Dragon Quest XI in development alongside Dragon Quest: Heroes

"Famitsu this week features an interview with Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii, offering new details on Square Enix and Koei Tecmo’s action RPG collaboration Dragon Quest: Heroes.

According to Horii, right around the time it became clear that he wanted to create an action-based Dragon Quest, he was contacted by Koei Tecmo, and thus asked them to make it.

Finally, Horii said that the next numbered entry—Dragon Quest XI—is currently also in development, but first, Square Enix wants you to play Heroes to build up excitement."

The story is too old to be commented.

Wonder if it will be a PS4 exclusive...I wouldn't want it on both the Wii U and the PS4 to see it being held back

PS confirmed? I hope so!

*Enix always chose the platform with the most installed base when it comes to Dragon's Quest main series.

*Look at NES, SNES, PS One, PS2, Wii as proof.

*But it sure is nice for Enix to show PS3 some Dragon's Quest love. More life to my PS3!

*PlayStation is really awesome!

Can't wait for the PS3 and PS4 Dragon's Quest.

That's just plain stupid. The PS360 were capable of producing some mighty fine looking games and the WiiU is more powerful than either of them. PC ports of those PS360 titles ran great unless the devs shortchanged the process. I have 2 gaming rigs and both can play the same software, just at different settings. See what I'm getting at, the gap is more narrow between the WiiU and the PS4 then what it was last gen with PC and the HD twins. The gap in power between my two rigs is even greater than current gen yet everything plays great.

You should try to look at the potential positives. If Japanese 3rd parties started acting like 3rd parties, we might get more IPs coming over. They make their money back in Japan and only need to sell 500k to cover the cost of localization. It might also help stop the gradual erosion of the Japanese console market (6th gen - 32mil, 7th - 25mil, 8th - ?).

How is it stupid to want a game to take advantage of what a console is capable of.

I don't know about you but I'd like to see what they could do taking full advantage of the PS4.

Dragon Quest 11 is my most wanted and anticipated game overall on any console or platform..

Even more than Destiny, or Xenoblade, or Halo 5, or Smash Brothers, or Legend of Zelda..or ect....

* I'd personally like to see:

* Dragon Quest 11 = 3DS
* Dragon Quest 12 = PS4/XB1/Wii U

Maybe they will do DQ 11 for console and DQ 12 for handheld though.

I have a ps4 and Wii U, I want it on my Wii U though!!! By the look of the japanese market though, Wii U is a hot item over there and Dragon Quest is huge in Japan, that is one of the main reason they are scared to localize it to begin with still with that said I just read three articles before this one and I thought they already said ps4 and ps3

I assume DQ XI will be on Wii U. If Japanese sales are to be our guide like they have been for the past main games.

I do think 3DS is not done receiving DQ support either.

Jurat1533d ago

The west is still waiting for a taste of DQX on Wii U; that console is crying out for a MMORPG

VsAssassin1533d ago

Let's see: The devs said that they want this game on a console, not a handheld. The Wii-U doesn't have enough units worldwide, the Xboxone (in Japan) is out of the question, while the PS4 is yet to reach 1 million units in Japan, but has about 10+ million units all over the world.

So the question is, if you were the head of the business department at SE, which of the three consoles would you rather release DQXI on?

I choose the PS4.

Concertoine1532d ago

Depends on how the PS4 is doing by then.

In the forseeable future the Wii U will hold its position since it has a lot more japanese games this year.

JSDude11532d ago

I'd chose both WiiU and PS4 as both Sony and Nintendo (especially in JP, but also in the west to a less degree) have DQ fans.

It's not like DQ XI will be a graphical powerhouse (cell shading isn't that complicated) so it ~would~ probably be a able to run fine on both. That way you sell more units, no need for console exclusives in this day unless you have a game that can't be converted from one console to another easily.

theizzzeee1532d ago (Edited 1532d ago )

Dragon Quest X is on the Wii U in Japan, the touchscreen of the gamepad is ideal for an RPG and the Wii U is selling better than the PS4 in Japan why wouldn't it be on the Wii U???

Sly-Lupin1532d ago

Worldwide sales are irrelevant: Square Enix gave up on selling Dragon Quest overseas years ago. The best the Western market can hope for if a half as see mobile port 15 years later.

Man must be hard for SE to choose between PS4 or 3DS. Safe bet is 3DS and reap reward or risk is PS4 and revive the console market in Japan. DQ Heroes coming to PS3/PS4 maybe an indicator
