Does Insomniac intend to follow in the footsteps of Dead Rising 3 and Ryse and port Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive to PC at a later date?
His answer: "I don't know what the future holds," Stevenson said. "Right now there's no plans for a PC version of the game. We're just working hard to finish up [the Xbox One version]. We're going to support it post-launch and then we'll see what happens in the future. But there's no plans. We aren't planning a PC version or anything like that."
He's saying if sales are low, it will.
Basically, if the same events of what happened with DR3 and Ryse will happen to this as neither of those games were supposed to ever come to PC.
He said they are not working on a PC version and have no plans to do so, its not ruled out though and even though I'm not a pc guy as a gamer I think it would be great for pc 6-8months from now, I'm just excited I get to play it on Oct 28, day 1 like all my most anticipated games.
I think the reason why we are seeing this happen is because games cost so much to make these days. If you are third party, and own your IP, you will want to maximize your return.
He's also said that it's possible X1 owners will get ratchet and clank.
Well considering Dead Rising 3 and Ryse are now on PC, it wouldn't be out of the question for Sunset Overdrive to show up next year.
@tiny "He's also said that it's possible X1 owners will get ratchet and clank." Doesn't Sony own the IP? That can't happen unless insomniac buys the IP from them.
ha ha, so true
nothing to do with sales. They own the IP, thus they will bring it where the feel. They likely need to wait a few months before they announce another version as MS has done deals like this in the past regarding such matters. Expect a PC and PS4 version down the line as no damn company needs an excuse to make money. GTAV did 35 million and its getting a port. Ryse and Dead Rising 3 didn't sell so well....they are also getting ports. Understand that porting doesn't mean its cause the game did bad, it would have been ported regardless. Best games of all time get ported, worse games of all time get ported lol.
If SOD will bomb like Ryse did, then theres certainly chance for a PC version.
Lol sony fanboys, you are looking desperate as hell. Why the concern for xone games? It is not about where you can play it. Its about where you cant. Thats why this article is full of sony fanboys. We dont mind our games being played on microsofts other console that they didnt even have to make themselves, pc. Lol mo money, mo money, mo money. You would think with all the games ps4 has (giggles) you would be to busy to talk about a game you are not even going to play. The game is for everyone, only you can stop yourself from having it. Sony fanboys are turning into the grinch. I bet they would try to stop Christmas from comeing if they could. Omg lmfao Wait a min. You mean sony fans come here and downplay the game, then go to insomniac and ask for the game on ps4? F n hillarious. And sad. Come join us, we would love to have you playing games instead of hating them, because your console of choice isnt getting the job done for you. We all make bad choices, some you have to live with some you dont. Jump in, we got game.
who said anything in relation to sony and sunset overdrive prior to your edited comment?.. only thing I'm seeing is ratchet and clank.. the comments are generally talking about sunset coming to pc as the title clearly states.. "Will Sunset Overdrive come to PC? Here's what Insomniac has to say". u have your fanboys mixed up between sony and pc buddy
Learn how to spell first 😂
"Come join us" lolz. If you own a PC and PS4, you have little reason to actually get a XONE just like if you owned a PC and PS3 last gen. Mind you...I see SSO on PC and PS4 as Insomniac owns the IP. Sorry but I'd rather have a system for exclusives then a system for timed games that end up every where else 6 months to a year later.
Nice. Two things to consider. 1) Microsoft's track record so far with their third party exclusives, the fact that devs have denied it, but they end up on PC or other platforms. 2) Insomniac went with MS to be able to own the IP explicitly. Why else would they want to own the IP if they weren't going to control where they release it in the future. They aren't going to make most of the money they'd like on Xbone, so PC is likely and PS4 would be a no brainer considering their fan base.
"Sunset Overdrive is and will be exclusive to the Xbox One," Salvitti told the creator of a petition for a PlayStation version. "Petitions will not change that. We have a partner in Microsoft, that we are happy with for this title. That doesn't mean we can't and won't work with other publishers (see Into the Nexus)." "I would not count on it being on the PS4," he explained to another user. "I will not say never because you never really know (heck Ratchet could end up on Xbox one day), but we are not planning on it being on the PS4, nor is it planned to be a timed exclusive. It is being developed and optimized for the Xbox One." www.totalxbox.com/63422/sunse t-overdrive-isnt-a-timed-xbox-o ne-exclusive-no-need-to-beat-th e-proverbial-dead-horse/ I'd say a Pc release in the future is alot more likely than Ps4.I actually doubt it will be released on pS4 just like titanfall, ryse and Dr3. Ted and Salvitti have said many times on twitter that ps fans need to stop asking for the game on ps4 cos it will never happen but he also said they would keep working with sony on other titles but not SO.
