Have you noticed that Bungie’s Destiny doesn’t seem quite right? Well, come in to video game design 101, and lets take a look at how Destiny doesn’t make the grade.
you can see the nitpicking degree when he writes a wall of text complaining about the selection cursor, not realizing it's a quick way to chose options directly and helps avoid scrolling through menus.
It's not quick. It may be stylish, unique etc. but quick is something it is not. The selection process on the game takes much longer than needed and the loading times, besides being huge, are often there without any necessity.
the loading screens really steam my clams
Ha, play Diablo 3 with 60 items in your inventory and then tell me Destiny's menu system is not quick. The menu is great, I think it's truly nitpicking at the point where you're going to criticize even the games(perfectly functional) menu. Hell, Polygon even wrote an article recently about how good the menu is.
How do people like this even have fun playing games? He's focused on a cursor for crying out loud? Its simply to navigate a menu. Its not like you're moving a cursor to fire at enemy's. What happened to gamers, seriously. Let's overanalyze a small detail instead of having fun, who ch is exactly what this game is. Fun. Period.
The only complaint i have with destiny so far is that i want more kinds of dudes to kill - seems a little repetitive so far (that being said im only level 7)
Great article. Sums up the most huge and incredible flaws on Destiny. I'd just add two cents: 0.01. It is very, very rare, but some weapons do offer nice upgrades. Burst rifle turned into auto fire, ultra fast ADS stuff like that. Not groundbreaking, I know, but there's a MP balance to think behind it as well... 0.02. I like the game. A good game, not more than that, but still good. One thing I love to death, though, is equipment having their own skill trees. Damn, this is something that other games HAVE to copy!
This guy nitpicks to much.....going on about the menu cursor? what.... I think the perfect review is honestly the giant bomb review, sums the game up perfectly for me. http://www.giantbomb.com/re...
The top comment resonates with me; "I see a lot of people giving it 3/5's and it's completely understandable. However the game sucked me in and I couldn't stop playing it. It just feels super weird for a game that I think is also a 3/5 which holds me so firmly."
While I agree with most of the complaints against Destiny, very few seem to stick enough to keep me from enjoying the game. I simply like it too much. With far too many games, I find I fall victim to early reviews and impressions that shed light on flaws that I never recover from knowing. Often I read/hear about a complaint and it carries with me for the rest of my play-through. Not with Destiny. While I don't denounce the complaints, as I agree with nearly every one I've read, with Destiny I find it easier to write them off. See you in the stars Guardians ;)
Everything I have read says the mechanics are top notch. The issue most people have is that its MMO aspect is just a souless, storyless hub for small team competitive multiplayer FPS. Like DOTA. Your character really doesn't exist in between missions - except unlike DOTA you do keep SOME bonuses the more time you put in.
I give the article a 1.5 out of 5, and Destiny a solid 4.
It's not that it's bad. It's just that ,coming from Bungie, we expected so much more than what we got.
what bad game design? Destiny has many problems, but gameplay (gunplay) isn't one of them
Most of this year's best reviewed games have no story. Just sayin.
"Destiny gets bogged down with unnecessary menus that make moving between areas a huge chore." Is this a parody or is the author being serious? It's very easy to select where you want to go and for friends to drop in and drop out. If you think Destiny's menus are too complicated, maybe you should just give up on games and play with bubble wrap in the corner instead. Games might be a little too much for you to grasp. And the levels have a longer than average loading time because the maps are huge. It seems like this should be obvious. Only time will tell how Destiny will develop. The people assuming that you'll be able to see all this from playing it for a few days are missing the boat a bit. If Bungie handles this game properly, they'll continue to expand and improve it over time. There is a lot of potential for Raids and additional modes, features, and improvements. If they keep adding improvements and content for a reasonable price and support the game, it could be quite good long-term.
Thats what people don't seem to get about the loading time. The maps are gigantic and the game never pauses to load while your in the game. Thats where the loading time is people. Not only that, but its only about a minute. It isn't even enough time to go take a leak. Trust me, I've tried.
The Darkness aka Bad. The Traveler aka The Light aka good The Guardian aka guards stuff. The Fallen aka once had not fallen but now it has If everyone is a Legend then now one is Is their target demo a bunch of 7 year olds?
