Nearly every game we hear about nowadays can be described by a genre. Even experimental games can often find their roots, or some way to relate to their audience, in a pre-existing genre. So what do you do when you have a game that cannot be fit into any of the existing categories? How do you explain what the game is to your audience? How do they relate to the product you have created if they don’t have a point of reference to pull from?
These are the challenges faced by Robin Arnott, the developer behind the experimental indie title SoundSelf. How does he overcome these challenges? What exactly is SoundSelf? We had a chance to sit down and talk to him about the project and what it’s like pioneering this seemingly non-existent genre of video game.
