Tons of New FFXV Details On Battle, Combat System, Open World Thanks To PS4/Xbox One Power And More

An anonymous Famitsu Employee has posted a full-fledge summary of Famitsu Interview with Final Fantasy XV Game Director Hajime Tabata. The interview is pretty interesting as Tabata talked on numerous topics related to Final Fantasy XV such as "demo length, incredible surprises, combat system, PS4/Xbox One power" and many more things.

The story is too old to be commented.

"friendship" and "the journey"

So similar to FFVIII then? That game was basically about Squalls journey and his would be friends who joined him, his journey changed him from a selfish, lonely jerk to a brave heroic leader by the end.

Godmars2901460d ago

Really messed up the concept of time travel and time paradoxes though.

Army_of_Darkness1460d ago (Edited 1460d ago )

Thanks to the power of ps4 and xbone?? Isn't almost every final Fantasy game back in the days "open world"?? Cause I'm pretty certain that I did a lot of side quest during most jrpg's I've played like ni no kuni

In ff8... I'm very disappointed in myself for not being able to beat that Ultima weapon... Damn he was ridiculously powerful...

iamtehpwn1460d ago

@Army_of_Darkness
Past FF's were very open and had massive worlds but no one would really call them 'Open world' games per-say. FFXV has been designed from the ground up with an open world mind, just judging by the TGS trailer, you get a huge vibe of just how impressive (size wise) the world is.

-Foxtrot1460d ago

How so? I mean the only paradox in the game was the fact they could of destroy Dr Odine's Junction Machine Ellone to stop Ultimecia, but then again most time travel stories have some flaw in them

My only problem with the story is the fact that they didn't go through with the "Rinoa is Ultimecia" theory. I mean it makes a fantastic twist and it could easily lead onto a sequel with Squall trying to stop her turning into Ultimecia. They've dealt with time travel why not alternative timelines, that always is the solution to paradoxes, the multi verse theory

El_Assenso1459d ago

No mention of towns, exploration, world map......maybe its in the game but these two things are huge.

FullmetalRoyale1459d ago

Which two of those things are huge?

If it is open world, that would be the world map. Also I doubt exploration isn't a part of the open world, or else what would be the point?

Godmars2901459d ago

The fact that FF8's whole plot revolved around a time-loop with no beginning.

dasbeer881459d ago

I'm curious if FF15 can change JRPGs like how The Witcher 2 changed RPG genre altogether.

I'm so conflicted on this game. I'm still really excited, but here is what makes me worry/mad.

- The weapon system in the game is treated like a deck. You set weapons on the deck in the menu, and during combat the most appropriate weapon in the deck will be used based on the situation.

- The evasion in the game is executed by "defensive movement" which is a stance the player goes into when holding down the defense button. This allows the player to move around defensively avoiding attacks.

No!!! Making actions automatic like weapon switching and party actions is just beyond dumb. Speaking of party...

- There are no menu commands in combat. It controls like an action game where players switch between offense and defense. You can only control Noctis.

Forgivable if there is enough depth to Noctis. But still why? Coming from the director of Type-0 nonetheless. A game with 14 playable characters.

- The party is still male characters only, Tabata

No Stella/Luna? :(

I really hope the demo changes my mind because all combat and party news we have been getting saddens me greatly.

-Foxtrot1460d ago

Hmmmm...those points do make me less excited for it.

No females for the party, what kind of nonsense is that

Why is the weapons automatic aswell, isn't the whole point of these kind of games is to choose the best weapon for each enemy, it gives the game some strategy.

Plus we can only control Noctis, that's a joke right? I'm pretty sure years back we were shown that we could play other characters because I remember the camera switching to the blonde guy with the gun and him shooting enemies in game.

From the sounds of it a game like Ni No Kuni has more strategy then this

Double_Oh_Snap1460d ago

The game we were hyped for since 2006 Versus is obviously not completely XV. All the stuff I said is confirmed by Tabata himself.

