This article discusses the benefits of a Gay Character coming to a video game.
Benefits? For another paper thin character? How about we discuss the benefits of making a good game instead? EA always gets away with shafting gamers and uses this nonsense as a scape goat to attack/insult their critics i.e. Mass Effect 3. And guess what this is supporting it. The Witcher 2 had gay characters in it but it wasn't flying a stupid flag around screaming social justice so I guess they won't get countless articles written about it.
Exactly how i feel . They need to stop .
After "gamergate" we have to insist that politics be kept out of gaming altogether, much like the "No politics in sport" idea. If SJW's want to play their crappy games in a corner of the internet they're welcome to it, the rest of us real gamers will get along fine, like we always have.
Couldn't agree more with all three of you guys. Having homosexual/transsexual characters in games are fine. But when you're doing it just to pull in SJW support, and don't give a sh*t about making those characters relevant or interesting in any shape or form, you are insulting both the people who bought the game and the actual crowd you're trying to pander to.
Yeah they need to work on character development for better characters and better games before they start talking of benefits to adding gay or transsexuals in game. What they need to do and it's not just in games, but everywhere is stop blasting gay propaganda everywhere. I don't have an issue with anyone, but I do have an issue with it being constantly pushed in my face. Cool your gay, I don't care and I don't need you to announce it everywhere. I don't go around pushing my straightness in your face so please show me and the rest of us the same respect.
That's how I feel, and I'm gay. Why can't we just enjoy games without all of this political nonsense?
I have to disagree. It like you didn't read the article. Is really short btw. This article isn't screaming for social justice. It is only acknowledging the fact that a sinle gay character exists in one game and that it may be a sign that games are becoming more mature in there inclusion of others. Thats it. Who is this comment in response to? Because its not this article.
There have been many gay characters in past games or movies. I just wish ppl would give this a rest already, but these articles keep making a big fuss about something thats supposed to be (and thankfully is) the norm in their eyes. Which I tink is ironic, cause no one is saying they dont want gay characters in games. Most ppl like me are just fed up with articles like these hammering on a non-existing ''problem''
lame developers ...boycott now...i like the way Kojima (or generally the Japanese devs) presents people with special sexuality...they re not completely gay or straight but have traits from both of them (Raikov ,Raiden, Vamp)and giving the option to the player to believe whatever he /she likes ...to promote and wave such flags about your game and forcing to accept characters with these features is completely lame and stupid ...and show that the developers are completely clueless about gaming
They aren't clueless this is politics all the way. With the pollution in SimCity and the Evil racist Tea Party in BF" Hardline its a liberal agenda. EA has got all angles of it covered in their "games"
Who cares just make the game good, that's what lots of gamers want a good game. Lots of gamers do not care if there's gay, straight,bi, female, black, white, asian, etc in the game. All that matters is the game is good and the characters are intriguing and not boring and stale.
It's not like there's a shortage of shitty dating sims available on Steam and The Sims 4 is on the way, people who want to play fantasy same sex couples instead of fantasy wizards and warriors can make their own arrangements, they will be bobbling around on near empty servers if there's any justice in the world.
Disgusting, i'm not talking about being gay, i'm talking about bioware.
Yeah, I'm SOOOO glad that relationships and making political statements are more important that the story and gameplay... Whatever happened to the Bioware we use to know.
The founders left the industry. One Dr. has an investment firm and a World Series of Poker player, while the other one is doing craft beer making I think... I don't remember it was back in 2012ish when they left. They both made statements saying they were out of the industry.
Ea bought them. Same as Maxis and every other studio. Ea owns them they are no longer independent.
Please elaborate why this is disguisting?
Can you read?
1: Children are too young to play Bioware games, and the article claims that "educating" them is a good thing 2: I don't have a problem with gay people. I have a couple of gay friends and they're just normal people. By making a big deal out of it, to those of us who already fully accept it, it makes. Bioware look childish and stupid, like atheism+ (Btw I'm an atheist...I've just got over myself). 3: LGBT people make up 5-7% of the population. If you don't believe me, look it up: the ancient "Kinsey Report" which claimed 20% has long been refuted by multiple modern studies with superior methodology. So in having 25% of your companions full homosexual (so not bi), Bioware are naturally pushing the message that "there should be more LGBT people in society" which is a disgusting moral position to take, no better than arguing there should be less. 4: Straight male gamers get 2 options (and most people play their own gender, as they can relate better on an emotive level to the romance; I mean a straight romance isn't going to do much for an LGBT person, who would accept it, but not fully understand i [if they did, they'd be heterosexual] Same applies here). LGBT people (perhaps 10% of the players at most?) get 4. There is no way to argue that it is fair to give 10% of the players twice as many options as 70% of the players. 5: Games are not a tool to be used in social moral "re-education". We all have different beliefs, and they're all equally valid. Besides, this always fails, and generally ends ul creating more hatred than it seeks to resolve. Far better they encourage critical thought by presenting strong arguments (even devil's advocate arguments) and let you make your own mind up. The superior idea will, in the long run, always win out by its very nature, no matter how hard the contrary is argued for.
LGBTI people are actually only about 2.6% of the population combined according to the most recent studies, Kinsey's work has long been discredited and his findings can't be reproduced.
Except it's the journalists making a big f'ing deal about it and bioware has only "offecially" mentioned it twice. Tell the media to stop fussing, not bioware.