Mhmmmm nah, I don't believe them, I think it will make its way to the PS4 eventually. They never completely ruled it out and they have no reason not. Besides the PS4 fanbase doubles the X1s and its only going to get bigger as the generation moves on. Yeah, its coming to the PS4.
@Chris Just like people doubted Ninja Gaiden will release on PS3 Just like people doubted Bioshock would release on PS3 Just like people doubted Mass Effect would release on PS3 Just like people doubted Dead Rising 2 would release on PS3
"Ted and Salvitti have said many times on twitter that ps fans need to stop asking for the game on ps4 cos it will never happen but he also said they would keep working with sony on other titles but not SO." All I can say is good luck with SO Ted and Salvitti.
I think people should respect the deal that they have with Microsoft and expect to see future titles (perhaps even a sequel to SO) on PS4.
@XiYakushijuAkeginuXi Just like people claimed that The Witcher 2 would come to PS3. Just like people claimed that Alan Wake would come to PS3. Just like people claimed that Splinter Cell Conviction would come to PS3. Point is, it eventually getting released on PC is a lot more likely than it every releasing on PS4. But it might not ever come to the PC either. Let's just not jump to conclusions based on what we hope will happen.
@ Chris If it were a different company, then I would agree with you, but Insomiac has been making Playstation games for how long?
@starchild Not applicable, not only is the PS4 easier to develop for but it also has double the install base. These factors were not in favor of the PS3 last gen and the games that Xi listed still made it over.
Whats the point of an exclusive/timed exclusive if every1 already knows it will drop on other platforms?
Ok, we get it. It'll never come to ps4. I hope Microsoft buys insomniac, that way all speculation and hope will be gone in regards to any future games coming to ps4.
Also add past and the next Gears of War sequel to the list of games that were suppose to go to ps3/ps4 before micro locked it the franchise.
Lord your a slow one. Did Capcom not claim DR3 would NEVER be on PC and PS4...yet its on PC? Why are we to not beleive they will show off a PS4 version? MS doesn't own the IP to DR3, Ryse, or SSO. Thus...its going to end up where the owners of the IP say so. Soooo Mass Effect. Bioshock. Lost Planet. Ninja Gaiden II and many more where "exclusive" and not to go ANYWHERE yet......they are clearly else where. Please dear god don't be so slow... MS again...doesn't own the IP. They've done this numerous times, hell Dust is coming to PS4 and the damn game was PUBLISHED by MS. Sorry but how many times does one need to show an example to you that "published" doesn't = "owned"? LMFAO! Oh..OH YES..because they said so. (yup...cause they can't lie and have never lied about such things ever in the past ever) Why on earth would they keep an IP to a game they plan to keep on one platform? Sony nor MS many times care to take away creative control from teams, Sony more then MS based on they tend to side with the developer. ie Forza only done by turn 10, GT only done by PD etc. Thus...I don't really see why they would do that other then to bring it else where. Again...wouldn't even be the first time so I'm not sure why anyone would be so slow as to even defend a XB exclusive...by a 3rd party developer...OF AN IP MS DOESN'T OWN! Lord have mercy...welcome to gaming new born.
You always want to own the IP even if you only release it on one platform. If Sunset Overdrive blows up and they turn this into a franchise and release toys, they'll want control over all of that. It's just a good idea to aways own the IP.
@XiYakushijuAkeginuXi So basically you're saying Sony doesn't have to pay a dime to help with development and publishing and they will get the game on their platform? Do you people really think Microsoft will spend this much money on marketing, publishing, and developing for this game if it's going to come to the Playstation eventually? That's like saying I want to buy a pizza that cost $25 and I ask 4 people to add money to it. Let's say Brad adds $5, Gabby adds $5, Mike adds $5, and Donald doesn't want to pay. That's $15 and then I add my $10, guess what? Donald is not getting any of that pizza because he didn't help pay for it, so why should he get some? And since this is dealing with business, so there's no sharing in the exclusive department.
