Destiny is a great shooter, if that’s all you’re there for.
I would say its lack of identity is it's biggest weakness.
Isn't that almost the same?
Exactly. It's a damn mmo. I wish Bungie had simply embraced that...and adding 30 min of stupid cut scenes woulda satisfied so many ppl who just wanted a single playthrough. But give it time. They r not done and now they have to b an mmo, so it will evolve and mature and as we voice r opinions, it will get better. I am not giving up on an mmo this good already. It's core mechanics are superb.
Why exactly do you think, that it's an MMO? There's nothing massive about the game, since at max you can meet about 5 - 10 people at any given time. Even Bungie didn't call it that, because it's just another Multiplayer game with a few lobbies.
Destiny its just a game....
Paying 60 bucks for a product kinda raises customer's expectations a bit and that's' not including the monster known as hype. Crazy, I know.......
Really? What game do we pay $60 for that has more content or that doesn't rely on 10 mp maps for replayability? Seriously, a few epic cut scenes and we wouldn't b having this conversation.
Joab777@ I can name a bunch of games that are way better then Destiny that have more content. Both Metro games are better, League of Legends, All mass effect games are better Uncharted, Far Cry 3. And that is just a very few. Destiny has absolutely no story, not audio logs, no written tableture through out the game, no characters through out the game and is extremely lacking in the mmo parts. You face nearly the same enemy's through out the hole game. The mission are exactly the same "Get me to this terminal so I can scan for fallen" Side missions send you back to the same place as the story missions and are the exact same formual as the story missions (waves of enemy's spawning) The hole game is mediocre at best. The multilayer is broken, unbalanced, with mediocre level design and few horrible maps. 6V6 really not pushing any boundaries there. There are only two vehicles that you can mess around with. The powers are a joke and the hole thing feels rushed. Not to mention they said plenty of times how big and expansive this game was going to be. They shot themselves in the foot with that. So if you could come up with a counter argue that has even half of pros to my cons then be my guest but I doubt you could, as this game is not that great and there isn't to many great things about it.
Destiny is a great game. They just need to make sure they iron out and show a great story. My only gripe is I wish it had a great sound track. Its good but not great though there are epice highlights.
What!?!?!?!? The soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard. I actually noticed the soundtrack in this game which is something I rarely notice. Bungie has done an amazing job with Destiny from, top to bottom
what??? This is Marty! every sound in the game gave me goosebumps, I have no idea how you dislike the soundtrack, it's magical!!
Lack of deep immersive story, Level are played out in a repetitive manner. Another annoyance, weak predictable AI. The voice acting is very forgettable. For such a polished game, it feels unfinished.
I wouldn't say "Lack of deep story" because I don't think anyone who read into what this game was gonna be ever expected it to have a deep and engaging storyline. I think what fails about it though is that it tries to have a story but it's just way too banal and there's no characterization to even a big character like Ghost. I didn't expect it to have likable characters but it definitely seemed like that's what it was going for so it's really puzzling how simple and lackluster the writing is. I didn't think this game really needed a deep story. It just didn't need to indulge us so much in its cutscenes and exposition if it didn't really have a story to tell.
Try the heroic weekly strikes and you will be eating those words about weak AI.
@Linkenski. They said plenty of times there would be a deep story. Point set and match, read the back of the box for one example. "Rich cinematic storytelling set in huge worlds to explore. Not to mention countless times they said the exact same thing for the past 2 years.
Maybe because it isn't finished. Bungie has a 10 year plan for this game.
I never played Destiny so i can't say anything about it, but i want to see Bungie to work on another projects, not just sci-fi shooters, the studio is amazing. Probably we will have sequels or dlcs for Destiny though.
need an epic halo 1 like campaign and story
That's what I was expecting from Bungie; a really entertaining story. I just beat it a few minutes ago and I was severely disappointed. My god, I've never been so let down story-wise by a game before. There was nothing memorable about it. The characters were few and were hardly two-dimensional let alone three-dimensional. Backstory was nonexistent, they never explain WTF the Traveler is or what the Darkness is or how they function, no explanation for the weird looking humans or the Exo people, no build-up to the finale (then again it's kind of difficult to build up from nothing), and there was no feeling of "I MUST SAVE TEH HOOMAN RAYC" or any motivating factor to beat the game... I could go on for days. Don't get me wrong though; the game is fun. The gunplay is really enjoyable and it's a blast to play with friends. It's just the utter lack of story that left such a sour taste in my mouth. I never expected Bungie, the creators of one of the most engrossing stories in gaming (Halo), to fail so hard on that front. I mean, damn. Were they even trying? /rant
you all must be on some good stuff, cause this is a great fun game, man most people opinions now a days are weird, like their aliens or something lol
That's why you only have one bubble.
I am thinking the budget was 90% for marketing and 10% for development just a vehicle for lots of future DLC.
No, they spent lots of money on the music soundtracks. Out of all thw things I've noticed from my buddies gameplay vids. The music was damn good. Everything else seemed like lv1 borderlands loot. Good lighting though.
The game is fun, PvP is a much better experience (though lacks playlists) and getting better gear is exciting (but for how long?), however the game has an awful story all around. It is like they decided cutscenes and actual dialogues are a bad thing. The characters are pretty much nonexistent and I still do not know anything about the universe of Destiny. It honestly blows my mind these are the same people who made Halo. The story was about as exciting as Titanfalls lol
If Destiny had competent writers and about 40 mins worth of high quality cut-scenes (like the intro), then it would have been a much better experience, imo. There are other problems, sure, but the terrible story presentation just feels pathetic coming from the same people that created the Halo series. Something else this game could have benefited from is to make the hub world more lively...that place just seems like a big ass interactive menu.
Yeah, the presentation and atmosphere is lacking. Sometimes it can feel a little barren and hollow. For example, aside from the Speaker, I cannot recall the name of a single NPC in the Tower. I refer to thr NPCs in the nature of "the gunsmith" or "the decrypter". Now, besides all that (too much negativity these days), I am still having lots of fun simply playing the game and not rushing through it.
I think the Queen even it going to be telling about how the intend to keep the game alive long-run. If they can add episodic story content, that fills in more of the back-stories, that would be great. The story so-far for me feels like a prologue or introduction. You spend just enough time on a planet or fighting an enemy to get to know them, and then your off to the next world.
