Review: Forza Motorsport 5 Is The New Pole Position For Simulation Racers [EGMR]

Quote: "Forza Motorsport 5 is the pinnacle of simulation racing titles and so if you're a fan of racers of any kind, you really ought to pick this one up. As an added bonus, the game is also visually gorgeous with vehicles and environments that will leave you flabbergasted at just how far we can push graphics in our gaming today. The Forza experience has been preserved throughout and if you can get around a lack of freedom away from the career mode then you've got yourself the best racing simulation game money can currently buy. "

The story is too old to be commented.

"you've got yourself the best racing simulation game money can currently buy"...high praise indeed.

Picked up the GOTY Edition and a Thrustmaster FFB wheel.

The game is great, I guess that's why it still shows up on the charts, usually in the top 20, despite launching almost 11 months ago.

Like this game a lot, but I might trade it in for FH2.

I don't see myself needing two Forza games right now and I'm sure FH2 will hold me over until F6 is made.

Yeah I see what you're saying but I'll keep my Forza5 for my pure sim itch. That said FH2 along with SSO, HaloMCC and yes COD AW will dominate my next 6months, I really want Shadow of Mordor too. That's what's pissing me off all of my favorites are coming so closely together.

I still play it and still will even with FH2 soon joining it, in my collection. Still my fave sim racer on console.

I love Forza 5!
On a side note the other day i played some of the horizon demo and then immediately switched to Forza 5!
And my god could you tell the massive difference 60fps makes!

Seriously i dont know why people think horizon looks so awesome for me Forza 5 has so much more detail and runs so smooth! granted i understand horizon is open world but still i just feel let down with the graphics! maybe the full game will be better but so far drive club looks light years more realistic to my eyes! and by far forza 5 IS the best racer on consoles out now!

I just dont understand how any sane person can say they cant notice the difference between forza 5 60fps compared to the horizon demo at 30fps!
people must be lying or just dont care enough!
Even my wife could visually see the massive difference between the two games.
Let alone feeling it!

I seriously think this game has been held back by the 360 version.
I think the game could of been so much better, dont get me wrong its pretty as hell for a open world game but compared to drive club and forza 5 it just cant compare visually!

Granted i know the game play is going to rock since the demo was AWESOME!

If you're into racing games like this, they are a great value for your dollar in terms of play time.

Looks good, especially the grey car at the bottom of the article.

I am wondering two things that weren't mentioned:

1. can you customize your cars?

2. is there weather in the game?

If anyone knows, let me know, thanks

lets_go_gunners1457d ago

In forza you can tune literally every part of your car..down to the finest details in suspension. Really in depth and in my opinion convoluted AF but the hardcore forza fans love it. I only do engines and crap cause I'm new to this kind of game.

As for weather unfortunately Forza 5 lacks it and a day/night cycle. These features will be implemented in this years forza."Forza Horizon 2"

pixelsword1457d ago

Thanks, both to you and NeoGamer232; I bubbled you both up under "helpul".

NeoGamer2321457d ago

You can fully customize both inside and outside the cars...

No weather...

But, Forza Motorsports 5 has Drivatars... Essentially, your racing norms are saved up to the cloud and processed... Then, your norms appear in other people's races... This completely changes racing single player AI... Now the AI isn't afraid to trade paint just like you...

I play a lot of racing games... Played Forza Motorsports 5 then went and played some previous generation racers... Forza Motorsports 5 is in a different league.

Also, very cool feature is the feedback on the triggers... It gives you that ABS feeling on a normal X1 controller.

Uh, what? Forza is not a sim racer. It's a hybrid that sits a bit more on the arcade side. Forza has never been a sim, nor was it ever meant to be.

I'm not saying the game is good or bad, it just isn't a sim.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ1457d ago

Im not understanding how? I think GT and Forza Motorsport are "Sims" and games like Driveclub, Forza Horizon, Need For Speed, etc. are obviously not sims, but given how realistic the handling and physics are in GT and Forza Motorsport, what other game is cinsidered a sim if those kind of games are not?

porkChop1457d ago (Edited 1457d ago )

Have you ever raced, or driven a real car? In Forza the handling model isn't quite sim-level. The physics, and the weight/feel of the cars is somewhat realistic at times, but the handling is still more arcade than sim.

GT isn't perfect either, though the actual handling/driving is quite a bit more realistic. It's the closest thing to a proper sim available on consoles at the moment.

nix1457d ago

Porkchop, I'm surprised ppl disagreed with you. I understand in F5 you can tune all the way to the screw but hell that doesn't make it a sim. With that logic in NFS (the ps2 days) you could customise your car too. Not all the way but it was customizable but that didn't make it a sim. It all comes down to one thing and that's handling. That way GT series is the best you have on the consoles. I'm sure there are better sims on PC. I'm really interested in Project CARS n I'll pick one when it drops. I have nothing against F5 but i hate people who hail it as the best sim.

GodGinrai1457d ago

@PorkChop

I drive. I own a car. A rear wheel drive one at that. I wont say which one but ill give you this hint..its a straight six..

Now using that as a beacon of perspective, I would also like to add I am a VERY enthusiastic driver. And a petrol head..

So here is my take on both FMs and GTs approach to handling.

Forza:
Pros:communication of weight transfer and tire feedback than.Great feedback via sticks/analogue triggers.Fantastic engine notes
Cons: Steering sometimes feels a little light on the R-Class cars..

GT:
Pros:solid weighty feeling steering.good feed back via steering wheel.
Cons:Cars feel too understeery/a little sluggish.Tires make far too much noise when not near limits of adhesion. not much feel of car via analougue sticks. cars sound like vacuum cleaners at times.

I should also point out that I have served two bans, so yesI know a thing or two about driving a real car at its limits. even if it was in less than ideal settings. driving fast, is driving fast. track or road.
