Ars Technica reports: As we've discussed a number of times, the human brain is superb at image analysis, and computers come nowhere close to matching it. A pair of computer scientists have now attempted to get a computer to act more like a brain, using a huge library of images to help the computer identify when a scene is similar to one it's already aware of. To apply this to location identification, the researchers turned to a large, public source of images with assigned geospatial coordinates: Flickr.
