Is Destiny in need of post-release modifications to get it back on track and make it the game that everyone was hoping it would be?
Didn't it sell 5 million copies in 24 hours? The game is already the most successful new IP ever. This is one of those games that didn't need early reviews as it will grow and improve with the community. As much as Bungie denied it being a MMO, a MMO is what it is. Can't imagine what kind of sad person with no opinion of their own would trade the game in based on bad critic reviews. If you're enjoying the game, that's what matters.
It's not even "bad critic reviews". Only a handful of sources have given it a sub-70 score. The rest of them are 70 upwards with plenty of 80s and a few 90s. The game has quality, but certain people here are convinced it's a dud or a bad game because of the controversy of a 6/10. Not saying it's absolutely a great game as people are allowed to think it's average, but it's not a bad game in the slightest. It's a solid game. Destiny is every success it needs to be and Bungie obviously have all the information they need from the community to improve the game over the next few months to years.
Spot on man! Great comment. Thanks for posting this!
I agree ,spot on dude . Nice to see you have a mind of your own .
If ot changes dramatically, I'm out. I frigging love it. As with any mmo I love, all I want is more of what they've already given us. More strikes, more loot and more customization...but not yet....cuz i wanna get to 30, raid and level another character and do some PvP. Then, more content. If they want, add 30 minutes of cutscenes, but when I level my hunter, off an option to skip them, b/c I will.
And they also said its passed 500 million dollars in sales. Thats success.
I don't think it needs to change drastically but rather expand upon what has already been set in place. The story fleshed out, the enemies varied along with the locales. I think that is the main thing with perhaps a few more maps ( maybe a game mode or two? ) for crucible.
yea and offer an open world mmo like they had set it out to be when they announced it.
This and let me fly my damn ship manually with or against friends. Those ships are too sweet to be used for only a loading sequence.
Seriously, I wouldn't doubt if future patches have space combat. There may also be speeder races. It's an mmo, the possibilities r endless for us, if we don't quit at level 12.
I would not mind that at all. Also I would love to race some friends on the speeders. Being on that reminded me of Pod Racing for some reason.
It will. It's an mmo and they have said themselves that they are pacing content and not throwing everything at us at once.
Yeah I know most MMOs don't throw the whole kitchen sink in at once, but doesn't seem like there is a whole lot from the beginning. It seems to be shaping up nicely though.
I think the game is great, and I am sure since Bungie have a 10 year plan for destiny that there will be plenty of updates to the game to keep it going, some of them inspired by the community. As far as enjoyment it is one of the best games of the year.
I can see it now... An Universe Reborn: Destiny
It is successful. Idiot.
If bungie are expecting plenty of people to be playing the game in 12 months let alone ten years, it needs a lot of change imho. I'm enjoying farming stuff at the moment but there is only so much farming people will take before they will question whether or not it's worth it. If bungie want people to keep coming back for more and to enjoy a long healthy lifespan, they are going to have to think up of more creative ways for people to earn things. Personally I'm having an absolute blast right now and can't get enough of it however myself and most of my friends are pretty much all in agreement, if we didn't have each other to play with, we'd have quit the game by now because grinding solo is extremely dull.
It's the launch of an mmo. Take FF14 for example. It released 1 yr ago and already has 5 x the content and is gonna double w new expansion. Mmo's have to pace content b/c of the gap in player commitment.
I don't think Destiny is terrific, but it is good. It is far from trash as some would have you believe. I keep coming back to it which says something. I found the story to be dullsville, but since I hit 20 and started earning light based gear I am enjoying it much more than I was. It felt like a chore getting to 20. It needs improvement in a lot of areas though. The Grimoire system is the biggest misstep for me. Destiny really really needs a codex which is accessible from the menu. Something like Mass Effect's where it is voiced. I would love to hear Fillion and Nighy telling me about this universe. Instead it feels devoid of personality. And I never thought I would say this, but if it wants to tell a story, add some more cutscenes. There was clearly a story here but Destiny does its best to not shed any light on it and I can't help but feel the wealth of voice talent is hugely wasted here.
To me it's a chore once you hit level 20.
It feels more like an MMO to me beyond level 20. Maybe that is why I like it. Up until then it just felt like it was trying to be a more serious Borderlands clone with significantly less charm. I don't think it did it well. However grinding for light based loot with my friends feels great. It is something I am familiar with and besides some issues with the loot system being nasty to players, I am having a blast. I grew into Destiny. My first impressions were not great. I can understand the 6 out of 10's. However, I am starting to understand what Bungie was going for now. If only they had hinted at it earlier. Or if not, added a more compelling and well told story and added some character to the damn game. It feels so sterile. And there are so many easy fixes to that. I'd love to be able to have an actual conversation with the inhabitants of the tower for example. That would be a great way to to give some story and lore. I mean seriously, what the hell is The Traveller?!!!
Agreed. Not putting the lore in the actual effing game was a HUGE mistake.
Better missions, something other than fighting waves upon waves of enemies, more story missions would help Destiny a lot. If they continue the way they're going though a lot of people will be ditching this game and moving on to something else.
Ya it needs a narrative.
They need a variety of missions... like....i dont know escorting an npc or something. im loving the game and havent tried the raid. But i have faith Bungie will mix it up.
