Great figures show that Sony's investment in making a gamer-centric system paid off. To be honest I'm kinda surprsised it has done nearly Wii like numbers because the Wii was a phenomenon that was featured on just about every regular news and breakfast programme in the UK. So it demonstrates the PS4's success comes from a grass roots level.

PlayStation UK boss Jim Ryan has previously said that Sony would have sold a lot more in the launch window if not for stock shortages.

nobody thought the Wii numbers would be repeated, PS4 is going close but with core gamers instead of casuals.

this is great news because having one dominant platform with a huge install base will encourage investment on games because the cost to develop on one platform will be low(especially on the dev friendly PS4), we have already seen this with the large number of announced Japanese games for the PS4.

The 2 places MS dominated last generation were the US and the UK. So MS will not be happy they are losing there main EU territory to Sony.

In comparison the wii also launched at $249 us $150 usd less than the PS4 which plays a major factor in a consumer purchase for a home console, especially when price justification at that time when the PS3 was taking so much heat with it's price point which further helped the numbers of its competitors.

I dont have much spare money but already decided to buy myself PS4 on my birthday (22nd January), by that time PS4 will have very nice library and PS4 gonna cost ~300euro(I live in Latvia and new PS4 here costs 340euro).

Was at the midnight launch. I swear it looked like as if gamestop was giving the PS4 destiny bundles away for free. It had to be about 2:1 picking up the bundle instead of just the game itself.

In a bundle like that Destiny is a pretty big system seller. Plus its a Bungie game and those games tend to sell very well.

Have to say I agree with this, last gen many people were screaming that £40 was too much. PS4/XB1 walks in and charges £45-£50 and everyone just accepts it.

I wouldn't really be bothered if it wasn't for the fact that most console games have generally been £35-£40 since 1990.

I've added to those UK numbers, I'm currently waiting for mine to arrive by DPD but just received a message to say it will arrive between 5 and 7.

So to bide some time I just ordered Diablo III and a wave blue dualshock 4. Looking forward to my first hands on with PS4.

As you know in August it was announced PS4 reached 10 million units.

So as you can see PS4 is around 1-2 million units ahead of the Wii within the same timeframe.

will have to check the veracity of claims later. Too busy right now. If they were truly making Wii numbers; why is Sony's shares labelled as junk status? It seems as if investors aren't convinced by these sales figures. Doubt massive sales will happen in Christmas this year as lbp3 ain't gonna push numbers. Destiny also ain't looking great at the moment and people are feeling a tad short changed.
