Every industry has their missteps. Gaming has a lot of them.
For an addon, the Kinect 1.0 sold over 24 million units....how thats considered a failure is beyond me.
I spent £150 on one at launch, 6 months later, i put it in a cupboard because we were decorating the house, i never bothered to set it back up again after that, nothing shouted at me game wise to ever get it out again. To me, that is a failure.
It's the same if you think that a playstation dualshock3 sell 180 million units And for this reason have won a console war. Kinect sell more than 20 million units just because Microsoft included it in xbpz package but the story teach you that kinect is absolutely useless .. Version 2 also.
i dont know why Sony does not throw some money (only some)at Capcom to release a MOn HUN game (canon numbered) for Vita ...its just so simple and effective ..even a collection of previous titles will sell... all Vita owners will buy it with out second thought and will enjoy it at maximum as Vita its like has been specifically made for this game
Eh, I'm kind if over MH. There are better games than it now. They missed the window of opportunity which was launch ish to 2013
Look at that Virtual boy VR headset, it was a surely failed back in the day, I remember that.
Bit harsh on the Vita, hasn't it seen a 25% rise in sales recently?
I spent 250$ on one at launch, 6 months later, i put it in a drawer because I was cleaning my room, i never bothered to set it back up again after that, nothing shouted at me game wise to ever get it out again. To me, that is a failure.
Deja Vu? Must be a troll
Yeah I bit harsh. The writer did mention something about the sales. I think its more of a failure due to a lack of new vita releases. Going to some of the local game/electronic stores around my neck of the woods and they all have had the same 15-20 or so games for the past two years. Nothing new that isn't a digital game.
It is kinda sad seeing the vita game selection in some stores, which is maybe what turns people off but if you go on psn it has loads of great games and the fact it has psp and psone games to just makes it even better. I think i have more vita games on my memory card than my local Game does.
I picked up a kinect pre-owned and it was pretty cheap, i def got my monies worth with forza horizon, skyrim and rise of nightmares. I thought itd been pretty useful in gtaV, switching weapons, using the cell, switching characters and using the map. The saturn was great too, loved all the sega arcade ports :)
E.T. didn't crash the industry. E.T. was the symptom of the crash. The narrative that people bought a game so bad that they stopped buying videogames only works if people had actually bought the game. They didn't buy it in the first place! Most of the ET carts produced were never sold at all and that's why they needed a landfill! But if you want to blame the crash on a single game, then try 2600 Pacman. That came out before E.T. and people bought it in droves. It was truly awful. Pacman is what started the early 80s videogame craze. A home version of Pacman is what people were waiting for. So it makes sense that a truly bad home version would deflate the video-game bubble the original created!
