Japanese website for students, MyNavi Student, has recently polled its readers on which Japanese video game company is their favorite.
Pretty sad to see where Konami and Sony are compared to Capcom and Square Enix which have been in decline for years.
Well to be honest there aren't many big japanese publishers left to be compared to. Most of them either merged or went defunct. - Square Enix - Koei Tecmo - SEGA (Atlus) - Sony (Studio Japan & Polyphony Digital) - Nintendo - Konami - Capcom - Bandai Namco Those are pretty much the big ones. You do got the medium sized to small ones still left like Platinum Games, Ark System Works, Tango Gameworks, NIS, Kadokawa (From Software), Level-5, Nihon Falcom, etc...
Sony sure ... Konami barely makes anything though so their rank is OK with me.
It's sad to see Sony creating video games that will speak to a wide democratic and not branch off with their Japanese studios to do something that will not only appeal to the Western audience.
Besides MGS what does Konami have to brag about? Both Capcom and Square offer better and more games. FFXIV alone is better than anything Konami has released since MGS4, 6 years ago.
Sony should make games for young gamers too.
interesting idea but would appealing to a wider demographic have any impact on their core following?
Little Big Planet, Mod Nation Racers, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Playstation All Stars, etc etc etc
thats all they've been doing miyamotot *facepalm*
Miyamoto Musashi is a Japanese swordsman not a game maker, FYI *facepalm* You are exposed https://www.youtube.com/wat...
1 vote, 2 votes... How can this prove something? Very small numbers.
lol pretty bad poll, less than 60 votes.
Squeenix and Capcom being so high is proof of how incredibly gullible Japanese gamers are to the hype machines and how much they relax their standards of what good games are based on getting catered to in terms of fanboyism. Nintendo does deserve the top spot, though.
"gullible" seems a bit harsh. How about we look at it as the JP culture has a different appeal towards the games and companies than other territories. There is no right or wrong answer. Its all appeal and personal preference.
There is no objective standard by which Final Fantasy 13 is good. The Japanese like it completely based on fanboy catering. The game is just a salad of cheap anime cliches and nonsensical story masquerading as deep and the Japanese fanboys eat it up. That fanboy catering is also the reason a character as thoroughly, reprehensibly sexist as Quiet in Metal Gear Solid 5 could exist.
As i said DVA...their appeal is much different than the other territories. What works for us does not mean it works for them. And the same goes the other way. This poll was not presented to us so it's okay to let it be.