"So basically you're saying Sony doesn't have to pay a dime to help with development and publishing and they will get the game on their platform?" LMAO Where did I ever say that yet even hint at something like that? "Donald is not getting any of that pizza because he didn't help pay for it, so why should he get some?" Dude, wth are you talking about? "And since this is dealing with business, so there's no sharing in the exclusive department." AHAHAHAHAHAHA
@XiYakushijuAkeginuXi Um, didn't you make it seem like those games you listed were suppose to be only on Xbox, but eventually game to the Playstation platform right? So I can only assume you are saying this is the same situation and that Sunset Overdrive will come to the PS4. "Dude, wth are you talking about?" It's call an analogy. "AHAHAHAHAHAHA" OK...that is somehow funny. I said that because I thought you would mention something about how you can share the pizza even though he didn't pay, but since this is dealing with business that won't happen.
@XiYakushijuAkeginuXi Um, didn't you make it seem like those games you listed were suppose to be only on Xbox, but eventually game to the Playstation platform right? So I can only assume you are saying this is the same situation and that Sunset Overdrive will come to the PS4. Lol your assumption was wrong "Dude, wth are you talking about?" It's call an analogy. lol and your comment is funny AHHAHAHAHAH "I said that because I thought you would mention something about how you can share the pizza" HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAHAAAAHAHAHAHHAHA OMG STOP IT IM DYING HELP!
In new Zealand $25 would get 2 Large pizzas and 2 large sides delivered.
tho I do agree with what your saying.. pizza also isn't known for turning a profit for the people who buy it, is it?
"Do you people really think Microsoft will spend this much money on marketing, publishing, and developing for this game if it's going to come to the Playstation eventually?" yes...MS isn't developing this game, they are publising it. And they have in the past so I don't know what your talking about. MS when they lost Mass Effect actually NEVER owned the Mass Effect IP. ie....Bioware owned the IP, not MS. MS didn't own Bioware nor the IP. Thus...EA bought the IP FROM Bioware, while they bought Bioware and Pandemic. Mind you....it was KNOWN ME would be a 3 part series and MS still didn't buy the IP. MS only cares about selling XONEs THIS FALL, they could care less about where that IP goes afterwards, hell read what they stated about Tomb Raider, its very clear they don't care to OWN the IP, merely to have a great fall and sell lots of XONEs for a while. They did this with many, many games. Fact is...the don't own the IP, thus...no reason to question what MS will or won't do because they would not even be making such a damn deal if they didn't know what would happen anyway. Consider MS doesn't really care, if the did....they would own the IP already.
In summary its an xbox exclusive and all their focus for now is on xbox one but in the future they will decide if it will come to PC. I really don't mind it going to pc and even if this game eventually lands on pc its going to be atleast 8 to 12 months after the xbox one version has launched and i think if it does really well MS may strike a deal with insomniac to lock up the sequels as xbx and maybe pc exclusives. Its the same thing i see happening with Rise of the tombraider and besides ybarra and greenberg recently said on twitter that SO unlike Ryse and D3 was going to be 100% exclusive...so let's see what happens.
"Its the same thing i see happening with Rise of the tombraider" LOL seriously? So naive..
Naive? lol. Wth is wrong with the kids on this site? Would usually not even bother with a reply but you and those like you really need to grow up. We are discusing games here if you can't handle it&discuss reasonably then move on or better still don't bother replying my comments. Ok?
@ Chris Naivety stems from 2 points: ignorance and hopeful delusion. The same will not be happening with Tomb Raider for a number of logical reasons: 1) It's a hugely relevant PlayStation franchise and Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix stand to lose a lot more in the long-term by not releasing to PlayStation and PC consumers. 2) The game is published by Square Enix, not Microsoft. They are the same company that put Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts on two platforms to make more money. Microsoft can do nothing to stop Square deciding to do make as much money as possible. ----- I know you're a huge Xbox fan, but at least be reasonable about this. Diverting the conversation away from the distinct possibility of Sunset Overdrive or any other "Xbox exclusive" coming to PS4. Putting your trust in the words of Xbox employees and Xbone devs who have told white lies about exclusivity several times already this gen, is pretty unwise. ------ "I will not say never because you never really know (heck Ratchet could end up on Xbox one day)" You trust the words of this crack hound? R&C is owned by SCEA, and you trust a person that believes it stands its chances on Xbone one day? "It is being developed and optimized for the Xbox One." Great. I can wait for the 1080p version.