Just pray with me... If all this bs is still true by the time we play the demo. That Square takes feedback seriously and makes the right changes.

After all this time it can't end like this.

Godmars2901460d ago (Edited 1460d ago )

"isn't the whole point of these kind of games is to choose the best weapon"

Did you not play FF13? Honestly, how important was weapon selection/type then?

Hell. If airships are nothing more than combat stages rather than a travel mode...yeah, that's going to be it between me and Square.

ion6661459d ago

I remember final fantsy games as you looking for new team mates. So I'm optimistic about girls being in the party.

Pozzle1460d ago

I'm still excited for the game, but I'm a little worried about only controlling Noctis. I hope this isn't another case of "if the main character dies, it's an automatic Game Over".

AsheXII1460d ago

I don't know where you got the "only play as Noctis" bit, its not in the article or any other information ive seen,.

Zsana_chann1459d ago (Edited 1459d ago )

You can only control Noctis.?? For real? :O
this cant be true...guys I`m speechless, Square Enix..come one, dont do this to your fans.

Irishguy951459d ago (Edited 1459d ago )

Only Noctis?? Where? As far as I remember you can switch between all characters on the fly. Since the 2010 trailer, last years E3 one too. THeres no indication that has changed? Or can you find a direct quote for me? Also @ above, there is open world and exploration they're in teh interview and many others.

Also, i'm a bit confused about the auto dodging and auto weapon switch too, while the weapon switch was originally intended for Versus, last year Nomura said now you cycle them yourself, guess they switched back. I'm glad the warping is better now though. Auto dodging I don't like but eh, arkham city and asylum did that well it looks the same in FFXV. Still prefer manual dodging and always will though

@ Spenok...30 mins = 30 in game days = 15 real hours. Theres 60 mins in an hour not 30...

Double_Oh_Snap1459d ago (Edited 1459d ago )

Here you go I'm not just making stuff up. I have been hyped for XV for years and want it to be great.

These two points annoy the living hell out of me. I'd actually like to battle with the weapons I prefer, or enjoy the most. Instead I am being restricted on how I want to play. Second of all, holding down a button to attack and dodging is complete nonsense, I hope they fix this, or it will actually be hold x to win. My hype is still real, but this is disappointing.

Inception1460d ago

- Party is male only?
- Noctis is the only playable character?
- Eksploration only with car or foot?

Maybe those are demo only but now i got more cautious, especially after the game only 50-60% complete (after 8 f*kin years) and Nomura leaving the project.

jambola1460d ago

A few people mentioned noctis as the only playable character, where is this coming from?

Inception1460d ago

"There are no menu commands in combat. It controls like an action game where players switch between offense and defense. You can only control Noctis, but you can give orders to other party members. And there are menus to give commands to everyone, swap out weapons, etc."

I read that on gematsu
http://gematsu.com/2014/09/...

jambola1460d ago

weird how one article would have that in but not the other one.

Pozzle1460d ago

Wow. I must be out of the loop. I had no idea that Nomura had left the project. When did that happen?

jambola1460d ago

2 years ago apparently

-Foxtrot1460d ago

The guy who did the handheld games has taken over

It's a little scary because I mean you are replacing someone like Nomura with someone who is less known and has never done a main FF game before, only handhelds.

It's like replacing Kojima in MGS with an unknown director

NyanCat1460d ago

I'm excited to see more gameplay. Open world has been amazing in some of the past FF games, but I've heard/seen people complain about the draw distance in some of the footage that has been released.

BassMan1251460d ago

No discussion at all about basic RPG elements like towns, world map. I think they forgot that Final Fantasy supposed to be an RPG game. Everything is about combat and combat.

Inception1460d ago (Edited 1460d ago )

"like towns, world map"

This

Looks like all journalist who visited TGS forget to ask SE about this thing because all they seem only cared with graphics or combat. Although, we still didn't know about summons and limit break.

But i seriously want to know if we can visit towns and interact with NPC's like buying potion, buying / upgrading weapons & armor, side-quest, mini-games, rent chocobos, etc.
