of both worlds if they choose. Some of you act like it has to be one or the other like some private club.
Total fail troll most game review sites dont even review 10 percent of PC games released.
The Recent "gamergate" scandal in gaming journalism proves that most reviewers are bought and paid for by Nintendo, Sony, and MS. PC gaming doesn't have an overarching parent company to dish out goodies to these so-called journalists, and the their poor reviews on many outstanding games prove it. You guys notice how the PC version of a multiplat never gets additional points for having far superior graphics and features? Again, the bias is astounding.
@XiYakushijuAkeginuXi All your stats or evidence only prove that PC gamers don't care about your exclusives' metacritic score. What's the point of gloating over 90+ metacritic scores or console only exclusives when it doesn't stop 100 million people from subscribing to Steam? How does it help your argument when it doesn't bother the Steam growing population at all? You'll get heated counter arguments but PC gamers are still getting ports after ports of once console exclusive games. Next year I want you to put down your controller for a moment and listen carefully. You'll hear the sound of thousands of KBMs being clicked as PC gamer are playing MGV. I guess MG4's 94 score isn't good enough to keep it exclusively on consoles.
@monochromer I like the part where you missed the part where i said "Arguing which exclusives are better is pointless because it comes down to personal taste, my favorite genre is RTS which is non-existent on consoles." "Personal taste is all that matters, not numbers." That being said Starcraft 2 is still popular years after launch and has big tournaments so obviously lots of people still care about it.
How do you break so many accounts? Sounds like the work of hackers to me, hopefully they are fixed soon.
yeah sure it's all hackers right? I guess the 100 million psn accounts were mostly due to hackers right?
I sarcasted and I think you missed more than that... holy monkey balls, what did I set loose?
I thought it was pretty obvious that you were joking.
Congrats valve. Now stop ignoring your fan base and make half life 3. My love for valve has lowered so much because of how much they ignore there fan base. But there fan base will forgive them no matter what because of those price drops every season. Price drops don't cut it for me anymore valve.
Steam is where it's at. They make Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo look like a bunch of nonsense.
And yet Playstation has higher rated games than anything steam has to offer. Oh and can I sell my games on steam? Can I get a physical copy?
Oh, and can you play your PS One, PS2, and PS3 games on your PS4? I'm playing games that are nearly 15 years old on Steam, and even once the PS4 generation is played out, I'll still be using my Steam account on the very same PC to play the newest games when the PS5 and Xbox Two come out. In terms of selling games, I believe that Steam was forced to allow resale of digital copies in Europe. Eventually we'll have that option in North America. Honestly though, people buy games for such a cheap price on Steam, that I doubt that reselling games is of any concern to anybody who owns a PC. If you're a PS4 owner, I can totally understand why you would want to sell all of your games and your system, since you're forced to buy an expensive new console every generation without backwards compatibility, rendering your games library useless on your new system. Or maybe you've got a PS2, PS3 and PS4 sitting under the TV to play all of your games you've accumulated over the years....and then maybe you'll have a PS5 sitting under your TV too one day.
Key word, rated. 95% of review sites are console bias. No sh!t they review higher. It means nothing. Name almost any genre of game and the PC still has the largest and longest lasting followings. That says alot more about the quality of a game than one persons opinion/review. JRPGs are about the only thing that consoles have better. Also just to give you an idea of the difference in number of exclusives. https://docs.google.com/doc... That is about 900 games more than the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Gamecube, Wii & WiiU combined.
Good luck paying for your online services bro Metacritic? ok lol we will take arbitrary scores assigned by opinions seriously. By your reckoning the best music in the world is supplied by the likes of Nicky Minaj, Justin Beiber and the best cuisine is McDonalds. Have fun with thinking popular opinion is a metric for what is good and bad.
Well said brother. From Steam sales to Gamestream to Family Sharing, Steam never stops innovating and advancing gaming experiences. And all for Free!! I cannot believe a free service gives such dividends. Truly the golden age of gaming.
Pride to be one of them 😉
Well but i wonder how many of those 100 millons are duplicated accounts. And im saying this because i have 3 accounts, and i know others that have more than one #Sometimes people do accounts just for simple reasons like storage in games like path of exile, and those can be called active because i use all of them.
Lol, so many butthurt peasent kids in a Pc news.
I'm getting paid in skins to play my favorite game vs paying to actually play on a console No brainer it's so big.