My comment obviously struck a nerve which is why you responded and proceeded to call me a child in response to me calling your statement naive. If my criticism of your statement has you so bent out of shape to the point where you are referring to others as children than I'm not sure if you can get any more hypocritical by telling me to grow up. This is an open forum, if you can;t handle someone replying to you than don't comment. Keep your feelings in check.
Well a X1 game coming to Windows on PC is still Microsoft all the way. Eventually they'll probably have Xbox PC's where you set resolution and frame rate, etc. instead of everything being fixed.
Yup, just like all games that go on Xbox are still Sonys cause of Blu-ray.
Lol. In a funny way yeah cos you still get to buy their OS.
Unless you don't and either pirate windows or just use Linux exclusively...go ahead and laugh, then look at the AAA games that are available RIGHT NOW on Linux platforms. PC does NOT equal Windows, not anymore.
@ Funantic1 Here we go again. I wish one day, you would learn from the repeated barges of logic and education you receive from making these false statements. --- "Well a X1 game coming to Windows on PC is still Microsoft all the way." Microsoft doesn't make money from PC game sales. Not unless they're publishing the game, where they would get a cut from sales. This scenario is very few and far between. --- "Eventually they'll probably have Xbox PC's where you set resolution and frame rate, etc." Are you actually kidding me? Those things already exist. They're called PCs - where you customize the hardware, and can set the resolution and frame rate yourself and not everything is fixed. I mean Steam boxes are already out in the wild for christ's sake. Please, just stop commenting. --- @ Chris Do you think people who play on PC are constantly giving Microsoft OS money? People who game on PC have already had a purchased copy of Windows long before they decided to use it for gaming, and if they're wise, they'll transfer that same license to their new rig when they're building it. And it's not like Microsoft makes sales on their OS, every time a new PC game comes out.
i just hope microsoft starts doing xbox/ pc cross platform play..i thought i was awesome with shadow run
Yeah, Microsoft definitley has a vested interest in PC gaming and they should find more ways to leverage both platforms in positive ways.
Would most likely buy both versions then.
Who cares...i have a gaming rig for games like GTAV and Witcher 3 and XB1 for Sunset Overdrive. If it doesnt come Ill be fine and if it does come Ill be fine too. Just get a xb1 to supplement your gaming PC and you don't have to worry about it, plus you also get to play Halo and Forza and other great exclusives which will never be on PC.
Dead Rising 3, Ryse - and even Titanfall with some - are not everybody's 'must have' games. Everyone should understand why those 3 games would get PC releases. Not only is there a big demand there but the games are not so mind bendingly different that Xbox One owners would feel bad about it. But Sunset Overdrive, like Quantum Break, is the kind of niche, cultish, game that would get a passionate minority, that will hopefully turn in to less a minority due to word of mouth, in to supporting the Xbox One. To release it on PC would seem a bit like a kick in the face to Xbox One buyers. I expect that Quantum Break will end up on PC as Remedy games always do. But Sunset Overdrive? It's not necessarily destined for the PC. I still think that it is such a special looking game aesthetically that Microsoft should keep it entirely exclusive for the Xbox One in their own interests and in the interests of Xbox One owners to be pleased with their purchase rather than being sneered at by PC owners. But if the Xbox One is to be Microsoft's last console as it might well be I suppose that Insomniac will whack it on to the PC as soon as they can for the short term profit (and long term profit in terms of the PC) and so more gamers can play it.
If this game does well out of the gate probably will not see a PC build for a while if at all. However, if this game turns out to be mediocre, which, could be a good possibility especially considering the poor reception of FUSE and the last Resistance game. A PC version makes sense to try and capture some revenue unless its really a POS then it might just be a money pit. Hopefully it will be a good game.
The main difference is there is a pc version is that they will get my money. Otherwise it's going into the xbone emulator pile for the years to come.
I could see it coming to PS4 eventually depending on how well it does. Thats why they wanted the rights to the IP to test the waters with XB1 and see what type of market share they could muster. Ity would have had a better chance on PS4 due to the higher install base but that is the route they went with MS. At the end of the day I hope it does well and sells alot on XB1. As I have said we need more games like this that are FUN 2 play.
